Perhaps the all-new Fiddler and Hornblower can team up with other questionably-named folks and form a Super NC-17 Squad!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I'll never forget Hornblower #50, "To Blow No More" from DC Comic Series that never existed. What a great/heartbreaking issue! Especially the scene at the end with the final blow!

Cobie, what did you think about the controversial issue #69 "The Lowest Blow"?

Posted by MYG 235 - Andy S on :

I thought "The Death of Hornblower Kid" was particularly touching as well as the introduction of Hornblower Lass in "Lo, There Shall Come A Sign"

Unfortunately, the possibility of a Super NC-17 Squad - while fans clamor for it - seems to be lost due to editorial dictatorial direction (apparently they can no longer use anyone associated with Superman, and without Streaky, Beppo, as well as Kandor's Nightwing & Flamebird, what would the Super NC-17 Squad be?)

i did hear the The Secret Society of Super NC-17 was a go -- should be out somewhere around Gay Pride next year

I've been laughing so hard everyone near me is wondering what's going on!

Hornblower Lass is a welcome addition too, Andy!

BJ the Hornblower-Hound is most definately not!

Posted by Portfolio Hawk on :

My fav was issue #23, where our hero goes back in time to teach his younger self all the skills he has learned. "I was a teenage hornblower!" Ah, what a classic.

Posted by MLLASH on :

BWAhahahaha!!!

Posted by MLLASH on :

You guys rule! I want a series proposal for THE HORNBLOWER FAMILY, stat! I want Hornblower, Hornblower Lass, BJ the dog, and a cat, monkey and horse! Plus a plucky girl reporter!

Posted by Portfolio Hawk on :

Ah, but who can forget issue #4, the introduction of Hornblower's arch-nemsis, "Glory Hole!"

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

[LOL] I'm literally crying now! "Glory Hole"!!!!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Plucky Girl Reporter Fay Shell will be a major part of this series. Her relationship with the whole Hornblower family recieve some serious screen time...

My favorite character was Hornblower's aunt Cora Nett. She was not your typical elderly character you see in comics. She added much to the series and when the new creative team wrote her out, I stopped reading the Hornblower for a whole year.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Who could forget when Aunt Cora almost married Hornblower's nemesis Doctor Cockatrice? A classic story (#131-133), despite the cheesiness of the plot.

I don't know why they wrote her out in the first place, especially since Hornblower Lass's boyfriend, Munch, left the series too.

I haven't read the series since the new creative team took over around #90 and tried making the book more "hip"!

Glory Hole as Blowhard? Bah. I wasn't quite thrilled with the developments they made to Hornblower Lass's pet cat Tootsi, revealing her to be a minion of G.H.

He had a pretty good Rouges Gallery too. The Tuba, Mute-Master and Professer Sousaphone - the reverse Hornblower.

I think my favorite run was issues 253-264 where Hornblower gets transported to an alternate dimension and for the whole year the stories feature only the supporting cast trying to find Hornblower and get him back.

I was lad when they got rid of the Golden Bassoon of Xnathia. I felt it was too much of a deus ex machina.

I always considered the reverse Hornblower to be an even better villian than Glory Hole or Doc Cock.

I did like the "Hornblower, Hornblower Lass and Fay in Space" storyline though.

That alien guy Fell was pretty creepy looking! The people of 'A-tio' were a very original idea.

I agree. When it was used to wish away the Symphany of Dimension-X in one panel after 20 pulse pounding pages, I felt very let down. I was kind of hoping Hornblower Lass would be the one to save the day--all she did was get her hair pulled all issue.

there were lots of great Hornblower villains:
Horn-E - the Hornblower of Earth E
King Callous - the evil criminal mastermind
Evil Fang - the twisted Miss America reject
Mash Mouth & the Blue Boys
The Crab
Gossip Maven - who could make loose lips anywhere

I'm glad the current creative team respects the classic villains so much. It's been great seeing them taken so seriously.

I remember the Crab terrifying me as a kid. I've never looked at Crabs the same ways since...

I really liked the crossovers with "Mick Anger, Agent of B.R.A.S.S." especially when it turned out that the Conductor had secretly infiltrated and taken over B.R.A.S.S. The flashbacks with Anger and the Golden Age Hornblower were pretty cool too.

I hope they ignore the protests of the 'hipper than thou' fans and bring back the HORNBLOWMOBILE.

What a masterpiece of aerodynamic engineering!

I always loved the Hornblower's Secret Asteroid Base, when Hornblower and Hornblower Lass were involved in all those secret missions!
"Bump In The Night"
"Queen for a Day"
"The Legacy of Horn-E"
"Dark Days Between Us"
"Hornblower Lass's Big Day!"
"Loose Lips Sink Ships"
"The Great Darkness Cometh"
"Greased Palms of Crime Alley"
"Lonely Knights of Asteroid X"
"The Boy Who Wanted To Be Hornblower"

Well, having the Sinister String Quartet break into the Bandstand and destroy the Blowmobile and the Blowcopter was part of that back-to-basics thing. Trends come and go, it'll be back once they use it in "Hornblower: The Animated Series."

I really liked Hornblower Lass's cool retro-punk outfit of the 1980's! Fishnet stocking with holes in them and leather jackets looked so hot on her!

[Bump]

For the new series coming at the end of the year. I heard their even bringing back BJ the Hornblower hound back by the end of the first story-arc!

(BTW, this is one of my favorite threads! [Big Grin] )

Heh.

The Hornblower was one of Mal Duncan's more, ummm... UNFORTUNATE identities. And absolutely the WORST costume in all of comicdom from 1939 to the present day. Thankfully, he only wore it for about 4 seconds.

I kinda preferred Mal as the regular guy with no powers and no gimmicks who was just tough enough to hang with the Teen Titans.

But of the multiple IDs he adopted, I liked him as The Gaurdian the most.

Put me down as a fan of Mal as the Guardian also. Didn't care for him as the Hornblower ID with Gabriel's Horn (talk about a lame idea and even lamer name & costume!)

My favorite of all the Titans Month threads! Just wanted to bump it so it could be moved to the Titans Forum!

Everyone should definately reread this--totally hysterical!

Superman had Batman
The Hornblower had Cornel Angus

The Hornblower's Best Buddy was Cornel Angus.
