Soundwave is invaluable to Megatron's operations on Earth. He is both loyal and obedient. Soundwave is extremely multifaceted in his contributions to the Decepticon cause. He is excellent at infiltration in his tape deck transformation, even going so far as infiltrating Autobot headquarters and retrieving vital information about Earth's resources. He is also excellent at security and surveillance, being able to detect abnormalities due to his heightened sersory abilities. However, his greatest contribution (besides continually making energon cubes) is hosting the Decepticon cassettes. These little transformers make Soundwave potentially a walking mini-army at times. Soundwave himself is very unemotional and logical. It is uncertain as to whether he chooses to be that way, or if he was simply built with a very simple and basic personality component.
In battle, Soundwave is a competent, if not particularly inspired, opponent. His strength is high, and his firepower decent, but he lacks the blood lust that characterizes the best fighters of the Decepticon team. He is much better in espionage and surveillance, being able to monitor Autobot communications and scramble Decepticon communications. Megatron trusts Soundwave more than any other Decepticon under his command on Earth, probably because he realizes that Soundwave does not have the capacity for betrayal in his personality. It also seems that a measure of Soundwave's loyalty to Megatron spills over to his cassettes, since they are all basically quite loyal to the Decepticon leader as well.

Yeah! He had a habit of shrinking down into tape deck size and then allowing people to pick him up and take him into wherever he wanted or needed to be, and then transforming and growing into full size and opening carnage on people. Definitely not a tape deck you would want to pick up in a dark alley!

Hey, Soundwave was a favorite on mine back in the day.
Hey, Jeffy it was fun rooming here but, I think I'd like to find some space of my own. I hope you don't mind. I'll leave my transformers here so we can play every once in awhile.
Anyway, let me collect my things and Bamf outta here. Later.

Laserbeak has one of the highest success records of all the Decepticons. Though he is useful in interrogations, it is in espionage where he really shines. Though Laserbeak is a bit of a coward, his fear of Megatron far outweighs any fear of danger when completing a mission. Laserbeak is intelligent, crafty, and a bit of a bully. Qualities of an ideal Decepticon, to be sure. Laserbeak is by far the very best source of information for Megatron of Autobot activities. As such, he is thought of highly by the Decepticon leader.
In cassette mode, Laserbeak stays in Soundwave's chest compartment until needed. He is the smallest of the Decepticons, which makes him ideal for spying out the Autobots... a job which he does with alacrity and aplomb. Laserbeak has surprisingly high firepower for a Decepticon of his size, a fact many an Autobot has ignored to his regret. He is also more highly maneuverable than any other Decepticon, making him a devilishly hard target to hit. As such, he is often also assigned to special missions where his size, speed, and agility are an asset... extraction of artifacts and humans, for example. Laserbeak's success record speaks for itself. He is one of the most useful Decepticons on Earth, and one of the best to trust with special missions.
