Also in #306, the Subs are too late to help the Legion stop some creatures that escaped from the Ocean Research Laboratory, but they did stop the Plant Men!
In #307, we meet the mad Roxxas, but also the tame Camera Eye Kid. (I named him that, he didn't have a name, apparently...)

I've drawn lots of pictures of Element Lad, but never Mystery Lad!

Lots of material from Adv #308...

In #309, we met Rainbow Girl and we learned that there's Barakian Living Money...
Posted by deanlegion on :
Posted by deanlegion on :
We also met the Jungle King and a Borlat!
Posted by deanlegion on :
Stay tuned for the Legion of Super MONSTERS!!!
Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :
I wonder if Barakian living money is releated to Venusian Walking money?
Great as always, Dean!
I especially love the Plant Men and Jungle King/Monster Master. Can't wait for the LSM!

These look great as usual, Dean!
May I borrow your Jungle King for my Legion APA? He's one of the topics of our next mailing. What perfect timing!

Once again, some tryly great sketches, Dean. Very nicely done. This thread gets a big thumbs up!
Posted by MLLASH on :
I keep going back to that Jungle King pic...
Dean, I realize you might perhaps be better known for your hot-babes artwork, but MAN!
That's gotta be one of the sexiest guy drawings ever ANYwhere!
The face, the hair, the HANDS.... *fans self*
Anyway, you have certainly proven that you are equally skilled at drawing guys, aliens, etc.!
Your sketches from the ARCHIVES threads are a favorite of mine!
Posted by deanlegion on :
Thanks guys! This project is a lot of fun for me. I'm drawing things I never would have considered drawing before, which really adds to my experience. It's so great to do this stuff and post it, and get responses. Before the internet, I didn't have ANY contact with other Legion fans. It's really cool to share this stuff with people who get it.
Lash, we've "known" each other online for years now, but not in real life, but I feel like you're a great friend. I really appreciate it when you take the time to respond to an image (or 20) that I post. Thank you very much.

I wouldn't go that far, but great work again Dean. The colour really brings out the muscle structure.

Glad you guys like him! I'm getting a kick out of how these minor players from the deep past are now so popular at Legion World. They're characters I never would have thought about drawing otherwise. LLL!

I'm so excited by this thread, I've pulled out my archive in anticipation of what we're going to see next!!
Things I'm looking forward to: Satan Girl! Alaktor! Sun Woman! The Puppet Planetoid!! Mystery Raiders! The Mount Rushmore of Space!
Posted by TriSaber on :
Wow! He's almost got a Neal Adams influence on him. And the colour looks fantastic. Great job! Mind if I use this thread as reference material for some of the Legion's more obscure characters?

You got it, EDE! I've already done all the sketchin' now it's time to scan, decide on coloring (or not coloring) and posting. I think because the Monsters really *should* be in color, they'll take longer to finish. Once that's done, though, the rest should come through in a flood...

Thanks for the nice words!
I'm trying to get all costuming and characteristics done correctly, so hopefully, it won't steer you wrong if you use my work as reference.

The Super Spinner Beast above was actually rejected from the LoM, as was the following...
Posted by deanlegion on :
In Adv. #310, the Legion faced MASK MAN, who was actually Mr. MXYZPTLK 5! Along the way, Vi was on Doll World, and came across AK ARU, one of Mask Man's victims.
Not the best plot description, but y'know, I'm more about the pictures...
Posted by TriSaber on :
Terrific sketches, Dean. I especially like your takes on thr various wildlife of the 30th century.
Posted by Arachne on :
I was watching The Future is Wild the other night, and some of those creatures would fit right in.
Posted by deanlegion on :
I'm baaaaaaaaack!!
Here are some sketches from Adv 311...
The robot at top left is the Subs' Defensive Robot. The Subs came to think of it as being rather "primitive" when compared to the device shown at top right, the "Force Vortex." The FV is capable of no less than "destroying anything." (!)
The "monstrous machine" at the bottom of the page was used to attack the Subs.
The aliens in the middle of the page are the natives of Zyzan. Their motive was to strip the Earth of it's rare ores, but they were defeated by the mighty Legion of Substitute Heroes!
Posted by deanlegion on :
Adv 312 was the story where Lightning Lad was revived from the dead. Tarocs give birth to a new body when their old one dies. Those space serpents attacked the Interplanetary Post Office. The androids shown below were used to test the way the Legion ultimately revived LL. I dunno. I wouldn't trust something that worked on an adroid to do the same on a human. That just shows the courage of the Legionnaires!
Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :
Wow, this really makes me want to read the Adventure run. You've totally brought these characters to life!
Posted by deanlegion on :
Thanks, IB! I have more done, I just have to find the time to scan and give a blurb about each...
