Darn so far I see I forgot to add Veilmist on 5YL/TMK.
Posted by Blacula on :
I voted -
Heroes/Friends:
Calamity King Color Kid Devil Fish Doctor Zan Orbal Gas Girl H'hranth Infectious Lass Life Lass Nam Lor Rainbow Girl
(Though I must confess I didn't know who some of these characters are - I just thought they sounded interesting.)
Villains:
Ben Pares Dagon the Avenger Doctor Mayavale Grimbor Hunter Kantuu Nardo Prince Evillo Quicksand Sugyn
(Would love to see all these villains come back!)
Dead/Out of continuity:
Beast Boy Charma Chemical King Hate Face Invisible Kid (Lyle) Leeta 87 Thora Weight Wizard
(I don't necessarily want to see any of these characters come back to life but I'd love to see them in flashback tales or reference to them somehow in present-day ones.)
5YL/TMK:
Catspaw Cera Kesh Computo II Dragonmage Grinn Laurel Gand (Andromeda) Plaid Lad X Bomb Betty
(Would be great to see any or all of these characters make a return!)
Reboot:
Blast-Off Cannus Jeanne Chu Kid Quantum II Kinetix Konk Lume Magno Nara Minsork Tangleweb
(SO many great Reboot characters to choose from!)
Threeboot:
Dream Boy
(I would've chosen NONE but since I had to choose one - this character fascinates me for some reason.)
Other:
Fortress Lad
(I would've chosen none here too but Fortress Lad will do to complete the question.)
Teams/Alien Races:
Amazers Athramites Bacard Bailey Circus Dark Circle League of Super-Assassins Taurus Gang White Triangle Work Force
(Not sure how some of these Reboot concepts would work in the Retroboot, but I like 'em anyway.)
Posted by Set on :
The teams / aliens category needed to be cut into two questions, I think, as I found that category the hardest to pick from, contantly getting the little pop up telling me I had gone over again. As it is, I ended up ignoring the alien races entirely, because there were so many cool teams to choose from!
It will be neat to see the numbers change as more people vote.

Thanks for the comments guys, I've done a couple of polls here on Legion World before, but never one so big, my thinking was the Legion is the biggest and the best group in comics, so why not do a poll that reflects that, I tried to make sure I included something for fans of every continuity.
I do see in hindsight that I left out a few characters like Veilmist and Lester Spiffany, if you can please post any characters you notice that I should have included.
The Poll comes down at midnight 01/01/2011, hope every one comes out and votes, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Also, you were missing Dead Earth Phase, Graft, Shape, Shift, Lodestone, Magnoboy, Argent, and Silverwing.

I don't think I saw Chlorophyll Kid...
... but two votes for Animal Lad! Woo-hoo!
Posted by Quislet, Esq on :
Some, I didn't take the whole number of votes. But on the team choice, there were more that I would have voted for.
Posted by Lone Wolf Legionnaire on :
Chlorophyll Kid and a bunch of other characters have been seen recently, I was kind of going for the ones that have not been shown for sometime.
Posted by cleome on :
It's embarrassing how few of these I even recognize.

There's only one character I REALLY want to see whom we haven't already; Shvaughn Erin (or Sean Erin if Levitz decides to go with that but I'd prefer Shvaughn to be honest).
OH, also it would be cool to see Inferno pop up somewhere again; not necessarily in the Legion (though she might make an interesting Academy student), but just...somewhere. She's still in the 21st century, right? If we could trust the Titans not to get her killed, they'd make a good home for her!

Great quiz, LWL... very comprehensive.
I found it hard to limit my 5YL choices, as I'd really like to see all of those characters again.
The two characters on your list I would love to see again are Quanto and Mystelor of the Taurus Gang (but not as villains). At the end of the Adventure era tale, it felt like their story was just beginning, and I've always been curious where their travels took them.
Quick question... who is Brotlbex? That's the only reference on your list I've never heard of.
Posted by Lone Wolf Legionnaire on :
I found Brotlbex in The Legion Companion, listed as an unused Giffen design, heres the picture of the character I colored.

Evolvo Lad, Gas Girl and Life Lass have awesome powers! Duplicate Boy is flat out *too* powerful (and seems to be written as a colossal doofus, to mitigate that somewhat). And Beast Boy? Yeah. They can't all be awesome.
quote: For Threeboot I chose Elysion. [/]
I liked Elysion, although, between him and Terra, it seems that earth-manipulators in DC are more than usually prone to raving psychosis... I once, just to be perverse, retconned him as the magically-conceived child of Mysa and Blok, in the classic continuity.
Theena, Sizzle, Dream Boy and Turtle were my top picks for the Threeboot. I considered Gazelle, but figured she'd get plenty of votes without my help, and I liked her better in her first alien appearance, to her later 'generic human redhead' appearance.
Posted by Candlelight on :
I picked a lot of Lallorians, too. And a couple Wanderers.
The Lallorians have been so ignored over the years and I haven't a clue why.
Posted by googoomuck on :
I could of swore that I voted for Gazelle but from the totals I see that I didn't.

Life Lass powers are similar to Selene's from the X-Men, so I'm surprised Life Lass hasn't been used more. I also like the heroes of Lallor because I grew up with X-Men. I think the Lallorians suffer because of uncreative naming.

I actually like that idea, could you provide me with a link? I wouldn't be surprised if some Legion children looked at the universe and said, "They are worms and we are giants. We deserve to rule."
Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :
Am I the only one who voted for Tiffany Cross.
Posted by Candlelight on :
Probably. I don't even remember who she is. Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :
In the Reboot, she was a psychic from the 20th century who had a part to play in Jo and Tinya's romance subplot. She confronted this bogus swami who conned her grandmother out of all her money, then Final Night happened, she hadn't paid the heating, and Tiffany's grandmother died. The swami had Phase's stone (like the one Apparition had) and it was causing havoc. Apparently, getting blasted by it gave Tiffany the ability to see ghosts.
Posted by Candlelight on :
Oh, I vagely remember her now! A black girl? K. Got it!

Yep.

I never wrote it up as a fanfic, I was just tooling around with Mutants & Masterminds, making a 'legacy' team of Legion children. (A teenaged Graym, plus sons of Ayla & Brin, Chuck & Luornu, Lar & Tasmia, Gim & Yera, and Brainy & a test-tube, and daughters of Nura & Thom, Projectra & Val, Jo & Tinya, and a pair of non-identical twin kids of Jasmin & Rokk (I used her instead of Lydda, although Lydda also existed in this continuity, which was way more classic than reboot) and a genderless energy creature spawned by Shikari & Wildfire through dubious means...
In that 'verse, the magically-inclined worlds (including Talokk VIII, but not Orando) had more or less seceded from the UP, and formed a smaller counter alliance led from Sorcerer's World. Elysion's parentage was unkown to the rest of the universe, due to the sparse contact between those worlds and the UP, but he was a local hero to those worlds, travelling from world to world via mystical portals they'd set up to foster inter-planetary trade amongst themselves.

Note to Paul Levitz:
BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL KARATE KID, and be quick about it!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure to get my wish now since I asked so nicely eh? Posted by KryptonKid on :
But, for Rao's sake, only bring back one of the original Karate Kid's. Things are confusing enough as it stands.

I love the Legion Legacy characters and stories. sigh Wouldn't the various combinations make a fantastic series of Elseworld stories? Alan Farmer and Mark Davis. DnA+Coipel. TMK. Visions of Legion babies danced in her head.

I loved this poll. Nice job! I too admit not recognizing some of these characters (XTC of Kingdom Come? I'll have to look that up), but seeing the names of others made me smile.
Good to see Gear, Kinetix, Infectious Lass, the Heroes of Lallor, and the Wanderers (the original ones, I hope) getting lots of love.
Wild prediction: The Brain Globes of Rambat will get a big surge at the end of the day.
Happy New Year, everybody!

Thanks Kid Quislet,I tried to include someting for every one, it took quite a while to type all those names in twice, once for my master list and then for the poll.
For the most part I was going for characters that have not been used by Paul Levitz as of yet, those from the original continuity and all those from alternate realities that are not duplicate characters.
As much as I tried, I still missed a few characters the biggest one being Shvaughn Erin who I assumed Levitz had used since his return, as I have not been able to get Adventure Comics on a regular basis.
And I'd like to send out my thanks to all those who came out and voted, Happy New Year!
Posted by future king on :
You are MORE than welcome LWL. This is a fun thread. Happy New Year to you and everyone else on this fine fan site too!
i just wanted to throw in here that while I really like Shvaughn I'm not quite ready to have her and Jan just "pick up where they left off" now that Paul's back writing the book. I hope Paul has other plans for these two ... but I certainly don't mean < The Death of Shvaughn Erin> or anything like that. I just want her to be back as the supporting character we all love, but not really connected to Element Lad now. He has a different path to go down I think. There's lots of other people and events that Shvaughn could be a part of in the Legion. Shame she wasn't chosen as the new Green Lantern. That would have been great now that I think about it!

Pleased to see Theena getting plenty of love too! (20 votes). And if I counted right, Kinetix ties for 2nd place. Yeah!! Posted by Lone Wolf Legionnaire on :

Looking at the totals, I'm struck by how much we here at Legion World love the ladies. From Levitz's voting totals, Legion fandom in general seems to vote almost exclusively for the menfolk, assuming that his vote totals are indicative of the overall percentages.
Of the Heroes/Friends that got over 10 votes, we picked six out of eight women. Of the villains that got over 10 votes, two out of three are femmes fatale. TMK/5YG? Five out of seven. Threeboot? Three out of five. And the worst result, in the 'Other' category, was still 50/50 for the two characters who got more than 10 votes.

I still think it would be fun to bring Kent Shakespeare into the current Legionverse but not as a member. Have him be the Legions doctors new assistent. It would make sence that the doc would like having a superpowered assistent around when dealing with injured Legion members.

IMHO, the old FF has been done to death. Besides, Tharok and Sarya are dead and Validus has been turned back into Garridan.
I can't really see Mano or Persuader having the leadership skills to start a new FF, but maybe somebody else could do it with or without them.
Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :
quote:Originally posted by jimgallagher: IMHO, the old FF has been done to death.
I actually agree. And they've been done pretty lamely since the 60s. Give 'em a rest for about a decade, and then bring 'em back as scary as they were in their first couple of appearances.
Posted by Lone Wolf Legionnaire on :
Well the old Fatal Five have been gone from this Legion's continuity for more than a couple of decades now, ever since Tharok vanished with the Darkman back in the 80's
Posted by EmeraldEmperor on :
I'd really like to see Charma and Flare return. Oh, and Quicksand, who first appeared as a lackey of Pulsar Stargrave. Has anyone mentioned her?
Posted by jimgallagher on :
Hmmm. Lust, Fire, and Sand. Could be some pretty nifty ingredients for a new FF. Who else could we add to make it an all bad girl team? Mystelor? Maybe she could use her mental powers to keep the other girls from killing Charma. Need a powerhouse for a 5th I think. Titania springs to mind, but she's pretty lame, imo.
Posted by Future on :
Perhaps this new, bad girl FF could be led by the new Satan Girl? At the very least privately funded by Thora of Taltar.
Posted by EmeraldEmperor on :
Esper Lass could help reign in Charma's abilities. For raw power, how about a Sklarian? Aren't they strong?
Posted by Kid Quislet on :
I wouldn't mind seeing Glorith lead Flare, Caress, Quicksand and Esper Lass in a new Fatal Five, but it looks like Emerald Empress will 'return' soon, so she would be the best bet.
I forgot how Tharok died. Last I remember he faced off against Mon-El in the DnA version.
In an unrelated comment, if Levitz and Giffen were to team up again (after the upcoming LSH Annual #1), I would like to see them do an Omen story. Yeah, really.
Posted by jimgallagher on :
I think Glorith is too powerful and arrogant to bother teaming up with anyone. Use them as pawns maybe . . .
I think Tharok died in a duel with the Darkman, who was a clone of himself. They sort of canceled each other out or something.
I don't know anything about the new Satan Girl. Does she have Supergirl's powers again? She could be the powerhouse member if so.
Posted by Set on :
There's a new female Persuader in the 21st century. Perhaps Tribulus will be outed as a female of whatever species she is (sort of like how Strata was), and they'll hook up with a new female clone of Tharok and Mano's never-before-seen sister Pedo (who can only disintegrate stuff she kicks or steps on) to form the new Fatal Five?
Anywho, a return of Charma could be interesting. The Legion is stacked with very powerful male heroes, and the ladies getting to kick their butts (during the inevitable fight to free them from Charma's control) might be a fun reminder that the Legion ladies aren't pushovers.
Posted by EmeraldEmperor on :
This is a bit off-topic, but with Sensor Girl and Saturn Girl both gone, the Legion could def. use some more powerful women. But the girls vs. boys being controlled by Charma.....I'd love to see that!
Posted by Kid Quislet on :
quote:Originally posted by jimgallagher: I think Tharok died in a duel with the Darkman, who was a clone of himself. They sort of canceled each other out or something.
True, but later on Tharok reappeared with better tech upgrades thanks to Robotica/Computo. He and Mon-El wrestle above earth and through the atmosphere, etc...
quote:I don't know anything about the new Satan Girl. Does she have Supergirl's powers again? She could be the powerhouse member if so.
The latest appearance of Satan Girl was in last months' Supergirl Annual. A Brainy-5 chronal experiment miscalculation brings her to 31st Century earth from some demonic dimension. I guess you could say she is an all-powerful would-be conqueror with supernatural powers.
Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :
It's pretty easy to bring Tharok back. They did so 5YL, with the explanation that Leland McCauley founded him trapped in another dimension.
