Over the past year+ of enjoying City of Heroes, I've created a number of heroes. Some I play constantly, others were created on a whim to see how close to the real version I could get with the character generator.
I thought you all might enjoy seeing the Legionnaires in CoH style. This is what the other LW players on CoH joking refer to as "Vee's Legion"
First up the 3 Founders, starting with Cos.
As you can see I've done him in the various versions of his outfit.

And finally, whenit came time to do the third founder, I decided I didn't like Imra so I decided to create an alternate reality gender reverse version of her. Meet Saturn Kid!
(Remind anyone of the Grell era story in which the Jeckie is afflicted with something or other and the Legionnaires decide that they need to really confuse her so two of the guys dress up like male versions of Saturn Girl and Nura (?)

Next up (in continuity) are Tinya and Lu. Unfortunately Lu hasn't earned her cape yet but I think she'll look great once she does.
Posted by Vee on :
Following these two ladies, came Invisible Kid, Colossal Boy and Cham. I've done various versions of Lyle and one of Gim but I've held off on Cham until I can create him with a special type of character that only becomes available when you finally reach level 50 with one of you heores. That should happen within the next few weeks so I'll finally be able to do my version of Cham then.
Posted by Vee on :
More to come later!
Posted by Vee on :
Next up in continuity would be Kara and Brainy. Again, I'm not a big fan of Brainy's so I decided to do an alternate reality gender reversed version named Querla-5.
Posted by Vee on :
The next threee in order are Superboy, Ultra Boy and Star Boy.
Posted by Luna on :
These are great, Vee!
I'm finding that Tinya to be very intoxicating!

Thanks Luna! Stay tuned, many more to come.
Posted by Vee on :
Next up are Vi, Dirk and Chuck. You really need to see Vi in-game to get the impact, she really is tiny.
Posted by Caliente on :
Wow... sweet!! That's so nifty... almost makes me want to play!
Posted by Greybird on :
Very attractive original designs! A bit of more baroque ornamentation seems to work well for these characters from the future. (It'd never be portrayed well in the printed comics, even today, let alone on Silver Age newsprint.)
Do they have to "earn" capes from game play or longevity? And has anyone at City of Heroes given you grief about using Legion or Supes names or allusions to images, in light of the Marvel lawsuit?
Posted by Vee on :
Glad you like them.
Grey, to be able to wear a cape, the hero has to reach level 20. Once at 20, s/he can then do a special mission. Successful completion of the mision earns him or her the right to add a cape to their costume. Of course, the tailor charges extra for the cape.
I've not had any problems with any of my heros but many others have. I make sure that I don't use the copyrighted name (or even a misspelled version of it) For example, Cos is named Cosmic Rokk, Garth is Boltz Boy, Chuck is BB Chuck, Jo is Rimborian.
Even so, it is possible that you can run into a problem simply from having too accurate a costume. So far, I've been lucky. I think its because the Legionnaires are not exactly the most widely known superheroes so are less likely to attract attention. That's why I never actually played Kal or Kara. They would be too obvious even though I named them Le Lak and LeRoz Arak.

It does, Vee, but the story in question was "The Legionnaires who Never Were" from ACTION 392. The male "Legionnaires" were supposed to be counterparts of Saturn Girl and Princess Projectra.

About this time Garth experienced his first heroic death and Ayla replaced him in the Legion. Apparently Jimmy Olsen became an Honorary Legionnaire about the same time and we know that Nura joined (the first time) and changed Ayla's power from lightning generation to Anti-grav.
Here are my versions of those three Legionnaires. Nura was never a favorite of mine and here outfit looked really bland so I decided to do an alternate universe gender reversed version known as Dream lad instead. I think he's a real hottie! What do you think?
Posted by Vee on :
Next, we met the young hero with perhaps the saddest power. Kid Psycho could generate force fields that were virtually impeneratble but the Legionnaires had no choice but to reject him for membership because each time he used his power, he shortened his lifespan! Even so, he earned a spot as a reservist and eventually gave his life saving people during the Crisis.

Posted by Vee on :
The next batch of Legionnaires to be inducted were Karate Kid, Princess Projectra, and Ferro Lad (Nemesis Kid as well, but he'll show up with my Legion of Super Villains )
JEckie was never a favorite of mine so she got the gender reversed treatment as Prince Projector (though I am thinking of doing a Sensor Girl version. If I do, I'll add her here)
I have a classic version of Val as well as the current version.

Thanks LAM! Wish I could take credit for the artwork but it's all generated by the character generator in City of Heroes. You just pick and choose the various components. My Dad was a professional artist (and a damn great one!) but I have little if any skill with a pencil, though I do have a vivid imagination.

Two more Honorary members came next. Lana Lang as Insect Queen and Rond Vidar. (I love how Lana turned out. When she earns it, she going to look awesome in the insect wing cape! Rond has always been a favorite of mine so there are various versions of him around.
Posted by Vee on :
Next we met Tasmia Mallor, Shadow Lass! She's always been one of my favorite female Legionnaires (though I never liked her paired with Mon. I'd love to see her and Val become a couple in this version or even her and Dirk!) And, yes, Tas is in desperate need of a cape IMHO.
Posted by Vee on :
To close out the Adventure Era, we finally get to see the first two graduates of the Legion Academy granted membership. (It would be a while before we saw any more.) First up Timber Wolf...
Posted by Vee on :
...and the other is Chemical King. Most of you know that Condo is my favorite Legionnaire besides Mon. I've always felt that he never got a fair shot because most writers could not really understand just how powerful a catalyst could truely be. And, perhaps because of the codename he was given (Chemical King) many writers probably didn't see the difference between Condo and Jan.)
In any case, Condo is my main character on CoH (currently level 42 of a possible 50) and so he's had various costumes. I've posted them in the order in which the various costumes came into existence. You'll note that his classic look is the last. This is becasue I finally found a combination that I liked. (You'd think that such an simple costume would be easy, but I just didn't like the results until I did this version) That one non uniform version is what Suddenly Seymour calls the GoGo Boy look (Condo's casual and club hopping attire )

Dawny and I just have one brother, Greatfire. (In boring, mundane "real life," I also have just one brother. Never the twain shall meet, as my bro Tim isn't a Legion fan.) 'Fire has sassy wings too. I'd love to see what look you'll have for him! ... if I heard you correctly!
Oh, and the CoH images are showing up today. They tend to be all of 'em or nothing, though. That suggests a server difficulty. You might check for Webspace-user error or down-age messages at BellSouth.
I hope you would consider doing what Loser and others have been helpful in doing, especially for those of us still with slower dial-up:
Try creating smaller, separate versions of your images, 200 to 250 pixels wide, and displaying those while also making them into links to the larger versions. (To do that uses an IMG tag for the smaller version's location, nested within a URL tag for the larger version's location.)
Using the THUMB tag, unfortunately, still loads the larger versions -- they're just resized by LegionWorld's server. That tag would at least shrink page width and length, though, if you aren't able to create separate, smaller thumbnails.
(By the way, I've mentioned this tactic in public to suggest it once again to all who may have been unaware of it, not just to Vee.)

The next group of 4 to join the Legion were the First of the Cockrum/Grell era. Wildfire, Dawnstar, Tyroc, and Blok were all very unique and quite different from the previous Legionniares.
Wildfire was fun to create and came out great (IMHO)
Then there was Tyroc. I plan on redoing him as soon as the new CoH update hits the live server since they will be adding two new power sets, one being Sonics and the other Archery.
Next came Dawny but I really didn't like the way she turned out, so instead I opted to gender reverse and create a brother (turns out to be a cousin, I guess ) named Star Tracker. As you can see, CoH still doesn't have wings availoable though I keep hearing that they are working on making them available. Maybe one of these days!
And finally we had Blok, who started out as an unwitting viallain, but he soon realized that the Legion wasn't evil and he switched sides. Blok has been a lot of fun to play!
****Edit: Something be very very wrong!!! Tried three different hosting services (My Netscape, Bellsouth, and ImageVenue) and only Blok seems to want to appear...even through the link! I'll see if I can't straighten it out.

The we finally got the induction of my all time favorite female Legion character. Mysa caught my attention when we were first introduced to her during the Adventure era and I started rooting for her to join immediately. Had to wait about 20 odd years but it finally came to pass!
She's had a variety of looks on CoH, as you'll see, but she's always been a hottie. That's actually a good thing because it means she rarely lacks for team ups which is usually helpful, although she manages to hold her own while soloing.
Here she is in the order in which her look evolved.
And I was finally able to develope a version of her original Adventure era look with which I was happy. Here she is as we first met...The White Witch.

And we finally get a return to the days of Legion try-outs and added 5 new members to the ranks of Legionnaires...Sensor Girl, Polar Boy (who finally became a Legionnaire), Magnetic Kid, Tellus, and Quislet!
Here's Sensor Girl, who has yet to earn her cape.
Posted by Vee on :
Tellus and Quislet quickly became favorites of mine. I'm waiting to use a new archtype before creating Tellus and I had to completely reimagine Quislet in order to play him on CoH. This version of Quislet is one that was finally able to return from his home dimension. Prior to his latest escape, he completely redesigned his "containment vehicle" to more closely resemble humans. He took his inspiration from his close friend Drake for the colors.
And here he is...Fun Loving Quiz!
Posted by Vee on :
Next up, we got to see Polar Boy, long time leader of the Subs, finally achieve his lifelong goal...Legion membership. I have two versions of Brek, one with his traditional look, and another with a completely reimagined costume for Polar Boy.
Posted by Vee on :
Last but certainly not least of the new kids, Pol Krinn became the fifth new member offered membership as a result of those try-out. Pol was always a favorite of mine, perhaps because he was the kid brother who always looked up to and wanted to follow in his big brother's footsteps, as difficult as that might be. Alas, Pol we barely got the chance to meet you before we lost you.
Here are the two versions of Pol that I have running around Paragon City.
There are a couple of other heroes we met during these tryouts that I plan on creating but haven't gotten around to yet. I think some of them would be pretty interesting as Academy students of members of the Subs.

Before I get to the the 5YG Legionnaires that I've done, and those beyond that in the postboot. There are some others that need to appear. First and foremost, we absolutely need to meet the Subs! They were an important part of the Legion's history right from the very early days.
Of course, you've already seen Polar Boy, who was the first Sub to join the LSH (although Stone Boy was actually the first Sub to be offered membership. He turned it down because he wouldn't leave his Sub buddies behind) but here are the other original members of the Subs that's I've done: Lydda Jath, Night Girl, Chlorophyll Kid, Stone Boy, Fire Lad (I've done two versions of Staq),

We soon met some other members of the Subs, namely Color Kid, Porcupine Pete, and Infectious Lass
Of course there was also Eyeful Ethel and Double Header but I haven't done either of them...yet!
Posted by Vee on :
Besides the Subs, we also met a number of Legion Allies and Legion Academy students. I've done a few of these as well.
First up (actually one of the very first non members we ever met) is Marla Latham, who was RJ Brande's assistant and was originally in charge of training the new Legionnaires for membership.
Posted by Vee on :
And then there was that ornery old cus, Dr. Gym'll
Posted by Vee on :
During the Adventure era we met a number of super powered heores that became allies of the Legion eventually. Some were solo heroes (like Dev-Em ~ who was originally an adversary of Superboy, later turned Legion ally), and some were members of the Heroes of Lallor and the Wanderers (of which I have yet to create any with one exception, sorta ) or even (this is for Lash and EDE, really) the Super Companions!.
There were also some heroes depicted in the Hall of Fallen Heroes (in the infamous Adult Legion story arc) that were assumed to eventually become Legionnaires, particularly once Shadow Lass made her debute followed shortly thereafter by Chemical King. One of these was Quantum Queen, whom we eventually met as a member of the Wanderers and the other was Reflecto.
Here are my version of some of these heroes: Dev-Em, Reflecto (who eventually become a Legionnaire..or was a melding of Superboy and Ultra Boy...or...), Storm Boy (of the Super Companions...or a Legion Reject who eventually joined during the 5YG) and Quantum King (I tried to do Quantum Queen but was unhappy with the result so opted to create a brother for her who joins the Legion while trying to determine what happened to his sister and the other Wanderers)
Posted by Vee on :
Last but not least before the 5YG, we met a group of young heroes that were in training for future Legion membership. As students of the Legion Academy, they were able to work on their skills in the hopes of eventually getting accepted into the Legion. I haven't done all of those we met as Academy students (yet ) but here are those I have: Shadow Kid~Grev Mallor (not sure I like how he turned out but I've yet to redo him), Power Boy, Visi-Lad (actually, I created him as RTVU2 but I like how he came out so I decided to keep him as my version of VisiLad), and Comet Kid (this was supposed to be Comet Queen but I was less than thrilled with the results so he took her place in my Legion)
There are a few others I still want to do, including Lamprey, Nightwind, Westerner, & Crystal Kid. I'll post 'em when I make 'em!
Next up....the Legion's enemies from the pre-boot. (Did you really think I wouldn't do them? ) Then I'll finish up the rest of the Legionnaires I have from the post boot and 5YG.

You obviously put a lot of work into these Vee, they are great! It also appears that as you've done more your confidence and skill has increased - the Mano above is my favourite, though the last Chemical King, Sensor Girl, Blok, the subs, the LSV (Beauty Blaze especially) and re-designed Quislet are also tremendous!
Are you going to try the Legionnaires (Computo, Dragonmage, Catspaw, Andromeda) and DnA Legionnaires (XS, Gates, Kinetix) next? I'd love to see you do an Atmos and the Lallorian Heroes too (not too much then )
My only complaint is you didn't do Nura - though Dream Lad is gorgeous
More, more, more!

Re: Nura, if you take a look at the very first picture of Mysa...
...that's what Nura looked like when I tried to do her, albeit with white hair instead of lavendar. That's one of the reasons I chose to do a Dream Lad instead. She would basically have been a duplicate.
As for the Post-boost legionaires (Dragonmage, Catspaw, etc) Yep, I've got some of them to show off as well as some from the DnA run so hang on, there's plenty more to see!
Posted by Vee on :

LAM: Calamity King joined during the 5YG right at the very end. It was when the Legion ranks had been so decimated that they were recruiting anyone available. Others that joined during that time were Echo, Crystal Kid, most of the Subs, Storm Boy, and various others. Many only lasted a few weeks before they had to leave Earth for fear of being imprisoned, or to join the armed resistance movement against the Dominator-controlled EarthGov.

BTW, how are you doing your screen caps? I've tried "print screen" but can't find where the pics go.

I use Paintshop Pro's screen capture feature for them but if you use the in game feature, you'll find them in a sub folder called "screenshots" in your City of Heroes folder which should be at
C:/Program Files/City of Heroes/Screenshots
if you did the standard install with the game. )In your case it might be City of Villains/screenshots instead)
I have plenty more screen shots of heroes and villains to add to this thread so keep checking back. While it may seem I'm all about the Legion, I also have plenty of Titans, Outsiders, JSA, Freedom Fighters, JLA etc. yet to be added.
