A thread meant for bringing works that you believe are worthy of computer coloring to the attention of the many talented adepts of that art who populate LegionWorld ...

Posted by Greybird on :

I just posted this striking scene of a timeline-tangled future by Ralph Ramil Mendoza. (Click here for notes.)

I've rarely seen a fan artist's fully inked work that, to me, has cried out so much for color as this one does. Anyone want to rise to this challenge?

Hey, where's Loser Lad been?

Posted by Loser Lad on :

Oh, he's around... [Wink]

Dawnstar and Booster Gold in the same picture?!? I'll definitely give this a shot! Can anyone help with some identification on some of the background characters?

I'm thinking that's probably Manitou Raven from JLA (Elite) between Booster and Dawny. In the background I see (top to bottom) Kingdom Come Superman, a Green Lantern, Captain Atom(?), JLA Satellite-Era Zatanna, ??? (bald woman?), ??? (guy with a dog hat?), ??? (woman with headband), ??? (guy with headband), Thor and Nova(?).

Anybody know who all these guys are?

Posted by Caliente on :

I was thinking the woman-with-headband is Fire but that's the only one I could identify that you didn't already. I definitely agree on Captain Atom and Z. But, yeah. Sorry.

Random note: Why is Thor there??

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

I think the bald woman is Moondragon

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

I think the headband woman is a Marvel character too. Isn't she Thundra from the FF?

Posted by Vee on :

Could that guy with the "dog hat" be Flying Fox? I agree about bald headed woman being Moondragon. Only one's I'm unsure about are headband guy and gal.

Posted by Greybird on :

The artist did this in the Perez style at the request, of another Perez fan, to combine Dawny and other DC and Marvel characters in a "post-apocalypse" setting.

I don't recall asking for a character key from him, but now I'm glad I didn't ... this is much more interesting, to figure out who they are! (I've invited Ralph to join here. If he sees this thread, perhaps he'll provide a key.)

If we never do find out, Loser and others, don't let that stop you from making your own color choices! It's likely another timeline with this crossover, after all.

Guy with the Wolfskin on his head is Red Wolf, from c. Avengers v1 #80. Guy with the headband & stars is Avengers Forever Kilkraven.

I'm pretty sure you're correct. Looks like Thundra to me too

That Dawnstar picture was really interesting - but i take it that wasnt from an actual story, where some celestial phenomenon causes a rift in the space-time continuum enabling both the Marvel and DC universes to co-exist with all its characters living on the one planet (taking deep breath)....

If its not a story in the making then what is it?

Just for fun?

Posted by Loser Lad on :

Thanks for all the input everyone! I've got everybody ID'd now, and I've found reference for all of the characters, so I'm all ready to get to work on this. It's going to be hella complicated though. It'll take quite awhile to get anything done, so be patient everyone.

Posted by Loser Lad on :

Still working on this. Shouldn't be too much longer. I'm kind of working on it around a few other things, but I'm almost done. So far so good. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait!

Posted by Loser Lad on :

Okay, finally finished. [Smile]

Thanks Gary!

Yay! Lovin' it!

Posted by Greybird on :

Oh, that's really gorgeous. Making all five levels of the elements in the drawing stand out, down to the far-background burning city, distinguishing the smoke from the buildings. And up to, in near-foreground, the individual sinews in Dawny's left hand!

Such color talent indeed adds the third dimension to this kind of art. Thank you, amigo!

Lou, that is absolutely phenomenal! Gorgeous!

That's terrifice Lou! Great job!

Posted by Vee on :

I have one I'd love to see some of our colorists take a crack at. Seymour was able to get this sketch of Mon-El and Chemical King done for me by Moy while at this years San Diego ComiCon.

Thank you for posting it Steve! It was a lot of work, but I'm happy with how it came out. Glad you liked it.

Awesome sketch Vee. I'll take a shot at this when I get a chance. Thanks for including the super-sized version.

Posted by Vee on :

Can't wait! Figured you'd prefer it as large as possible.

Did I say that? [Big Grin]

[Bump] Well, just because [Big Grin]

I'm working on it Vee. Actually about halfway done. Been kind of short on time the past couple of days so it's taking longer than it should, but I should have something finished soon!

Wow! Thanks so much Lou! That's terrific! You're talent never ceases to amaze me.

Could one of our talented folk give this LegionJOHN creation the color it cries out for? (To complement the original, to be sure, not at all to replace it.) Please? I beg of you!

Comments he made on his initial posting of this noted, by the way, that those are legging closures, and that Dawny's legs are mostly covered.

Could anyone maybe color in one or both of these pictures for me...? (I need it for some RPG NPCing.)

In case anyone does take this one, Skids is your basic blonde-haired, blue-eyed all-American girl. Thanks sooo much.

Yeah, y'know, I've never really cared about the New Warriors, but I do like Skids. And it would've been sweet as, IMHO. But I'm thinking we'll never get to see it now. [Frown]

Posted by Loser Lad on :

Hey Cali, can you post some reference for Skids? I'm not familiar with the character.

Posted by Loser Lad on :

Awesome work on the Dawny Dean!!!

Posted by Caliente on :

Okay... let's see what Google cooks up for me!!

Here's her in her ugly arse old costume:
 -

And a site with a bunch of dolls showing her old costumes/outfits: http://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/X-Men/New%20Mutant/Skids.htm

None of these I'm particularly fond of, these sketchs are s'posed to be a whole new look for her. And she needs it!! [Wink]

Thanks sooo much Lou. You're da man. <3

And, I agree with the others Dean. You've really outdone yourself with the Dawnstar picture. Awesome, awesome job bringing it to life.

Astounding, Dean amigo, and I'm grateful to you once again. It makes Dawny's mourning seem far deeper -- as if perhaps, in this reality, Wildfire can't find another suit. I wouldn't have thought of purple as a background, but it perfectly complements her mood and his disembodied color.

Have you got a biger scan of that? It's gonna be pretty much impossible to do anything decent with it at that size.

I'm hoping my thanks will guilt you into doing it for me... [Wink] Er, I mean, duly noted. [Good]

Enjoy. If I get a chance I'll do the other one for you, but I've got some other things to get to first.

Posted by Loser Lad on :

Here you go John. The inked version probably would have turned out a little better, cleaner lines and all, but it still turned out pretty well. Very nice Imra by the way! Thanks for posting it!
