If anyone's interested, I propose a challenge to all you creative types out there. Design a new costume for any Legion Worlder of your choice. Use your knowledge of who these people are, and create a design that you feel reflects it.
Draw it... photomanipulate it... there's no right or wrong way, and it doesn't matter how good or bad you think you draw, so long as you get your design down on paper (or scanned into a computer )
There are no winners and no losers in this challenge, although you may earn the gratitude of the member you are outfitting
Note: this idea came to me as I was trying to design a new costume for myself, and was coming up blank. I figured maybe I should ask someone else to give it a try, and then decided to expand the scope a bit

I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but I did it anyways.
I saw this picture of a character I liked and I turned it into Princess Crujectra, she looks kind of wicked, maybe it's an evil Cru

Very cool indeed! Excellent design!
Great idea, Cru! I can't wait to see more!
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Here's my first contribution: Cobalt Kid!
I was kinda going for a space sheriff/secret agent thing, what with him being chief of security and all. At first the coat was going to be like brown or tan, but then I thought "This is Cobie Cakes... he'd have something more stylish and dramatic." Hence the shiny black overcoat.
I dunno. I'm not sure the idea transferred to paper exactly as I envisioned it, but it's close enough
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
I LOVE it!
The overcoat (and boots) are perfect! A very cool noir-ish addition to the “Chief of Security” bit. I like it (and will refer to it in my tag and onevision posts from now on ).
I also like the collar on the costume too, as well as the haircut!
Hella-kewl, Cru!

Glad you enjoyed it, Cobie. I don't know how obvious it was, but I moved the magnetism chest symbol over to one side, so now it's positioned like a sheriff's badge

I like the Cobie pic, Cru, great job.
I'm really liking this thread, especially becuase I can't draw, but I can use all these pics and turn them into LegionWorlders!
This is the original:
And now her she is as me:
I just changed the shading on the dress from red to blue, being that everything else already goes with me. I like making us kind of evil. Hope you like it.

Technically, this isn't a redesign, since to the best of my knowledge no one has drawn Fat Cramer yet
I kinda based this design on Tigra, of the Avengers. Although feline, I don't know how cat-like this looks. I've never attempted something quite like this.
And I know that she's not very "fat" in this pic, but I don't really think it's necessary. And certainly the real Cramer is quite slim. However, I tried to make her form a little more realistic and a little less... well, Crujectra-esque
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
Excellant work as always Princess.
Again, I have to say that everyone here does great work and makes me a bit jealous that all I can draw is a conclusion.
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Viv, love the pic. I always picture High Priestess having long flowing red hair. Very divine look!
Cru...yes, yes, yes! A pic of FC! And a really cool design! Awesome! I like the design a lot! And we finally get to see those 'Satan Claws' of hers

Okay, here is my latest attempt: the lovable Nightcrawler.
I tried to pull a little from the X-Crawler versions that I liked, and then gave it a little LW splash, with maybe a bit of my own flair. It either turned out pretty good or its crap

I really like the shadow pattern on the face and the cool belt design.

I was just doodling away at lunchtime, missing my man, so I decided to try a new costume for him. I'm not completely happy with the proportions, but it was just a lunchtime doodle, so I guess I shouldn't be too hard on myself. The lines are a bit thicker than usual cuz I inked it using markers, rather than a pen/marker mix.

Hey Quis! I don't have the ability to draw this but here's my version of how I think Quislet Esq. of the LMBP & LW would look. You'll notice I made sure you had a "power hat" and glasses so you could overwhelm & impress competing cousel and the judges as you enter the Super Courthouses...of Space!
Your emblem is a natural and I thought the colors really suited your persona...dignified, classy and very, very sharp!
Hope you like it!

Cru- great Ultra Matt pic, hair and all! I like the bracelets too, they're a great addition to the traditional U-Boy costume to make it more Matty like than Jo-like.

You all saw the beautiful pic of the White Witch by Sketch Lad, I altered it a bit to fit my character.
I showed it to my friend, I told her, "It's was the White Witch revised as my character." She replied, "So now she's the Blue B*tch?" I kicked her.
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Okay, so this is a new design for me (big surprise, I know ).
Now, this is either something that I designed... or something that I stole from someplace. It seemed original when I was drawing it, but once I was done, I got this feeling of deja vu. So, I have either drawn something like this before, or I've seen it somewhere. I think I might have done something similar for a Dream Girl redesign once upon a time, so that might be why it seems familiar.
Anyhoo:
I should probably see about getting my hair cut. Sure, it looks great thrown across a pillow, but it's probably a little impractical for a busy heroine on the go
Posted by Loser Lad on :
Kind of looks to me like Dream Girl wearing the lower half of Phoenix's costume with the sash and thigh-high boots. Maybe that's why it seems familiar? Looks nice either way.
And about that hair, Starfire's gotten away with improbably long hair for years, so why not? And you're right, it does look great thrown across a pillow.

This is a design for the High Priestess that I did at lunchtime today. I kinda took one of her older looks, and gave it a little Crujection. I'm fairly happy with it, except I think I got the legs too short... didn't notice it until after I inked the hem of her dress. Must examine the pencils closer next time. Sigh

Lovely dress, great face, and those hands are really graceful, like a ballerina.

Been busy...
Did two versions of this one, because I couldn't decide which I liked better. Besides, it's not like Princess crujectra can really ever have enough clothes. I mean really. Once I accidentally wandered into her walk-in closet, and it took a search and rescue team three days to find me...

Lou/Cru success is right, Viv! These are great, Lou! You guys make a helluva a team!
The two Cru ones are great—you’re right, it’s hard to say which one I like better. Possibly the second, but Crujeckie just looks good in everything, you know?
Love the FC and Nightcrawler ones! We finally have colored pics of both of them now!
And as for the Cobalt Kid one…<falls down off chair> Awesome, just awesome. Your colors really bring out how cool Cru’s design is, from the darker pants to the cool collar on the shirt. And the dark jacket just screams Security Chief…
I love it! Perfect!

And if that doesn't work for you, here's a more traditional "Ultra Boy" style look...
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Actually, I kinda like the first one. It's nice to break from tradition a little bit, kinda like the one you did of me wearing silver and purple, rather than my usual pink and purple
Posted by Loser Lad on :
I liked the first one too, but since it literally took me 45 seconds to make the changes I figured I'd post 'em both. Never hurts to have a costume change handy, as I'm sure you would attest!

Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
I have a costume in mind, but I need to look through the who's who thread to get a feel for your powers... I can't recall off the top of my head what they are
Posted by Vee on :
Vee started out with simple size chaging powers (hence the "variable" villa) He could grow or shrink all or part of himself or anthing/anyone else. Over the years with practice he has developed his size changing control to the point that he can now fire "blasts" or particle beams that he increases & decreases in size to add speed and an additional punch. He can even grow or shrink seconds into minutes or hours or the reverse so that in effect he can speed up or slow down time.
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
This is something I did last night while watching TV... the ever hot Loser Lad! I've been trying to keep my designs simple... I think it gives them a more "classic" feel. Or that could just be me
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Cool Lou pic, Cru! The costume design has a few nice subtle changes--it'll be really nice to see colored!
And I think a Vee pic would be a great idea!

Posted by Loser Lad on :
Here's Cru's Viviane redesign. Once again I made two different versions.
Here's the more classic Viviane look.
And here's a bit of a different look, that's only to be worn for special ceremonies that take place before Labor Day...
Posted by Loser Lad on :
And a couple of versions of the Loser Lad...not sure which one I like better.
P.S. to Cru: how's that for muscle definition!
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
At least you didn't over define the "muscle" that I already enhanced
Those look great, Lou! And that's exactly what I was talking about, with the second Lou pic. I suck ass at drawing male muscles, which is probably why I draw more women... boobies are easier
I think the second Loser pic is my favorite. I think that color combination looks better. The black in the first pic might work okay with different colors (other than the purple and yellow).
Posted by Loser Lad on :

The more I look at these the more I think you're right. That is the more "classic" color combination for Lou anyway. Thanks again for the cool design!!!
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Here's the design I had for Varalent. The "V" is, of course, for Varalent... the arrowy-like-pointy-things on his gloves, boots and trunks represent the whole "shrink-and-grow" power thing... and the googles... well, they don't really represent anything, but I kind thought they were cool

Hmmm....my first thought was blue & gold. Possibly because the goggles sort of reminded me of Booster Gold's costume.

Well, I happened to be looking at your avatar when I suggested that
Blue and gold is cool too

Course if anyone wants to come and cover my shift at work I can get it done tonight...
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
I would offer to, Loser dear, but I doubt that either of us would get much work done
Posted by Loser Lad on :
Okay. I took my inspiration from an earlier Vee avatar for this. More Nexus than Booster Gold, but I like it. You didn't say what color the hair should be, so I took a guess. Let me know if it's wrong and I can change it.
Posted by Vee on :
Perfect! Thanks

More, I say, more!
Posted by Loser Lad on :

Posted by Vee on :
PS: Lou: The hair is almost exactly correct. Great guess! Mine was probably a bit lighter (though not much) when I had some and when it wasn't shot through with grey.
And the goggles look very much like my glasses ~ same shape though not quite as large ~ so al in all a great job by both without really knowing what I looked like!
Thanks!
Posted by Vee on :
You know.....I think I can actually come close to duplicating that costume on CoH for Varalent! I'll have to give it a shot and see how close I can get.
I'll post the result here if it even comes close to looking as good as the Cru/Lou creation.
Posted by Loser Lad on :
Cool! I'll be looking forward to that.
Posted by Vee on :
Well, as promised here's the City of Heroes version of Vee in his Cru/Lou designer outfit. I was able to get close to Cru's design but not exact. After doing the first I did a variation of it and then two versions in booster gold colors to see how that looked. What do you all think?

There should be a martini glass on there somewhere!
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Oddly enough, I never think of liquor when I design
Changes I am considering are: 1) turning the tunic into an open vest, with a large "T" on the front (2 half "T"s that would turn into a single "T" when the vest was zipped); and 2) losing the boots, and making the pants into leggings (mind you, the transparent parts ARE fabric... he doesn't get nekkid when he's non-transparent )
I might still try that.

I like the suggestions, Princess, but I think that picture of Semi, is FREAKIN' AWESOME!
I give it an A triple plus.
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Cru, I love it! And we finally get a chance to see a pic of Semi!
I like the changes you added, and the T on the chest. I really, really like how you made it look like he’s going transparent—very cool! The shading around the body and on the knee-caps is a nice touch.
And I like how there are no outlines around the boots too! It adds a little to the effect.
Once again, this thread shows me why its one of my faves!
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
It's my first attempt at drawing someone semi-transparent. I didn't want him to appear invisible, hence the outline on the transparent part
I'm not sure which one I like better. I'm thinking I like him best without boots, but I'm torn between the zig-zag tunic and the vest. I think maybe I'm leaning toward the tunic...
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
I like the vest and the boots.
I have told you how jealous I am of artistic people like yourself, right?
Posted by Vee on :
Okay here's the first two I've finished from Cobie's list. I really like the way both of these turned out!
I loved Cru's idea for the open vest so I started there and then the rest just sort of flowed from there.
And then I did Future as well. Based on an LL theme, since Garth is his fav, I added the inifinity emblem to reflect the future...

For formal crime fighting, it would be Space Armani, for casual crime fighting it would be J. (Jet) Crew, and for romantic (?) crime fighting it would of course be Space Valentino. Of course, at Shakes, I'd probably have on black pants, a white shirt (unbuttoned a little too much) and a vest. (I just felt the urge to go shopping.)

Gang, I just read this entire thread and I have to say that it really caught my imagination as I saw the evolution of the designs from post to post.
Really great stuff...
But there is one thing I noticed right off the bat as I looked at the last design (and even though I kind of hesitate to bring this up) I have to ask.
Ummm... Smoothie, shouldn't Nighty's... Tail... be longer and thicker?

One works with the tools one has. Sometimes longer and thicker just isn't an option!

Thanks so much for the compliments, Viv. It's really amazing how versatile that character creator at CoH is. And yet there are so many things you can't do with it (even with the latest upgrade that is about to be relelase)
For example, I would love to do an outfit for High Priestess Viviane but have yet to come up with something I like because there are no long dresses, gowns or robes as option. So I keep playing around with what's there, hoping that some combinations or items will strike me as appropriate.
Thanks again.

This is an idea I had for our own First Lady of Legion World: Saturn (Caroline) Girl. I see her as more of an advisor/mother figure, so I figured that rather than a "costume", she would have a more casual, every day kind of outfit. As with Fat Cramer, I tried to give her a more realistic figure (i.e. not Crujectra proportioned ). After all, beauty comes in many shapes and sizes, so why not show variety?
Posted by Vee on :
That looks perfect for Caroline! Nice and comfortable. She'll love it.
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Thanks, Vee. I was even thinking that we might get away from the "traditional" Saturn Girl color scheme a little (y'know... should *someone* choose to color it ). Maybe either shades of green, or purple and lavendar. Hmmm... maybe the purple and lavendar... different from Imra, and girlie
Posted by Vee on :
Is this what you had in mind? Thought I'd do an amateur version while we wait for ...you know who!
[ April 04, 2005, 02:20 PM: Message edited by: Vee ]
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Kinda sorta. Maybe a slightly darker lavendar and a slightly bluer purple. I dunno. Or maybe something completely different I trust Loser... errr... I mean, whomever chooses to color this... to select good colors
Posted by Vee on :
While we wait for ...whomever, I thought I'd post a couple of designs for the soon to be Couple known as Viviane & Cobie.
Since I couldn't do a long gown for Viv I decided to give her a more casual look. My version of Cobie is as close as I could get to Cru's design for him. See for yourself...
Posted by High Priestess Viviane on :
Cru and Vee: I like the Caroline pic, the colors and design work well.
Vee: Wow, you've got a really great eye for this stuff, I love it and Cobie looks so cute.
Thanks you guys for doing all this, I really appreciate you putting in the hard work.

PS, I want those boots.
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Okay, so today I tried a design for Lightning (Scott) Lad. I went along the same lines as I did for Caroline: less "costume", more casual every day. I was trying to draw elements from different eras: the casual business look of TMK, with accents of pre-boot (the lightning bolts on the shirt) and WnK (the curvy lightning design on the coat sleeves and pant legs). I even tried to bring a little of old school Scott in, doing my best to recall his beard and longer hair, which I put into a ponytail for function
Color-wise, I'm picturing blues (maybe darker for the coat and pants, and lighter for the shirt?), and yellow of course for the lightning.
Posted by Fat Cramer on :
What a lot of great designs for people here! It would be fun to sew them up... I swear, I am going to look for a cat suit.
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Cru, I am LOVING the Scott and Caroline pics! Scooter looks awesome, and his Lightning Lad takes a life of his own! And Caroline looks great...the casual look is perfect, and suits her advisor/maternal side!
Vee, the Viv and Cobie ones look awesome too! I love the way mine looks and how Cru's design translates to that pic. And Viv looks HOT! Who knew these cute soon to be newly weds would be the bitterest of enemies! (Well, Semi, Miner, Cru, etc., but you know...)
And FC...mreoww

This is something I did while working overtime this weekend (I was printing envelopes, and had to fill the time doing something ). It's a new costume for my twin, The Crusader. I tried doing a new pose, which didn't turn out too badly, although when combined with the costume, it does look a little gay I think

Great work, Joe! A girl can never have too many outfits
And I'm sure Loser and Cobie will enjoy having me wear that as well
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Wow, lots of good new stuff!:
Cru, your Lightning Lad is awesome! Different enough than the Legion's LL to showcase Scooter, and an awesome Lightning Lad costume itself. And your Crusader pic rawks too Your costume designs remind me of 80's George Perez/Keith Giffen stuff.
Joeboy--Holy Moley! Those are amazing! Great job! Princess Crujectra looks smoking hot and regal at the same time! Viviane is a super-hottie too, with her full mystical nature being conveyed. And Vee's pic looks great--love the sleeve-less look!
More, I say!
Posted by Dark Priestess Viviane on :

joeboy! These are great, thank you so much! Wow!
The creepy thing is that I was thinking of designing a suit similar to that (yours is much better than what was in my head). It's like you have ESPN or something!

I tried drawing a picture of Crujectra...I don't dare show it, I'll leave the artwork to you guys with the goods.
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Just start by drawing big boobs... the rest will follow naturally
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
This is a Fat Cramer pic I did at lunchtime today. It was inspired by a Beast picture drawn by George Perez. I liked the pose and thought I'd give it a try. It didn't turn out too badly, although I should have drawn the right arm longer so that it's more evident that she is moving on "all fours". Maybe I'll give it another go this weekend
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Cru, great pic! Cramey looks very dynamic and primed for action!
I can definately you see you chanelling George Perez here.
Posted by Vee on :
Love the FC in action pic, Cru! I did a few more creations over the weekend but My Netscape was giving me fits and I couldn't get them to upload. I'll try again today.. Once I get them uploaded I'll paste them here. I know I did one of Loser and one of Princess Crujectra and there was one other but I can't recall who it was right now Or maybe I just imagined the whole thing!
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Thanks, guys. I'm not really happy with how the face turned out. I used a marker, rather than a pen, and I think the facial features look kinda... smooshy. I lost much of the detail, like the fanged teeth. And like I said, I wish I had drawn the right arm longer.
Oh well... considering it was the first try and I only spent like 30 minutes on it, it could have been worse
Posted by Fat Cramer on :
Actually, I've been looking a little smooshy lately... I thought it was a great sketch!
That's interesting to see an action pose - most fashion drawings just show people standing - but think of all the movement models do on a real runway. I don't know if any have ever crouched and pounced....
Joeboy's costumes - very sexy!
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
I'm gonna try doing some new poses as I go along. Most of the stuff I've been doing lately seems to fall into either "dramatic pose" or "hovering in midair". I want to get a little more variety into my sketches, perhaps showing the characters using their powers... maybe some combat stuff. We'll see
I'm even working on a third Cramer pic... definitely a new pose. I think I'm doing alot of Cramer stuff lately because her design really challenges me. The fur and stripey areas are new to me, not to mention the bare feet. I NEVER draw bare feet
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Okay... this is the last Cramer pic for the moment. I just had this one in my head and wanted to give it a try. Granted, she turned out more like "Slim Cramer", but I didn't want to try to change it cuz I was fairly happy with the overall results. At least I didn't give her Crujectra boobs... she'd never be able to run on all fours
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
joeboy, I really like your V. (I am partial to the guys)
Posted by Vee on :
Finally here are the designs I did over the weekend.
First up...my version (or closest approximation) of joeboy's sleeveless number for me. (front and back) Posted by Vee on :
Then I decided our two celebrity designers needed to see their CoH versions so here are Loser Lad...
and finally, Cru (that's as big as CoH would let me make 'em )
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Wow! I must have been channelling Dolly Parton there! I feel like calling everyone lil darlin and puddin pop
Those look pretty cool, Vee!
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Today I went for a new design for a poster that not everyone might be familiar with: Beagle Boy. For those that don't know, Beagle Boy is a descendant of Bart Allen, also known as Impulse and Kid Flash. He shares the family connection to the speed force.
This costume draws elements from Impulse, Flash and Kid Flash, with a splash of Beagle thrown in. Once again, this is a new action pose for me, so please excuse any anatomical inaccuracies that you might see
Posted by Beagz on :
COOL!!!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong, I liked it with the verbal description you gave me. But it looks even better when you put it on paper!!!
I think I just found a new background for my computer!
Posted by Princess Crujectra on :
Glad you enjoyed it, Beagz. I try not to draw too many influences from existing characters if possible, but since yours is one of the few actual legacy characters in the LMBP, I figured I might as well pull from various Flash Family costumes and blend them together with a little something from the first Beagle Boy costume I designed many moons ago.

Don't worry about it Loser dear. Granted, I'd be thrilled to have you color everything I draw, but there's no obligation involved. Color if you get the time and the urge, but take care of the important things first. The pics will always be there if you want a distraction.

This is something I did at lunch today. It's an idea I've been kicking around for about a week now, but one that wasn't working right when I put it on paper. Then, today I got the inspiration to tweak a few lines, and then it all fell into place.
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you... Arachne!

Black Widow! Sort of a shiny look on the dress - looks like leather.
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Great pic, Cru! And now we get Arachne--awesome!
A very sleek look and one that looks like it'd blend well with the shadows, which I think fits Arachne perfectly!
And that backround is hella-kewl! It reminds me of old early 80's Spidey covers, which is definately a huge compliment!

OH. MY. GOD.
Awesome Awesome Awesome!
I have more pics to post, which I'll Hopefully get done tonight....
Posted by joeboy on :
Fat Cramer (not looking fat though...However I guess those boobies are pretty fat) Posted by joeboy on :
Loser - for this I just modified the same costume I used fo Lazon...The beard looks crappy, but thats because I dont really draw beards and only added it as an afterthought:
This is the first of the Arachne pics I did on friday..The other one needs tweaking so Ill post it later:
And This is an earlier Version of Kid Marvel:
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
Loser Lad,
I love the coloring you did on joeboy's drawing of me. Like Spellbinder, I loved the background and the starfield fabric.
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Lou, another awesome, kick-ass job! They all look great, and I’ll echo everyone’s comments on the Quis pic. I also like you coloring of Cru’s Kid Marvel too!
Joeboy—once again I’m blown away! I love the attitude in the Fat Cramer pic and the sly thoughtfulness of the Arachne one! You’ve already done a plethora of LMBers, where rawks beyond words! I see you’ve asked for requests, and I’m always willing to answer …
Kent Shakespeare Poverty Lad Eryk Davis Ester Lash Lad (MLLASH) Lightning Lad Nightcrawler Reboot Leap Year Lass Harbinger (a space-nun type one would rock!) Yellow Kid
Not sure if you know all these people yet, or what they look like, but I’ll try and find a link to that thread with pics of them all if you don’t! Unless of course, someone else can find it first…(hint, hint.). Hope that’s not overdoing it
Posted by joeboy on :
Lightnig Lad and Saturn Girl are coming,
Kid Prime is nearly finished
A better Arachne is on the way
and Lash should also be here by the end of the week
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Cru did a couple of great pics of Caroline and I back a few pages. I just wish Lou had time to color them. *hint, hint*
Posted by joeboy on :
Oh yeah...I have a Nightcrawler aswell But the anatomy on it is a little mong, So Ill check if I want to post it or not
I might need help With Erik D....maybe if I base it off his avatar? any suggestions?
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
I'd say base it on his avatar, but give it your own funky twist, like you've been doing! It should be tres cool! Can't wait to see what you've got cooking!
Posted by joeboy on :
See? I told you I could do a better Loser Lad! Posted by joeboy on :
Im not to sure about the pony-tail, but ah well...
And Can I just say...YAY! Geocities! Why havent I been using it all along?!?
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
I'd love to see a Sketch Lad by Cru or joeboy!
Posted by joeboy on :
Its Coming Its Coming I promise ...Give me till tomorow? again its just a costuming problem...though if you have any Suggestions, Im happy to hear them
Posted by Spellbinder on :
quote:Originally posted by joeboy: And Can I just say...YAY! Geocities! Why havent I been using it all along?!?
I just started using Geocities recently, and so far so good. I think there are daily or hourly download limits, but I don't think our traffic would break those limits too often. At least, I haven't noticed any problems so far...
Posted by Spellbinder on :
quote:Originally posted by Sketch Lad: I'd love to see a Sketch Lad by Cru or joeboy!
I've been toying with one off and on for awhile now. I have a general idea in mind, but have been having trouble making it work on paper.
Posted by Luna on :
joey-boy!
I'm in love. This stuff is awesome, I like both Loser Lads, though the one with the pony-tail is new and different, which I like.
Fat Cramer was sexy!
Thank you for the awesome Arachne (and Loser Lads).
The first design for Kid Marvel is nice, SHAZAM!
Posted by Caliente on :
Y'all have sooo much talent! Daaaamn~
I <3 it all!!
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Wow! Whining worked!!!
Seriously, I'm totally looking forward to these!
I've been kinda busy with other stuff lately, too, so I haven't had time for much LSH or LMB sketchin. I'll try!
Posted by joeboy on :
quote:Originally posted by joeboy: Its Coming Its Coming I promise ...Give me till tomorow? again its just a costuming problem...though if you have any Suggestions, Im happy to hear them
Or, just Give me a couple hours
Im leaving these uncolored for anyone who wants to play around with them...though Ill probably give them a splash myself...
I originally envisioned Sketch Lad with a Rainbow across his face ala Re-boot Colour Kid.
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Awww! So fun! Thanks joeboy! I've already done a couple thank you sketches of Kid Marvel. I'll have to scan them and post them later.

Yay, some dean art on the way.
Joe, I kissed the computer, I hope you felt it.
Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :
Awesome redesigns joeboy! you'd win Project Runway for sure but we can't seem to find Heidi Klum on Legionworld. Anybody have keys to Cobie's room!?!
When your hand stops cramping, could we maybe we can see a joeboyed Monkey Eater Lad ?
Posted by joeboy on :
Yes....Yes You Can. BUT do you want the Paul Frank Version or something different? the sketch is done...it just needs a costume. You're a little naked at the moment
Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :
Well nekkie or a joeboy remix - its up to you

If it makes you feel any better, Frio can have a chronic farting problem.
I kid, I kid because I love.
I'd never do that to Frio.
No, you know I love you, Cali!
Posted by Caliente on :
Sure, sure. *dry sob* Whatever you say.
Hey, notice that we've hijacked, like, two threads now? Go team us!

Hey, notice that we've hijacked, like, two threads now? Go team us!
Oh, no, the hijack police will get us.
You don't want to know what they do with hookers, which I am, I do this little bit dressed as a Barbara Bush...

Hey! HEY!!! I hijacked it first! its miiiiiiine...lol

Ah, I see, you use lotion.
Posted by Caliente on :
Of course. How else would I get my skin silky soft for you... and everyone else?
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Took a little time to put this together...
Thank you joeboy for the great Sketch Lad drawing. I like the costume a lot. I chose a very conservative color scheme for this!
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Now here we have a sketch of Kid Marvel... hope you like!
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Here's my buddy, Loser Lad. With the long hair, he may look a little like JC, or maybe Bo Bice. I tried this with yellow gloves, etc, and it just didn't work. So, dark colors reign...
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Next, the lovely Spellbinder. This is more of a portrait than a costume design...
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
And...a new Sketch Lad design...
Posted by joeboy on :
Rawk! Its weird seeing characters you've designed taken on by different people...
I was going to do something with a pencil or pen aswell...but couldnt figure out what. I might have another play around.
Posted by joeboy on :
This is a very rough work in progress...Im going to redraw it, because A: I need to fit Cali in, and B: Im not happy with either Frio or the founders at the top...I was working from memory though, and I think I caught it (I think its safe to assume you guys realise where I took my inspiration from ) Posted by Luna on :
DEAN! I'm so glad to see you posting pics!
I love your art!
I honestly can't pic a favorite, I like you new design, Cru's hot, Kid Marvel is a hunk and that's one fine Loser Lad.
joeboy: tee hee, I love it!
You guys are awesome.
Posted by joeboy on :
I did this in one those rare moods that I have where I want to be a little more Detailed....anywho, this is Semi-Transperant fellow, as requested by Quislet Esq.
for this one, as suggested by Cobalt Kid, I triiiied to stick to taking my inspiration from the Avatar, but couldnt stop the ruffles looking goofy...So I made them a scarf
Erik Davis Ester:
And Finally, Lash...I tried to stick to the MEL motif, but he ended up looking really sporty.
Also, As I finish these I add them to a big team pic that Im working on, where they look alot better...once its done, Ill post it
Posted by Faraway Lad on :
these are really great redesigns Joeboy, and i'm glad you got the hosting think sorted because a lot of them did not load for me until now.
Cramer, Arachne and the ponytailed Loser are my favourites of the last batch. But i think the Quislet is the best of the lot so far, especially with Lou's colours.
I know you got a lot of work on but a Joeboy re imagining of Faraway would be nice to see.
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
Very very nice. I like the waifish quality to Eryk.

Please note that the JoeBoy Wing of the LMBP Outpost Galleria is now up to 2 pages
I think I might redo Eryk...Im not happy with the face
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
joeboy, well both Eryk and I like it, so it can't be that bad.
Posted by joeboy on :
Well Thanks Im never happy with my stuff though...which is Typical of anyone I guess. Though, with Loser Lads Coloring...its like they arent my sketches anymore!...
In Anycase, coming tomorow will be Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl, and another Arachne.
Posted by Caliente on :
Wow. Sketch Lad and Joeboy have been busy bees!! I'm amazed and awed and whatnot!! ^_^ Props y'all. That's some awesome stuff.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
I did this at the laundramat last night (the first time I've sketched at the laundramat in AGES). It turned out different than my original design that I was having trouble with, but it turns out that's okay because I ended up liking this one much better anyhow
The first is the black & white, perfect for anyone out there who gets the urge to give it some cool color.
The second is just a quick pencil coloring, just to give some idea of how I envisioned the colored sections to be. The colors aren't set in stone... feel free to change them or rearrange them. This is mostly just to give an idea of where I saw color being and where I felt it should be left white.
Posted by MLLASH on :
quote:Originally posted by joeboy: I think I might redo Eryk...Im not happy with the face
No, no, no that is one SWEET face--! And the open shirt is TOO sexy!
Damn-- I like the sporty look for me! And Semi looks totally tits! I'm a sucker for floppy hair!
I'm going to have to go through this whole thread now....

Cru, you have never looked lovlier than in your current avatar, which I saw a couple pages back, drawn by you and colored by Lou! HOT!
Lou can really bring B&W pics to life, can't he? It's as if he creates... LIFE ITSELF. He's a mad scientist, man!
Dean, Loser "Bice" Lad is excellent!
Joeboy, your designs smoke TITS, man! Smoke 'em UP!

Actually, this will look awesome in the new production of "Loser Lad... Superstar!", currently in rehearsals at the Princess Crujectra Center

Thanks, Lashie Poo. It's a little more "Bad Girl" than I normally do, but it seems to have it's fans
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
I hope I'm an intricate part of the origin of that costume
BTW- love your Dean! Three cool pics of Sketch Lad by Dean, Cru and Joeboy--nice!
Love all the recent additions, and I'm glad to see Dean in the fray! Joeboy, you're art is blowing us away, if you didn't guess
At this rate, we'll have pics of a large portion of the LMB! Count me in as wanting to see a Faraway Lad pic, as well as a GiggleBot Girl one too!

A rabble rousing mission that I think we must abort.

I'm not going to sleep anymore, too much happens here when I do.
Joeboy, another great set of pics, Eryk looks great to me, Semi is sexy and Mllash is totally tits.
Spellbinder: That's fantastic, I like your coloring.

Really great pics from everyone!
Posted by Suddenly Seymour on :
Wow, I'm just awed by everyone's talent! Wonderful work!
Posted by joeboy on :
Soooooooo Ive been procrastinating on these next two because I wanted to make them just right. Now, when Quislet suggested them the other night I told him I was thinking of doing something corporate, what with Scott and Caroline effectively being the heads of this little company. Quis Said no, Definately not...So I thought whats less corporate then Jeans and a T-shirt?(I took inspiration from my AC/DC T-shirt:
Im reeeeeallly happy with Saturn-Girl...aside from the placement of the symbol on her chest I cant see anything I dont like on it:
Next, as promised, a better Arachne (the computer smooged her mouth :
And I absolutely loooooooove Crus' Sketch Lad, So I added one of those face maskey things that were so popular in the nineties (ala Havok in early X-factor days) and did my own version:
And Finally, Spellbinder and Crusader...at first I thought this might have been a little to intimate for brother and sister, but In the end I decided it was all very innocent....(sorry about th Xtina Aguilera makeup ) Posted by joeboy on :
So Ive also decided that the reason I hate my Colouring is because of my insistence on using markers and not pencil...so Ive rectified that situation.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Those are awesome, Joe! And we'll just pretend those are the Ultimates version of Spellbinder and Crusader
Posted by Spellbinder on :
I think it might explode soon from Overfilling
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Well, it's almost up to three pages in just a week
Posted by Caliente on :
Wow Joeboy!! Awesome possum.
They all look amazing... *stares in awe*
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
Joeboy, I like how you gave LL & SG necklaces with the other's emblem. nice touch.
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Cru and Joe, thank you for the wonderful drawings of Sketch Lad! I've actually got a little collection going now.
For the longest time, I was just lurking at this thread, enjoying the show, but it sure is more fun participating! Thanks again!
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
You're overfilling is keeping us LMBers very happy! Love, love, love these! Scott is looking as cool as the other side of the pillow and Caroline is looking all funky/cute-hot! The Jectra twins are looking cutting edge, and I'm loving their smirks.
Arachne looks super-cute with the spider and arm behind the back, and I'm loving your Sketch Lad! Cru, you really designed a cool costume there! I like the head-gear too (one of the few cool cutting edge trends of the 90's!)
Posted by Luna on :
Joeboy!
Thank you, I'm so glad you posted them...
I love them all!
Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl are just amazing, Sketch Lad was perfection.
Arachne and Crusader (and Spellbinder), THANK YOU!
Posted by Spellbinder on :
I was so happy with Joe's redesign of Crusader that I tried my hand at it. I wanted to do a male version of Spellbinder's new outfit, but wasn't quite sure how to go about it. Joe nailed it for me

Posted by Spellbinder on :
Here's my attempt at a re-imagining of Faraway Lad and Gigglebot Girl. I had no clue whatsoever how to draw GiGi, so I just flew by the seat of my skirts. I figured feminine-type robot might work. Hope it's okay!
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
From someone who has seen the real Gigglebot Girl, you have captured her to a T.
Posted by Faraway Lad on :
Wow!
A cru original of me and the better half.
Ta ever so ever
I love the folds of the cape. As for Gigi I love it. I tend to see it as battle armour (a bit like Shikari's I think) with a real live girl underneath.
Posted by Faraway Lad on :
Joeboy
I have to say this
is one of the sexiest and sassyist Imra's I have seen in a long time.
Seeing her like this makes me reminber why I her.

Glad you enjoyed it, Far. The only reference I had for her was that LMBP Comic that you posted, where she was wearing this plaid housedress. I decided to go a different direction, and kinda made her the love child of Jocasta of the Avengers and Platinum of the Metal Men
Posted by Luna on :
Crusader:
Love the Faraway Lad and Gigi pic, Spellbinder!
Posted by Luna on :
Sketch Lad:
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Cool coloring on that Crusader micro, Viv!
Cru- I love that Faraway and Gigi! Wow, what a dynamic! And I love how Faraway looks like possibly the most heroic of all the LMB.
Posted by Luna on :
These next few micros are amalgams of LMBP and the LSH!
I tried to come with creative names, but I only got a few, Dreambinder, Space Girl or Super Tart, Shadow Light or Moon Lass.
Here's Spellbinder mixed with Dream Girl:
Here's Space Tart mixed with Super Girl:
Here's Luna (Moonlight) mixed with Shadow Lass:
Here's Harbinger mixed with the White Witch, I gave her blond hair because of the old Laurel avatar she used to use and the gray robes becuase of the Nightwind avatar she used now:
Here's Frio mixed with Saturn Girl:
Here's Caliente mixed with Phantom Lass:
Posted by Caliente on :
Wow.Those are awesome!! I love the Space Tart/Supergirl one!! The color scheme is so fun!! And Spellbinder makes an awesome Dreamy!! I'm a fangirl already.
Btw, how did you know that I love Tinya? I thought I hid it reather well... makes me reminicent for my old bell bottomed jeans...
Anyway, great job!! Can't wait for more.

You could do boys next... like Cobie combined with Rokk, LASH with Tenzil, Eryk with Jan, etc. etc. Oh! And wasn't there a Spider Woman once upon a time? What about her with Archane...?
Just ideas from a sleep-deprived Caliente. Ignore at will.

Next up is Monkey Eater Lad...I was watching Gen 13, so I was a little inspired by Grunge...If I wasnt such a Lame-Arse drawer Id Spend more time on it and add a background with lots of super cool Techno junk. But I am a Lame-Arse Drawer, So I didnt. It also needs Colour Posted by Joey-X on :

Arachne:

Updated JoeBoy's LMBP Outpost Gallery Wing again, adding his last couple of LMBP sketches and Loser Lad's coloring jobs of JoeBoy B & W's
Posted by Caliente on :
Wow Joey -- you did an awesome Kat!! Major props!!
Posted by Loser Lad on :
I made a few subtle changes to this (besides the obvious, like the background ), hope you don't mind...
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Yeah, that background is certainly subtle
You know me, Lou... I give you free reign to add whatever you like to my images
It looks great!
Posted by Loser Lad on :
I didn't really think you'd mind, but it sounded better than "I changed a few things and you'd better damn like it!"
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Actually, it works out well. You fixed one thing that I noticed afterward: I forgot to add Far's left arm wrapped around GiGi's back. And the addition of his cape behind her works out much better as well
Posted by Loser Lad on :
I actually had to force myself to take the high road there and show Faraway's elbow bent and his arm on her back, instead of trying to grab a handful of metal. I know which way the real Darden would have chosen to go with that opportunity.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
This is something I did at lunchtime today. It's based on a Captain Marvel Junior pic I saw many, many moons ago. Since it's a new pose for me, and I'm going by memory, I make no guarantees that it looks anatomically realistic
It also features my design for Kid Marvel. I tried going for a casualish design like Joe did, but even more so.
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
Neat how you used the edging of the cape for the lightning bolt.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
That WOULD be neat, except there isn't a cape... it just looks that way
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
oops so there isn't.
Posted by KidMarvel on :
Neat! I like it : : I might have it made and wear it out Clubbing
For this, I drew the pose before I decided on who the Character was going to be, and it just evolved into Cali, in Naughty Catholic School-Girl Attire:
Next, A better Lash - I wasnt at all happy with the previous version, and I hate the Green-yellow colourscheme (its an Australian thing) so I kept it to a minimum...anyway, this one has that certain Titness I was looking for :
And Finally, Resisting the Urge to colour it because I can only think Pink, I give you the Dread Pirate LAM: Posted by Spellbinder on :
You may not like the color scheme, but Lash's costume has a certain Tenzil Titness to it that's sure to please Lashie Poo
And Cali looks like the Catholic Schoolgirl from Hell! Don't piss her off
In my mind, I will paint LAM's costume pink... just because
Posted by Caliente on :
quote:Originally posted by Spellbinder: And Cali looks like the Catholic Schoolgirl from Hell! Don't piss her off
Yeah!! Ph34r me for I will smite you!!
Seriously, Joey, you are my hero!! And the Kid Marvel is awesome Cru.
Once more, the talent here astounds me.
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
I think the costume should have some pink in it. And then it can be a Trading Spaces moment when the person who said "I hate (insert color)" sees the finished rooom with that color and still likes it.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Or we could just cover the costume with newspapers and feathers and have a Hildy Trading Spaces moment
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
I’ve decided with all this rampant creativity, there should be an ongoing adventures tag thread once more to chronicle the LMB! Well, for at least this term!
I’d be a lot more fun if there were like, say, 10 to 20 people pitching in…

I think a Visi-Lad/Cosmic Boy type hybrid, with a focus on your eyes (and eye powers) would be cool, Vu! Of course, the artists could feel free to tweak it as they see fit to make it more original...

That sounds cool. I like that idea.
Now I have an idea if anybody would like to help me out. Take Cosmic Boy's Legionnaries style outfit. Swap the purple for a dark green. Get rid of the circles and replace wiht eye symbol -sorta like the omac symbol but wiht the certain eyes being sorta like a whirlpool. Short selves instead of long. Wrist guards on wrist. I want to be green like Visi Lad but with black hair and a beard/goatee-nicley trimmed. Also I want some cool rectangle framed glasses that are geek cool to show off my vision powers.Smiliar to what Kent Shakespeare wore in the TMK legion days...
So, anybody want to helpa brother out here? Please!

This is my interpretation of Invisible Brainiac. I don't think it translates well, but he's supposed to be pressed up against a wall. I thought about giving him wristbands that had technostuff in them, and then figured why not just incorporate the buttons and stuff right into his gloves.
Of course, a photo of the real IB would have given me some sort of realistic reference for face and hair, so I just went with a Lyle-kinda thing, figuring maybe his skin would just be green like Brainy's

...and Loser!! You've been busy man. Thanks for the inclusion on the comic cover. Even if I'm not 'back by popular demand'...
Anyway, I just wanted to say that you're all astounding 'n' stuff. 'Cause... yeah. You are.

Glad everyone liked the Adventure cover. I was planning on just making a LAM logo out of the old Adventure logo to put in the background of the pic I colored, but once I got that far along it all just kind of snowballed into a full-blown cover mock-up. I'm just sorry I couldn't fit more of you in there. Maybe next time...

I realize that I've already designed like 2 or 3 costumes for Cobalt Kid, but here's one more.
This image was inspired by the cover for X-Factor #1. I've tried doing this pose before, but have never used another image for reference, and as a result have never been very successful with it. However, when I saw this pic, I immediately thought of Cobie. So, using the original as reference, I started sketching out this pic. Once I got going, I got the idea for this new costume, and decided to just go with the impulse.
And, in keeping with my attempts at adding backgrounds to my pics, I decided to put him in his security office
Posted by RTVU2 on :
Nice! Cobie looks almost respectable here. Though we all know the truth.

Raven I'm glad you like it. I was trying to decide if the slit up the dress was too high
Posted by Vee on :
Take away most of the hair and that looks like a typical pic of Vee, raised eyebrow and all
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Glad you all enjoyed it. I was concerned it wouldn't look good, because in all honesty it only took like 10-15 minutes to sketch it and another like 15 minutes to ink it. Of course, that's about how long all my pics take to do, but there was more to this one than usual

Wow Cru, that's an awesome picture. Seriously, I'm hella impressed. (Jamie/X-Factor-ified rules!!) Cobie should be proud!!

Got a couple more done. Here's Cru's Disaster Boy.
Posted by Loser Lad on :
This one I'm pretty happy with. Great pose. Well done Cru!!!
I was going for kind of a Levitz Era Science Police thing with the costume. Still works well with Cobie's usual color scheme. I was tempted to Photoshop in a bra strap hanging over the back of the chair, but I resisted the urge. We all know what really goes on in the Security Office...
Posted by Loser Lad on :
Aaaand, as it happens sometimes while I'm coloring something I get inspired to do something a little different with a piece. Cru's latest Cobalt Kid was one of those. The setting, the pose, the look on Cobie's face.
So, anyhow, long story short here's the retro-hip Cobalt Kid Film Noir Remix.
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
To say I'm loving it is beyond an understatement. These are by far my fave Cobalt Kids EVER!!!
Love your first coloring job Lou! My ego might be getting in the way here (not that that ever happens), but I want to say that this is the best Cru/Lou team-up job ever! It just fits all so well, and colors bring out so much more in the picture! And I think that's my favorite costume yet!
As for the film noir--I'm speechless. It's too awesome for words. I love how you made the blinds closed too--a really cool, subtle touch. As a big fan of film noir/detective stories, I absolutely love it. I think I'm going to put that in the first post of the Security Office thread.

I've got to say I agree with you there! I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Glad you like it Des! I couldn't help myself. I had to do it! It just fit so well with the picture. When I was coloring it I kept thinking how much Cobie looked like a young Robert Mitchum in the drawing (add a cleft chin and it's dead on), and it just kind of rolled from there.
The blinds were a given for a Noir look (although I'm still a little disappointed that I couldn't figure out a good way to cast a blinds-shadow across Cobie himself). I made a couple of other subtle changes, like taking out the computer monitor and adding a Noir-cliche burning cigarette in his hand.
And I was going for a neon sign effect with the name. Not sure it that comes across as well as I would have liked. If the file size wouldn't be ridiculously huge I'd have made it into an animated .gif with the sign blinking on and off. But maybe that's getting a little too carried away...

Posted by Spellbinder on :
Loser, those are just AWESOME!
I love the new background in the Disaster Boy pic (I wasn't really happy with the background in the original).
And the two Cobie pics look incredible! I love the new cityscape you added (much better than what was there and much more in line with what I wanted). The thing I like about your touches are the fact that they enhance what was there without really changing what was drawn.
The film noir one is just awesome. I never would have thought of it, but you are right that it lends itself very naturally to an old Sam Spade type photo. I should have drawn the trenchcoat Cobie costume instead
And I must admit that the Cobie pic definitely is the best Loser/Cru collaboration thus far. In fact, it's now displayed on my desktop
Posted by Loser Lad on :
Thanks for the kind words!
As far as the background stuff goes, I've said before on a couple of occasions that I'm really not happy with my background coloring. I usually just alter and chop together elements from pics I find on the web, which is what I did with the Disaster Boy pic. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The lightning was from a pic I snagged off the web. I modified the colors so it looked more pinkish and threw it over a cloud filter layer. The rubble he's standing on was from a separate pic, and I pretty much just cranked the brightness way down and added a little shading. It turned out way better that way than anything I would have been able to create from scratch.
For the cityscape in the color Cobie pic I used a piece of an old computer generated wallpaper (created by someone else, unfortunately I don't remember where I got it or who created it) that I had saved on my computer. Incidentally that's the same cityscape that I used for the background of one of the Justice Circle cover mockups I did for your drawing of one of Viv's characters a few months back. In that one I modified it so it came out blue, like the city at night time. That one's back a few pages in my gallery if you want to compare the two.
Anyway, I'm really glad you liked them Cru!
Posted by Spellbinder on :
The wood grain on the desk is a nice touch, too

Okay, I am the very first to admit that I am no kind of artist. I know this looks like something drawn by a six-year old, but this is my first representation of Rockhopper Lad.
The gold bands at the shoulders, the red triangle on the chest and white diamond on the abdomen are meant to be an abstract representation of a rockhopper penguin.
If anyone cares to embellish this in any way, please feel free.

Well then... how's this?
Here's where my inspiration came from: I looked up "rockhopper penguin" on Google, and got a couple of images. Now, the funky looking eyebrows are kinda like what the penguins have over their eyes... feathers? Eyebrows? Then I tried to mimic the abstract penguin you did for the chest insignia. The white section of the costume is meant to give it a more penguin-like appearance. Now, I imagined you having something that would allow you to move penguin-like across arctic conditions, so I figured that your boots could sprout either little skis or flippers.
I hope the pose is okay. This is yet another new pose for me, so I make no guarantees that anything looks exactly right
Posted by Caliente on :
Oooh, he kind of reminds me of the current Hourman (whose costume I ) without the hood. ^_^ Awesome possum Cru~
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Oh yeah... that's why that seemed so familiar to me when I was doing it. I was just thinking that the forearms and shins needed something to offset the black
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Cru, I think this is another one of your best ever, and a ton of that has to do with the dynamic pose you've got him in, and the diverse way he looks (facially and costume).
I feel like you're hit a Silver Age or something with how dynamic your pics are getting!
Rokkhopper Lad suddenly has a very original feel to him!
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Tanx, Cobie Cakes. I'm definitely trying to branch out more, both in poses and backgrounds. I spent such a long time using my "stock poses" that I feel my art was becoming very stale. Even though they all looked different, they still felt very same old-same old to me.
I've collected a wide range of artwork off the web that is giving me reference material to use so that I can start widening my range a bit. The Rockhopper pose came from a George Perez drawing I found recently. I used that to get a basis positioning of the figure, and then used my other research to expand on that linework.
Originally I had him hopping over a rock (clever, huh? ), but as the picture progressed I decided to modify that to doing a sort of ski jump. I thought that might make more sense in the whole "penguin protector" angle
Posted by Luna on :
Nice job, Spellbinder! Rockhopper looks fabulous!

I like your drwaing style, don't ever get overly hung up on anatomic realism, that's something for medical illustrators to get worried about.

You mean something like this?:
Just for clarity in the black and white (should anyone feel inspired to color this ), the midriff is bare, as are the arms (the shirt is short sleeved. I imagined this skirt/wrap thingy (it probably has a name, but I don't know what it is ), but didn't want Raven to flash people while flying, so I added leggings underneath for propriety.
Colorwise, I'm imagining white for the raven insignia, and maybe white & very light blue for the costume. Very skyish colors. Of course, the hair should be white, but maybe with some light blue streaks as well?
Hope this is okay!

Oooh Joeboy... you really outdid yourself here!! Tamper looks awesome and Reboot's all cool and Kyle'd out. I it!! (Kyle's da man~)
And Cru!! Your pic is really amazing as well. You've outdone yourself this time... really, really great stuff.
As always, the talent at Legion World has left me in awe.
Posted by Loser Lad on :
JoeBoy - Nice work on those two. And don't worry too much about the arms. Style goes a long way to make up for anatomical accuracy (or the lack thereof). Just ask J. Scott Campbell or any number of other "hot" professional artists.
Jeckie - Sweet White Raven! I'm sure someone will be inspired to color it sooner or later...

Well, don't be in too much awe. Once again, I used another pic for reference, and then modified the pose a bit. I was more comfortable with the figure than the wings... I've only attempted wings on a few rare occasions

Joe-lovely stuff, your work is a phenomenal!
Spellbinder=you always been a great artist, but lately (the last year or so) has really just been out of this world, love seeing your art.
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Luna, I love the micros you did using my designs! I want to do a picture of you in a very ornate ensemble, for some kind of ritual or formal affair. I'm pleased with my sexy Caliente design so it flatters me that she's using it for an avatar and you made a micro from it!
White Raven, I've been sadly dissatisfied with the sketches of you, that I've done. When I get it right, I'll post.
Yes, joe and Cru continue to impress with their work here and Lou is colorist supreme. Can't wait to see the Rockhopper Lad and White Raven pictures in color.
Posted by Rockhopper Lad on :

This is yet another new pose for me, so I make no guarantees that anything looks exactly right
This is fabtastic!
Thank you!

I did lots of sketches of White Raven. I was influenced by Raven from the Titans, Mysa and Dawnstar from the Legion, angels (in general) and the name Kat. Also, Jeff Moy's art was in the back of my mind. Well, I don't know if any of those influences actually show in my final idea, but out of everything I sketched, this is what I'm willing to show...

Well, I had already done a High Priestess Viviane pic, but I hadn't done a Luna pic, so at lunchtime today I decided to give it a whirl.
The bustier (I know it's spelled right, but it still looks like "busty-er" to me )is supposed to be like a starfield pattern, but that didn't turn out quite like how I might have liked. Perhaps some talented (and hunky) colorist out there will feel compelled to fix it ). I'm picturing the skirt and sleeves to be white, but shimmering somehow. Of course, the hair would also be white.
Oh, and I don't know how clear it is, but the necklace is supposed to have a crescent moon pendant on it, with maybe like a pearl or something in the center
Anyhoo, that's about it! Hope ya likey!

Well, Since I *am* Sketch Lad, my drawings are usually just rough sketches, which are only meant to bring the rough idea of what I was thinking to the screen. So, when you take that rough idea and take the time to render it so nicely as a micro, it kinda finishes it off. You take the idea and run with it, sorta. Either way, it's a fun collaboration!

Yay, Luna Micro'ed one of my drawings! When I was playing with the coloring, I 'negative' flipped it and thought it looked kinda spooky - it looks cool as a micro too.

Glad you liked it, Cal. I had a couple of different setups in my mind of how I might do this pic. This one worked better, only because the figures would be bigger. I left the scan a little larger than normal, because the background is a little busy in black and white, and I was afraid shrinking it too much would make the pic hard to view.

Okay... so this was done at the laundramat last night. Everyone got new costumes, cuz frankly I couldn't remember what anyone was supposed to look like
Pagan Lass I had no clue about, so I decided to go with a sort of tribal kinda thing. I'm thinking maybe some kind of suede material or something for the dress, and the boots aren't so much boots as decorative shoes... the calves on either side of the band running up the shin are bare skin.
Abin Quank I knew had a power ring, so I went for a Green Lanterny sort of outfit.
For Space Ranger, I went for a sort of Science Police/Star Cop kinda of outfit.
Stoopid Cat... well, I'll be honest, I have never drawn a cat in my life, so with SC I went for a cartoony look, and the eyes looking in different directions and tongue hanging out was my attempt to make him look... well... stoopid The "S" emblem clasp for the cape represents both his name and a sort of Kryptonian/"can do anything he doesn't know he can't do" thing.
Anyhoo, I hope it looks okay!

Bravo DB, a unique style that actually is better than what I could manage in my doodles.
I usually stuck to geometric patterns. Then in grad school when whe had Internet connections at our desks, i switched away from art completely.

let me try caliente(right) and frio(left)

Posted by disaster boy on :

Posted by disaster boy on :
you should tamper! sketch on!
Posted by legionadventureman on :
Hey DB how did you post your sketches here? Did you draw, then digital photo them and then transfer the pics in the Project Runway thread?
All i can do is doodle "creatively" to go with writing my own Legion stories.
Posted by disaster boy on :
drew, scanned them in, used imageshack.us to host them and posted that link here..

w00t!! I like your sketches DB -- they're soo fun. ^_^ Frio's hair makes me happy. And Caliente's scowl... hee!! I'm overly entertained.
And Dean, you're too hard on yourself!! The amalgams look awesome to me... of course, I might be a tad bit biased... Still, props to you!!
And, Cru -- that was defintiely the portrait to end all portraits. Seriously, I can't believe how amazing it is. All the pieces just seem to... fit. I'm totally floored by your skill.
Posted by Luna on :
Spellbinder, that picture of the Quanks is stunning!
Dean, thank you so much, I love it, it's wonderful!
Disaster, those are lovely, I hope to see more from you, you've got some great stuff, and thanks for doing pics of me, that's really sweet of you

Did you just call Jeckie a cur?
And yeah, duly noted Vu. I have a pile of things waiting to be colored, and that's one of them. I'll get to 'em all eventually.

Invisible Brainy's new clothes!
Notice the stylized "IB" logo and three dot Brainy headband - predicted to be all the rage in Milan 3006 (or what's left of Milan).

If anyone is interested, the Spellbinder Gallery has been updated

That was kind of the point, wasn't it?
Seriously though, I just colored the trees and shaded a bit to give them a rough shape and threw a picture of leaves from an actual tree over it (set to either 'Color Burn' or 'Multiply', can't remember which off the top of my head) to simulate actual leaves. It's a bit of a cheat, but it beats the hell out of trying to actually color the individual leaves one at a time.

Thanks, and to you as well!

I'll pretend I know what that means, and that it's a good thing. In the States 'grouse' means to complain. It's also a type of game bird. Kind of looks like a pimped-out chicken.

I'll get on it as soon as I can Abin!
Posted by Spellbinder on :
This is something I pencilled last night after chat, and then inked today. Nothing fancy, but I was experimenting with poses and stuff. In case you can't tell, the LMBPers present are Kid Marvel, Cobalt Kid, Spellbinder and Invisible Brainiac. The big robot is just a big robot.
Hope you like!

It is rather less impressive when you see it all explained like that. I guess that's why magicians never reveal how they do their tricks.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Luckily you still impress me with your other tricks, Loser dear
Posted by Loser Lad on :
That's good. Too much "sleight of hand" and a guy could go blind you know.
Posted by Tamper Lad on :
Now Loser, you know that's just an old wives' tale. On the other hand there's good scientific evidence that "sleight of hand" as you call it, is good for health.
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Spellbinder, very nice action shot!
Posted by dedman on :
finally got around to inking this one
Posted by Faraway Lad on :
Deddy, Now this is nice. I particulary like the different expressions you manage to capture on the faces.
