Anyone rich enough to have gotten this?

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

I saw this at the WB store in Sandy, UT before they closed up shop but they would not mark down the price on it like the other items. It was, and still is, just too rich for my blood. Hell, my copy of Adventure #247 didn't cost as much as this print.

Still waiting here for the $50 cheaper-lithography, rolled-poster, unsigned-unframed version. I think they won't resist such a money-maker forever.

What a gorgeous piece! And the print isn't bad looking either! [Wink]

Seriously, looks great Matthew. Maybe I can talk Caroline into letting me get it for my 40th birthday. 3 more years to go so I should be able to save for it.

Would anyone know, by any chance, where one may find one of these things to purchase? Maybe they'll have one at San Diego...

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

Unframed - $649.99

Framed - $849.99

Both in stock!

Posted by rokk steady on :

*gasp*

Thank you, Lightning Lad, thank you!

Posted by rokk steady on :

Aaaaayyyyiiiiiii!

I *just* now ordered the unframed lithograph online (I shall choose my own frame, thank you very much)!

I could kiss you LL for making it so easy! I had no idea where to look (didn't know it was a "lithograph," didn't know Alex ross had his own online store - although I SHOULD have known that one)!

Thanks again, LL!

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

You are more than welcome rokk steady. I'm just surprised they still have some.

You'll have to let us know when you get it and how it looks in living (so to speak) color.

Posted by Greybird on :

I noticed that this offering of the litho through Alex Ross's own preferred outlet does not say that it will be signed by him, as was the original offering through WB Studio Stores.

It's curious, in that he's apparently not doing so -- and in that if he is doing so, or routinely does so, it ought to receive mention on that site.

$650 is still, I fear, at least $450 too much, even for an unsigned, unframed litho of this quality. I still await the $50 poster that will be of merely superlative printing quality, not eye-poppingly astounding quality.

the print that i have is classed as an 'ARTISTS PROOF' and it is signed and numbered 11 of 50 .....

i got mine from 'WARNER BROS' and i had it re-mounted and framed !!

i'm not sure if the re-mount and frame would have any affect on the selling price ???

not that i'll EVER sell it though !!! so i don't really mind .... [ but it would be interesting to know ?? ]

Matthew.

congrats !!! and getting the print, you'll have to post a photo of you with it, when it arrives ....

Matthew.

Posted by rokk steady on :

Yeah, it's gonna be 4-6 weeks before it arrives, and then I have to get it framed, but I'll post a pic eventually. Not that anyone would be interested in seeing it, but I'll have to share my giddiness with *someone,* and who better than the members of Legion World!

I bought mine shortly after they became available. The gallery guy at my Warner Bros. store was a Legion fan, so he would keep me up to date on Legion stuff -- though that turned out to be the only thing before his store closed.

I tried to get #247 of the edition, but he couldn't swing it for me.

Aaaah, thank you, Ultra-Matthew, for reminding me why I am happy to wait for this... of course, I guess mine won't come with one of *you* standing in front of it, so I hope I'm not too disappointed. [Wink]

And, no, guys, it still hasn't been shipped. I emailed the place I'm buyin' it from and they said it's ordered from a different distributor, blah blah blah, and there's nothing they can do to speed it up. I'm kinda at their mercy...

Ah, I'm zoning on details now.

It was either in a recent interview or he said it during the San Diego con.

If I can fish out the quote, I'll post it here.

And the original painting hangs in Ross's house!

I finally own this! Sorry, don't mean to rub this in anyone nose, but I'm exciting to finally get a hold of a copy.

[Mad]

Nah, I'm thrilled for you... [LOL] [Hug] How long was the trip from SD to Anaheim?

Posted by superboymddjr on :

the trip from SD to anaheim is not that long...only less than 2 hours if not being stuck in traffic congestion. roughly around 1 and 1/2 hours.

hey Night - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! so thrilled that you got the poster. I someday will get one once I move out of condo and buy a new house. *finger crossing*

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

The trip to Anaheim was quick. The trip back was filled with traffic making it almost twice as long. But, it was better with the Litho in hand.

Worth every penny!

Is the mat on yours white as it appears to be on the ebay photo? Mine #186 signed and # in front has a black frame and mat. Just curious [Smile] size of mine 28 inches by 53 inches framed.

[ September 04, 2010, 06:58 PM: Message edited by: adamwe ]

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

The black frame is 27.5 x 53.5 inches. Mat is whitish black.

The actual print is 18 x 43 inches with 457/500 and Alex Ross' signature at the bottom.

Copyright DC Comics 1999.

Interesting, mine has a black mat, didnt know it was offered with a white one lol [Smile] I bought mine from a WB store in NJ when they were openned.

Nice acquisition, Nighty! Your link to the picture says it's Stan Lee Superboy & LSH. What does that mean?

Regardless, congrats!

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

It means the seller didn't know what he had. Hence the sweet price tag.

Lucky bugger! [Mad]
LOL

Posted by Director Lad on :

Having a copy of this would be pretty cool, but what I really want is the two-story banner version that Ross hangs behind his booth at SDCC.

Posted by Pov on :

That's easy, DL... just have Quank with you next time... [Wink]

Posted by cleome on :

Just made the mistake of clicking on the other stuff for sale at that ebay site: the one that included Nighty's print.

[sigh]

NO! Just... no! I'm less than fifty bucks away from finally paying off my effing credit card!!

[sulk]

(I'll get you for this someday, Nighty...) [Mad]
