Hey everyone. Candlelight offered to make some micro heroes based off of the pieces from my "Legion Alternity" sketch collection. These are the first two she's made so far of Sumo Lightning Lad.

Here are the original pieces, the first by Ian Dorian and the second by Edwin Huang.

And here they are:

UPDATE: Candle just edited them. What do you guys think?

Tinypics was acting up a little tonight so that I couldn't get them cropped properly.
I used the garths already done by Future as my base micros since I haven't got a clue how to do them from scratch.

The original red and green seemed perfect for the topknot, toe boots and tiny beard.

The second one, from his current outfit, looked like he had a diaper on so that why I picked that one.
I like the sandles and I'm going to try for toes, if I can figure them out.

Candle... Garth looks great!!

No rush, but when do we get to see some more??

She's working on a couple based on the Sumo Timber Wolf piece Francis Manapul did. Or, so she's told me.

And shown him!
Doubtful little boogger!(I don't know how to spell 'booger'! Dang it!)

I'm sorry, but I couldn't leave Red's toe broken or Blue's feet too short:
 -
I can tell the difference, anyway.

Posted by Candlelight on :

Okay.
Here's a sumo Brin.
I like him quite a bit, especially his bare feet, eyes, sideburns and wild hair/fur.
I might add a different belt buckle, if SK wants it, and the hair still needs something, maybe more form or an outline.
What do you think?
Advice?

 -
The original was a Jo by Future.
And the colors, costume and face/hair were from a con drawing SK's posted here, in a number of places.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

The hair definitely looks better, thank you.

Here are the sketches it was based on, the first by Francis Manapul, the second by Tim Smith 3.

I love his nose and mouth with tongue, but it's too cutsey/cartoony, I'm afraid.

I'll fix that when I do the buckle, coloring changes, sandels and hair.

Here's this Brin, finished, I think.
I finished the hair, added sandles and wolf buckle, removed the cutesy stuff and changed the colors a little.
sigh

From now on, I'll do a set before posting them. It'll take a little longer between postings but I like have more than one at a time for people to see.

Edit: forgot the glove and eyebrow removal before!

I think I'm finished with my version of Sumo Brin.
It's based on a suggestion of Suncat's and SK's for a Red Lantern of Rage for the Legion of Light Museum thread last year.
I came up with a picture of Brin for that and this micro 'look' is loosely based on that idea.
I'd put the other Brin here but I'm having a major reworking problem with it.

Anyway, the Red Wolf:

As I've progressed, I hope, I've realized that the first Garths that I did failed to follow SarK's design much, as shown in the drawing.
So, I made a new one.
I've also updated the original two, a little.
I'm done with these Garths now, but I do have the Ninja Garth in the works.
It's complicated so I might do a few others before finishing him.

Lord knows I have quite a few projects to finish and I have a new project/thread that I'd like to start this fall.

This Garth was pretty fun working out from the drawing - the nose is longer in the tip in the drawing so I changed the 3 to match it.
The hair and face aren't exact but I hope they're a fairly interesting interpretation.
The drawing first:

And the micros:
 -
(Slight update to eyes and tummyx2.)

Dirk's feet and legs are pretty perfected for the sumo's so I changed out everyone's with his template.

That's the fun thing with working on Micros for awhile: you develop a better template for yourself! ...granted, I have OCD and continue to use my slightly outdated ones so all my Legionnaires will look the same.

Liking the Garth updates. The longer nose looks good.

Thanks, future.
Your comments mean a lot to me since I so respect your incredibly detailed work!
If I didn't have drawings to go by for the faces and proportions and things, I'd probably not worry about expressions and things, either.
[Yes]

And the feet are so important for the proportions of the bodies and because so many of his characters either have barefeet or sandles on.
[Frown]
lol

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

I wasn't intended Francis Manapul to draw Brin with the sandals. I thought it was going to be the same toeless boots from his regular outfit, but decided not to correct him. I was lucky enough to have him do it without incidence, since the piece in question could obviously be considered to be a fetish piece like you see on DeviantArt.

The noses do indeed look amazing. The hair on the redesign sort of resembles Dave Cockrum's art, but I haven't seen that much of his work on the Legion.

Posted by Candlelight on :

Fetish?!!
gads

The feet were actually fun to learn how to do.
And the sandles.
Not the ones on the 'old' Brin micro, but the one I have now and will post as soon as I finish the costume colors revision.
[Yes]

I'm going to fiddle with Garth's tummy again, too.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Sort. Truth be told, when I originally thought of the sketch I was expecting him to draw Brin in one of those sumo diapers.

Posted by Candlelight on :

I like the tights.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

I prefer them myself. And, let's face it, a big hairy guy in a sumo diaper would've probably sent the wrong signal to a lot of people.

Well, I finished another alternaty character for SarK.

This is Itty Bitty.
I assume she shrinks or something like that.
Lot's of adjustments and redos and splicing and computer issues BUT she was still fun to figure out and finish.

As promised - Mall Hair Girl:
 -

She's fairly close to the drawing, with some concessions to the size of the pixels.
And my interpretaions.

Her power is something like Spider Girls, I think, with an attitude like Comet Queens.
I kept the hair simpler than the drawings and I like that the curls look kind of like birds, which adds a dimension to her, and possibly, her powers. A flock of hair birds might be fun.
I thought that forming hearts with her hair might be something she'd do, too.
[Yes]
The shoelaces are pink and her eyes are green.

(Tinypics won't save the orange in the planet part of the saturn emblem for some reason, so I placed her in a poster to try to bypass whatever the problem is with the color.)
[Frown]
Here's the drawing, for reference:

When I designed the Garth that actually went with the drawing SarK had, I gave him long hair and a fairly slim frame.

Thanks, Future and everyone.
It's amazing how much changing a pixal can set in motion, a hundred others seem to move in or out of alinement and everything either gets unbalanced or comes into sharp view.

The girls were fun because their expressions in the drawings were pretty neutral and I didn't have to bulk them up, so I could concentrate on the costumes and make-up.
lol

I feel real satisfaction with Ittys slip and sleeve lace and her purse.
MHGs bubblegum was lots of fun and trial and error, as were her shoes.
I can see her writing words with her hair, too.

My favorite guy so far, has been Dirk.
I think the drawing and micro came out very complimentary.

I added the belt and bangles which were a part of the original chibis character.

Here's one from an early story, before Ebony is deaged for awhile.
Scooby Doo shows up and he thinks of Garth (Toon version) as Shaggy.

Garth is Future's, Scooby is from Mystery Inc. and Ebony is my design - this is her after her non-powered vigilante persona, but before she gets electrical powers.

I also liked Jacques with the long hair, too, and added the red jacket that was on the black and yellow version for fun.

Here's my first Alternatiy character, Sumo Brin, 'fixed'/updated.
I can now let this character rest.

Because I combined gif and jpg images, I had a very difficult time with the colors patterning and getting lost when I'd save things.
That happened with a lot of my characters until I realized what I was doing wrong.
It made the whole process so frustrating.

But, I still like this one, quite a bit, even if he isn't perfect.

On Future's thread, I commented on Blok, thinking the he and Shikari would make a nicely matched couple.
So, here they are.

I have always thought of Blok as a serious type of person, so his gladiator skirt and chains costume seems very far from what the character would chose for himself.
But the color of the skirt is beautiful and something, with the blue, that goes well with the gray of Blok's skin.
The costume I picked is simple and elegant, two more ideas that go with Blok, imo.

This next one is the last of the current Ebony micros.
She is now capable of Garth's electrical powers.

Garth's is obvious, the other one is from her BFF, Monstress (one of her beachware numbers.)

I visited Micro-Heroes Compendium and looked at some fun stuff. Not as good as Future's, most of them, but still inspiring.

There was an Insect Queen and an Arcane.
I decided to combine them, along with Future's Dawnstar and my Itty Bitty plus just some free hand stuff.

I can't give more credit than this because I can't figure out how to find out who's done what on the site. I just know that there's more than one artist there.
[Confused]

What remains from the two I started with is the legs of Arcane and the hair/mask/eyes/stripes of Lana, although the hair and stripes have been altered.

I had to simplify Future's shading, etc..
I think she turned out fairly well, and I think she's different enough from anything that Future might do with her in the future, so to speak.

Here goes:

Well, on an Avengers thread, Mystery Lad talked about Marvel hinting at creating a new all Midgard Valkynoir team of 8 incorruptable heroines, with Valkyrie as their leader.

Set and ML and I made suggestions and I thought of the Razer's Byzantine site and micros as a good starting point for a 'look' that would be unique.

I just couldn't leave them there on his island site, alone and unseen by the posters here.

So, I present some of the characters that I've amalgamated with my ideas and details from various Super-Hero Conpendium site works.

These characters come from many artists, or parts of them do.
Blanchett hands or a kat face and hair or maybe a puppy from JR(I not sure since his name wasn't on the character.)
She sure is cute though.
I just added little Asgardian wings on her head and a bow.

Everyone has pants on because serious horseback riding requires them.
They also all have Asgardian head gear/wings.
Some of them, like Magma, that's all I did.
Some have a huge amount of work in them to bring them to their present look.

 -

Row 1 - Valkyrie, Dani Moonstar & Aragorn, her steed, Jocasta, Nightside (Marvel's Shady), Amanda Sefton, Darkstar.
Row 2 - Magma, Snowbird, Shadowcat & Lockheed, Frenzy, Deadly Night Shade, Gloriana, Jennifer Kale, Mantis.
Row 3 - Polaris, Power Woman, Lockjaw's pup & Iridia, Hellcat, Thundra, Photon and Black Widow.

Aragorn started life as Comet.

Here's Razer's Bysantine Knights site:
http://razer.medinnus.com/index.htm

He's an amazing artist and I've learned a lot from him!

Comet and a lot of the base characters are here:
http://micro-heroescompendium.blogspot.com/

Razer has lots of micros that are done spectacularly, even some reboot Legionnaires, but not many of the characters that I needed, so I used some of his designs, some of the characters from compendium for reference and a lot of my time and effort.

Of the first row, only Jocasta was herself.
I gave her a nose, mouth, cape, pants and 'wings'. I also took away her 'flesh' parts.
She doesn't have any, does she? [Confused]

Anyway, 4 of 8 on the second row and I created 3 of the seven on the third row, although I altered all of his, especially adding Future like shading details.

K.
These are the wolves that Razer has done.
Set suggested that the Valkyrior might ride other creatures besides winged horses.
He suggested wolves, and Razer had already accommodated that 'request', so I just added his favorite of the Valkyrior that I had pictured, and the one that he called 'funky', IIRC.

As for Valkyrie herself, I found an Aragorn on the Compendium site after I created my own Aragorn for Dani.
Valkyrie's steed is picture much like Dani's Aragorn in the comic covers that I've seen in my research.
She needed to be pictured on a steed, I thought, because of her role as leader.

I also thought that having her standing, her sword drawn, might be a fun change from Nightside's pose.

 -

This winged horse was created by JR, with the horse part coming from Comet.
If Rat created the Comet version using the same horse base or if he actually came up with the horse itself, I don't know.
[shrug]
I had originally put wings on the wolves, but changed them at the last minute, fealing that wolves might not like the wing flight experience.
Stepping/running through 'wrinkles in time or space' would probably fit their nature better.
[Yes]

Edit: I found a mistake in the last one, I'm so blind sometimes.
sigh
While I was fixing it, I decided to add Photon and Thundra to this one, since I've decided to put the gals together according to their suggested groupings.
For example, the last group to this point is suggested by Mystery Lad.

The new grouping here was his idea of some of the nominations that Valkyrie herself would pick.

When I'm finished, I'll have updated the Nightside and Iridia grouping to just include my picks.
And, I'm working on one for Set's ideas, too.

These are most of Mystery Lad's suggestions for the Valkyrior, in action.
Mantis is levitating, Darkstar flys, Polaris uses her magnatism (yes, I used her again with slight changes 'cause I like her.)

Magma has her steed, I've named him Lava (go figure.)

The two new ones are Crystal, with Lockheed and pups.
Her armor is the enriched yellow and black that she usually wears. The wings hide her normal hair ornament so I made them black with the darkest shade of gold that I used, as an accent.

Madame Mask is a real favorite, especially after my original disinterest in her.
She's riding a gold version of Thundra's plateform.

I keeping with the micro and Byzantine bases, I found Lil Micros as a base for the baby, which I altered a lot, including everything but the boots. She's, I think their child is a girl, is sleeping.
Set said that PW would look cool carrying her baby on her hip, so that's what I went for.
[Hug] myself.
lol

I changed Power Woman's costume details to reflect the Power Man costume, since they're married.
I kept him the way he was created by Razer, except that I've added eyes, which I may change to sun glasses or something.
I like his eyes.

I approve of this.

Here they are pretty well finished until grouping, which may take awhile.
(Something about Snowbird and a polar bear, :shrug)
[Smile]

Maybe Power Woman will be able to fly better if she has her family for weights.
[Yes]

Edit: this is the mostly final form of these three. The carrier is detailed, as is the baby, and mom is finished, too.

Here's my Meggan/Glorianna/Goblin Queen/Captain Britian.

Set thought that the original looked like the Enchantress.
[shrug]

Wiki research reminded me that usually we see her empathic shapeshifter image, the on that others see her as.
Blonde Meggan is the unconscious desire of Brian's heart.

But this is how she really looks, just on her own.
I had to make her much taller, since she is in her own form, tall, thin, bigger pointe ears, long white hair and black eyes.

We don't see this version very often, but I like her quite a bit.

Until the final grouping of my picks for the Valkyrior:

This one is related to the Byzantine Knights, but isn't a Valkyrior idea.

I found an Arsenal by Razer (and a Cheshire in the second set) which I liked, and haven't changed other then to add Lian (making Roy's hand supportive of her) and grouping them.

Lian is based on Razer's LIL Micro base design, although I've added a mouth, a nose and changed the eyes slightly; the hands are smaller, too.
I also made her shape child like rather than the adult form that Razer's take, since I'm forming a child rather than a 'lil' adult.

I love the lil's for children, especially since most of the child micros that I've seen aren't very good, imo.
 -

Edit: finally have Lian's eyes a way that I like.

Good job on the Power Family update.

Here is Set's grouping, some of them.
I started with his character suggestion, then picture research on wiki, Super-Heroes Compendium, Ze Ball Breaker Micro-Heroes Site and Razer's Byzantine Knights.

Amanda Sefton got the Golden Fleece for her flying transportation. It's from Greek Mythology, include in Jason and the Argonauts and the story of Medea's poor children, among other stories, IIRC. The basE came from the Olympian, an uncredited micro that I found at the Compendium site, but I think it was made by Rat.
I started with the horns, adding length and twists from a couple of ram pictures that I found on the net, which I also used for the ram's face.
The fleece is multiple layers & manipulations of Rat's fleece.

Jennifer Kale is riding a magical cube that I made for her.

Clea was a new put together, using a couple of drawings of her wearing the pink outfit and the black and silver costume. The shape of her head comes from a Wonder Woman, the hair doubled, cape added, costume combining 5 or 6 of Razer's creations plus my own touches and things, like the white hair and the eyes half closed and the hands/arms.
I couldn't resist adding Dr. Strange at the last moment, unchanged from Razer's version except for the pants.

The Power family only has minor changes from the one that I've already posted.

Spider Woman, the Jessica Jones, I hope, version. Razer had done a blue and white version, which I color changed, added new hair-face-mask-hands-gloves and power pad to.

Frenzy has a chocolate steed with a Comet base, tapestry wings from a Razer angel, horns from Rat and tack that I made up from Frenzy's costume. The gold hooves/shoes are just mine.

I have a Snowbird and steed coming, but it's different enough to get a separate background and a couple of other characters which you'll just have to guess at.

Spider Woman, Frenzy, and Amanda are my faves.

Okay, my choices, or, part of them, anyway.

Most of them I've posted already, so they just have little tweeks to them.

3 are new in their movement, and one of those is just formed, Wanda.

Kitty has a new Lockheed, by JR and a platform, insubstantial, for the most part, like Kitty.
The dragon is from a wiki drawing of Lockheed, and he's Lockheed's older brother, in my mind, anyway.
[Yes]

Jocata was in the original lineup, but her robot steed is a favorite. The softness of the butterfly wings works well with the hardness of the rest of her transportation.

Wanda is a Razer creation that I worked with, adding a cape and changing much of the design, since I wanted something more like Wanda to me.

I plan on one more of these panels, then I'll move on to some other things I have in mind.

I'm about half way done with my last Valkyior panel for the series.
Takes forever!
But I've learned alot!

And we thank you for it.

Okay.
Here's two versions of Hildegarde, one of the Asgardian demigoddesses that I'm including in my final Valkyrior panel.
I can't decide which I like best.
Does anyone have a favorite of the two?

I have some others to finish up before I have to decide, so I'll see if there's any preferences here before I pick one.

All of the Asgardians that I'm going to include, the females, anyway, have the panel down the middle, of various designs.
They also have fur, here and there.

I'm working on Hela and final tweeks, then, the final three of the proposed candidates.
One is almost done, and what a bear it's been, one who'll be steeded up, and a final one that isn't started yet.
sigh

not familiar with all the characters, but neat stuff!

I'm glad you like them, Kent.
And I'm sorry if the Marvel characters aren't familiar to you.
Some of them aren't really that familiar to me, either!
lol

I was looking up Hela for info, and decided that she's too much of an outsider to be a Valkyrior mentor.
So, I'm dropping her.
I thought about adding a Brynhilde, but she seems pretty crazy from the legends, so I don't know.

Ahhh, mythology.

And the drawing posted on the Con Sketches thread:

That is awesome, and if Lightning Lad were to wear that in the comics I would definitely approve.
Here's the drawing that was the basis for the micro ~
