OK so we know that the Legion will be featured in the new origin series...but the previews of Lana Lang in peril got me thinking!

Do you think we can expect a reappearance from Lana as Insect Queen?

It's the sort of thing that might appeal to Johns and his need to retcon all of DC history.

There's a pic of Insect Queen on my blog. But you'll all have seen her before!

Kurt Busiek introduced a new Insect Queen based on the adult Lana in his run on Superman. There was no mention of the SA Insect Queen in that story but since the continuity is still ever evolving I wouldn't say it's out of the question.

Busiek wrote it in a way so I guess the SA Insect Queen could still be around...there was nothing definitive that there was no SA Insect Queen, but there was nothing definitive that she was either.

My overall impression at the time was that there was no SA Insect Queen, but that was during Busiek's run and not all of his run is cannon near as I can tell.

The SA Insect Queen was fairly essential to the story that introduced Mordru and since that is one of the all time classic tales that introduced arguably their greatest villain, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

I personally think the Insect Queen is a pretty cool concept, and is probably not one that should be thrown by the wayside whether it's Lana or not.

As a huge Insect Queen fan, I would LOVE to see this happen!

What IS it about Lana Lang Insect Queen anyway...?

Maybe it's the red hair and the yellow/black outfit with the bug-wing cape... she just looked unique.

Also, I adored her sexy almost-nerdy horn-rimmedish glasses-mask.... HOT!

And she really took on the insects shapes and abilities and even their thinking.

She'd tear at webs and things with her Lana mouth and everything! She wasn't thinking like a 'girl' at all.

When I was a kid, I found her a little creepy.
(Unlike Spiderman who didn't act like a spider much at all. He just had spiderlike abilities.)

She still gives me a bit of the shivers.
[Shudder]

The Busiek character wasn't really a proper Insect Queen though was it?

It's not like Lana can become Insect Queen.

That character was just your bog standard alien space invader villain that happened to have an insect form and pestered Lana Lang.

She was like some hive queen space insect whose physical appearance was modeled on the adult Lana...I think she even copied some of Lana's DNA...but no, she wasn't the Insect Queen proper at all outside of the name. I wasn't particularly fond of the entire thing especially since no mention was made of Lana having ever been Insect Queen during that storyline. Was sort of a nice homage in the form of a villain but that was about it.

I'm as much for the Lana Insect Queen to be back as you guys are...and not just because I like the character(as I pretty much like all that stuff), but because she did play an important role in that Mordu story.

And Lash is right...Insect Lana was hawt in her own unique bizarre way. It definitely was the costume but also because I think Lana was Curt Swan's favorite character to draw, she always seemed to stand out when he drew her. IQ has awesome powers too.

Wasn't it sort of implied that some of the bug queen's DNA was also implanted into Lana?

All of your drawings have some much charm and appeal, LASH!

I'm not sure who people are refering to when they talk about 'another' Insect Queen.

I just know the original and the one in the reboot who was one of the Xanthu heroines.
That's the one who appeared with Starboy and Umbra in the Shadow crossover, right?

So, who's the evil Queen?

Candle,

The evil Insect Queen being referenced was a story in Superman, issues #671-673. She was an alien queen who duplicated Lana's DNA for a more human form. I believe she tried to seduce Superman to create Superdrones or something like that...

Any Smallville based stories can't have happened as shown in the SA because Superboy hadn't gone public in modern continuity.

Therefore in the Mordru story, Lana and Pete would not know who Superboy was if he turned up in costume. The story could easily be rejigged to have the Legionnaires flee to Smallville with Clark Kent and actually that kind of makes the story more plausible. Lana being Insect Queen would presumably then be retconned out as well.

We'll find out in Secret Origin whether Pete knew Clark had powers before he went public. I hope so because that is key to the Mordru story and gives a good deus ex machina for future young Clark Kent stories.

That's not exactly true about Superboy.

In Adventure they show Superboy in his costume in Smallville, with Krypto in the 20th century. Flying right in front of the Smallville sign.

Right after IC it was stated there were sightings of a mysterious Super-boy in and around Smallville around the time Clark Kent was a teenager.

Does this mean it was exactly as it was in the Silver Age? No, but it doesn't automatically mean every story happened in a completely different way either.

And none of this stuff is set in concrete yet...IMO.

The thing is, it's so complicated sorting out this continuity that they don't want to state anything definitively IMO until they know it's not going to paint them into a corner.

Big huge improvement over the Crisis when, after it, they stated the way everything was and then shortly found out a great deal of what they said was, made absolutely no sense.

I've seen Johns initially screw something up on one of his contunity fixes, then turn around and fix it later when he realized it didn't work, usually with just a line of dialogue. Again as opposed to DC's past philosophy of saying something was, then when it didn't work, keep insisting that it worked, or reboot it.

More importantly, Lana does know Clark Kent is Superman in this continuity. She also knows who Supergirl is and Supergirl's current secret ID is Linda Lang.

And Pete Ross I believe knows he's Superman too, although I'm not 100% certain like I am with Lana.

The details of how and when they learned haven't yet been revealed.

I still say the Mordru story could have happened though...remember when they erased Lana's memory at the end of it? They could do the same thing to everyone in Smallville that saw Superboy.

[Eek!] and [Disgusting] and [Shudder] !!!

Thanks for the information, guys!

Is this why Lana's been going to a doctor and waiting for test results, because of that insect DNA?

And here I thought she had cancer or something!

That reminds me of 'Species'.

If I were a Queen insect type I don't know if I'd want Superdrones.
They might decide to become demanding and well, Kings!

[Insect Queen]

!!!!!

THAT'S even a little creepy.
