Walking muffins? Raining Cats and Dogs? A building with googly eyes? Brainy in the box. That can only mean one thing...magic. And where there's magic there's either Mordru, White Witch, Dragonmage, Mxyzptlk or someone else.

In this case, it's a young kid that looks like Mxyzptlk wearing a Brainstorm type helmet. If I heard him right, he said his name is Zix.

Yay, mention of Zerox and a cameo of Triplicate Girl.

Phantom Girl's mother, Winema....still as opinionated as ever. Hey and she's called Tinya!

The alien creatures with the vertical mouths from "Phantoms" (btw, they also look like Bizarro's "Krypto" from Superman Adventures) are running amok and they have names...Comet and Cupid.

Ouch! Lightning Lad gets turned into a rat! Bouncing Boy goes splat...literally! Quick! Someone get a 31st Century spatula!

Our little friend is prone to temper tantrums and doesn't want to go back to Wizard's World because there are too many rules.

Superman finds out (albeit the hard way) that he's vulnerable to magic.

Triplicate Girl gets a citation for illegal triplicating.

Phantom Girl has to box a giant rabbit.

Zix's outfit turns from looking like Mxyzptlk's into looking dark like Mordru's outfit. Whoa baby, he just when all dark purple Mxyzptlk like "Whatever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow?"

hee hee but there was one character that caught my attention - he looks like Mordru! I wonder if we are gonna see him again in the near future. ? ? ?

overall the episode was hilarious.

After the preview of this episode, I feared that Zix would be really annoying, and he was, but the constant action made the story work. In fact, he did some funny stuff that evoked a few chuckles outta me.

Tinya was great on Zerok(?). One of the council members was totally Mordru, no question!

I tend to prefer the episodes with more characters or different characters, but this one was just fine. No complaints.

Looking forward to next week, with Cos and Ferro Lad and Colossal Boy.

Yeah, I noticed the Mordru Easter egg, too. Neat.

Zitz or whatever they called him was just plain irritating and predictable, though.

Lightning Rat? Ugh. But Superman realizing his vulnerability to magic was well done.

The best part was Zerox, with the thousands of Triplicate Girls and Phantom Girl wading throuh the medieval beaurocracy. Good to see Prez Wazzo again, too.

Some very decent parts but not quite up to par with previous episodes. I can see why the started the Feb. sweeps with Brain Drain instead.

A green hat with wings..he he..gotta be Mordru...and since we call my 6yr old "Ratboy" we thought Lightning Rat was very appropriate (LL's his favorite character).

I think the Super Pets ought to induct a new member [Big Grin]

What I've noticed while watching LoSH, scratch that, any show, is that it seems like whenever there's a really great episode(The Substitutes)there's always a let down episode waiting just around the corner(Child's Play).

I'm not saying this was a bad episode,(nor did I really have high expectations for it)I'm just saying that they could have done better with it. Although I did like the Phantom girl parts and how Superman discovered his weakness to magic.

And I don't care what anyone says, Bouncing Boy rocks!

I liked the use of Triplicate Girl, but I want to see her used more prominently in an episode.

I also noticed the Easter Egg of Dr. Fate's helmet.

And Awesomegirl, Bouncing Boy bounces. Stone Boy rocks! [Wink]

So does Rokk Rock while Bouncing Boy Rolls?

Hey that's right!
Fate's helmet and iirc a GL's power battery.

That's the one I saw but forgot while posting.

BTW, How are you doing YK?

Hey, wasn't there an old issue of Adventure where the Legion met a descendent of Mxyzsptlk? I thought this episode was an homage to that old story.

I noticed Dr. Fate's helmet and the lantern and... the EYE!

This ep was much better than I expected! Yes, Zyx was annoying, but what omnipotent magical imp, isn't? I was just delighted that he wasn't a descendant of Mxy, but a renegade from the Sorcerer's World. It was a great, low key intro to a place that could have a big impact in the future. The bureaucracy of magic was funny, and logical, and Mordru as the belligerent council member was great. He's totally the Antonin Scalia of Zerok(?). I always enjoy the Winema/Tinya interractions, mainly because Winema ISN'T a clueless, vindictive bitch but a concerned, thoughtful, but very busy mom. In other words, more of a real person. Look's like some real tension next week. In this Legion, Rokk and Garth aren't best buds, anymore at least.

I was expecting to dislike this episode but I ended up loving it, not least because Tinya saved the day. I also really enjoyed the multiple Trips constantly blinking, the giant rabbit with boxing gloves, Lightning Rat, and a bunch of other stuff that's not coming to mind right now.

This episode was a delightful, Silver Age-style romp, featuring a magical villain, some silliness, and some unexpected twists. Once again, Phantom Girl saves the day.

Zyx's helmet threw me off. It looked very familiar. It reminded me of Hector Hammond's, I believe. I expected the helmet to the source of Zyx's power, but it apparently wasnt.

Zeroc? Zerok? The change in pronunciation is understandable, as the Xerox people might object. It was portrayed as a place straight out of "Alice in Wonderland," with surreal characters behaving in surreal ways.

After the substitutes which I thought was one of the best this was a definite letdown.

Posted by Tamper Lad on :

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. I loved the weirdness of Zerok. I especially loved head wizard hitting on Winema at the end.

Can we say that she's being portrayed as a 'Single Mom' and successful career woman.

I thought the episode was okay, but definitely a big drop off from the coolness of the previous two episodes.

The massive destruction being caused by giant Zyx rampaging through Metropolis kind of annoyed me. I guess it was all supposed to be fixed at the end, but I kept thinking that tons of people must be getting killed.

While I liked the basic idea of Tinya going to Zerok to negotiate for their help, I didn't think it was all that well done. The bureaucracy jokes just all fell flat, and the whole war/surrender sequence didn't work quite as well as intended either.

So, I guess that all in all I just felt like it had a lot of potential, but lost somewhat in the execution.

I don't remember Hector Hammond ever wearing a helmet like that, but one of my favourite D-List JLA villains, Brainstorm, sure did. That's probably who you're thinking of HWW.

I agree with EDE on all his points re: this ep. I thought it was a huge drop-down in quality after the previous 2 or 3. But since its a hold-over from back when this series was extremely average/below-average (the first 3-4 episodes) I can overlook it since I know the show has gotten a lot better since then.

Your boy has good taste Art. [Smile]

Indeed!

And I'm in agreement with everyone that the other wizard on the council was Mordru. I checked the credits, but only saw the high-up muckity-muck wizard listed there. I was hoping to see Mordru's name in the "voiced by" section, just to confirm.

Definitely not as good as Subs was, but it had it's moments!

Now, next week looks to Rokk, literally! [Smile] [Smile] Can't wait!

Over on the ToonZone message boards, someone said that Zyx's helmet reminded him of The Master (from Superboy 205 - anyone got the issue and a scanner handy?). I thought it looked like Brain Storm too.

OmniCraig - Mordru was listed as "Evil Wizard" in the credits. He was voiced by Richard McGonagle, the same guy who did the High Elder wizard.

Next week is the last new episode until the 2-part season finale in May.

Posted by superboymddjr on :

what?!? we have to wait until two months to find out the finale?!? oh that's a real torture!!! argh!

I remember reading #205 - but the problem is I left it in the storage. [Frown] That's the cover showing Lana Lang and Ultra Boy in chains and being aimed by four or five legionnaires ready to fire them to death....something mindcontrolled...?? It is a 100 page giant....the third story involved Pa and Ma Kent trapping Mon-el and Superboy...and the second story - can't remember - ???

or maybe it is in the Legion Archives #12 or #13....who knows?

WHAT?!? We're one episode away from the finale already?! How many episodes were there in this season? It's gone by so fast! I need more S&tLoSH!

US cartoons have a 13 episode season. US TV offer 22 episodes per season. Most Anime on Japanese TV offer 20-24 episodes per season.

Posted by Blacula on :

Thanks Tekwych. I had thought US cartoons were like live-action TV and Japanese anime with around 22 episodes per season.

I guess it makes sense that they'd introduce Ferro Lad in the episode before the finale if the rumours of what that 2-parter's storyline is going to be are true.

It could never really live up to the standards set by the last two episodes, but it was okay for what it was.

I really did want to see the White Witch, tho!

Posted by superboymddjr on :

but we saw only 9 episodes this year, right? does not make sense to me....where are four more missing episodes?

I've got my fingers crossed that they're not going to follow the original *too* closely -- I'll be pretty ticked off if they introduce Ferro Lad just to kill him off two episodes later. .. *very* ticked off.

Posted by Malvolio on :

Well, yeah, but remember the original Ferro Lad first appeared in Adventure #346, and died against the Sun-Eater only 7 issues later.

What a drag it is getting old, confusing Hector Hammond (big head) with Brainstorm (big hat)! Thanks for the correction, Blacula.

Yup, already read the spoilers. [Frown]

At least I'll be able to say I saw him animated; as well, maybe we'll see a twin brother in the future. [Wink]
