*Prologue*
As the LMBers left the Super-Jailhouse of Space and began their journey home, laughing and joking among friends, no one seemd to notice the slight smirk on Eryk Davis Ester's face...
Less than an hour earlier, EDE, having aborbed the power of countless alternate versions of himself, had neared complete apotheosis, total power to reshape the universe according to his every whim. The LMBers had defeated him, like they had many a would-be cosmic tyrant, but too many mysteries still remained for them to remain comfortable with their victory for long.
EDE sat restrained in the holding cell onboard the LMB cruiser. While the rest of the LMBers celebrated, Shady periodically checked in on the prisoner. She more than anyone was concerned about EDE's sudden turn to the dark side. He had always seemed like such a nice boy, with a kind of innocent naivety to him that made recent events completely inexplicable.
EDE's twin brother Lardlad was a founder of the LMB. Shady remembered that he too had been much more shy and restrained when they first met, and she had watched him gradually lose that innocence, and her empathic powers made her all the more sensitive to the pain and turmoil that increasingly seemed to envelop Lardy. EDE's turn to darkness seemed much more sudden, almost desperate in a way...
