Since we have a promo clip and a preview clip already available for next week's episode might as well get the ball rolling and not get the comments for Brain Drain all mixed up with Lightning Storm.

Below are the links provided by Suddenly Seymour (in the Brain Drain thread) for the clip and preview to Lightning Storm.

I love the LSV set up. We're not going back to the Legion of Super Villains but we get the Light Speed Vanguard instead. This should be good.

Also we have an Animated LSV thread here

I'm really looking forward to this episode because I really like the idea of seeing as many characters as possible in the series.

Posted by Tromium on :

I bet LightSpeed Vanguard is just a phoney name the LSV use to trick LL into joining them. They got the right acronym, at least.

Posted by Malvolio on :

They never actually call themselves the Legion of Super-Villains in the episode. I have a feeling that if they are called that at all, it will be the media that gives them that name, sort of like the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the X-Men.

Love seeing CB and more Lu!

And we get the Subs! Yeah!

ok wasn't to crazy about them portraing Tyr as a "B.A.M.F" Mr.T type. and at first i though that Ron Karr was Chameleon king. (i though all Ron Karr could do was make himself super-thin?) but i did like seeing Gim even though he wasn't around for long and of course seeing Invisiable Kid 2 gave me a Saturday morning "Joygasim"

The best part of this episode was spotting all the characters at the Legion try-outs, seeing Lu again and seeing her and Chuck connecting.

The worst part was the ridiculous giant squid at the beginning. Why didn't Saturn Girl try to control its brain as Esper Lass ended up doing? Are you telling me Superman can't break free of some undercooked calamari? Or Lightning Lad?

I don't think the LSV needs Hunter AND Tyr...kind of redundant but I liked Hunter's Aussie accent...not so much Tyr's accent...which sounded like Shaft. Why not just have a black character?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Well, I liked all the characterizations! This episode was just what I hoped. I didn't know the Tryers Out would be there this ep, so I was thrilled to see Infectious Lass and Plant Lad and all the Subs. Porcupine Pete even had lines! Breath Boy was SO funny! Classic! We even got to see another Lightning Beast and Lil Ayla! Thrills!

I agree that the Legion did come across as Super Lame fighting that squid in the beginning. They could have shown them mess up some other way. But that was fine. The later battle made up for it. They really do a great job with the action sequences in this show!

Big thumbs up from me! Can't wait til *next* week, with the try outs!

Each ep is more enjoyable than the last.

Posted by Malvolio on :

At first, I had the same problems with the giant squid, but then I figured that Saturn Girl and Superman could have gone all out, but they didn't want to hurt an animal who was only following its nature. The LSV, on the other hand, would have no qualms about hurting or even killing the creature and wouldn't hold back, as Imra and Clark may have been doing.

Clips are now up. Including a preview of next week's episode courtesy of Kids WB.

[EDIT: Now they should work. Screwed up on the names of the files.]

Thanks, that works for me; that was the only complaint I had about the episode (well, other than Gim's part being too "small"), so thanks for fixing it. [Wink]

I missed the episode. Was Ayla actually in it?

Only in the origin flashback.

It was awesome to see Chlor, Fire Lad, Color Kid, Polar Boy, Infectious Lass and the rest again (I saw Stone Boy and Night Girl, but they didn't get as much face time as the rest)! And whoo! More Triplicate Girl *and* Bouncing Boy *and* they introed Colossal Boy! It's just so much goodness all at once, I'm gonna go into shock!

Being a fan of oddballs like Porcupine Pete and Ron-Karr and Spider Girl, it was neat to see them as well, even if they weren't exactly the way I remembered them. (I'm cool with Spider Girl having different colored hair, so that she looks less like a copy of Marvels Medusa, regardless of which character came first...)

Another episode full of LSH treats! I thought the LSVers were well-done & liked the twist on their motives. The surprise preview of legion try-outs was a moment for television history. Minor quibbles: Not especially thrilled with seeing the Ranzz origin agian, but it was kept nicely short & let us see Ayla. Also, reaffirmed my feeling that the legion cruiser is an overwrought design.

This episode was *everything* I ever hoped for in a Legion cartoon! Could it possibly get any better?

Maybe next week. [Big Grin]

My Blog 9 review is nowposted.

BOTTOM LINE: Simply the best episode of the Legion cartoon so far. Cool fights, competing super-teams, family feuds, teen-aged romance, and Legion applicants. This one had it all, and did it all well. Yes, THIS, is what I had most hoped for in a Legion cartoon.

Sussa's blue hair and "Wave" code-name come from the "Legion On The Run" storyarc shortly before the 2boot. What did strike me as odd was calling the LSV's shapeshifter "Ron-Karr" instead of "Chameleon Chief".

Was Tyr voiced by the same actor who's playing Timber Wolf? They sounded very similar to me.

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Tyr was voiced by Khary Payton, the same guy who voiced Cyborg.

Timber Wolf is Shawn Harrison. He was Waldo on FAMILY MATTERS.

When is this episode gonna be on Youtube!?! I'm dying to see it again.

Tossin' in my two cents... great ep! I really dug the bits between Triplicate Girl and Bouncing Boy, and Brainiac 5's "bake sale" joke was probably the line of the show. I like how they set things up for the next ep with the try-outs... oooh, I just know that one is gonna be awesome. XD

The more I watch this show, the more I really like Lightning Lad. He's got a lot of development potential and the way they're handling things, there's more to him than we were shown at the start...they're just going little by little and it's the kind of thing I expect out of a good animated series. I also like the fact that, slowly but surely, they're building respect up between LL and Superman. What went on between LL and Saturn Girl was also a nice touch, I can definitely see the authorial intent for the pairing to head towards canon where the animated version is concerned.

An oh, TIMBERWOLF. He's rapidly becoming my second favorite. I didn't like him too much at first, but the guy is way too much fun to watch. (Plus the fangirl in me now thinks he has sexy feet and legs after his intro shot in this episode. LOL. Oh, brick me...)

I'm just impressed that CW is showing them in the correct order. [Big Grin]

And as for YouTube. Posting these episodes is, technically, illegal and YouTube is under a lot of pressure to pull anything that is copyrighted.

Posted by Michael Grabois on :

Tekwych: actually, they're NOT in the correct order. The one we saw last week ("Brain Drain") was episode 1.09, "Lightning Storm" is episode 1.08, and next week's show "Substitutes" is actually 1.10. Episode 1.07, with a young magician who may be Mordru, will be the last of this bunch.

In fact, you might recall Superman saying that he knew magic could take his powers away, but he didn't know about the red sun. He was referring to the events in 1.07 which we haven't seen yet.

The first three were broadcast in order, but the next three were shown as 1.06, 1.05, 1.04, and this month we have 1.09, 1.08, 1.10, and 1.07.

Don't see it on YouTube yet, but you can download the torrents at either [Links removed] or [Links removed].

I just meant Lightning Storm and Substitutes will be shown in correct order. I can see CW running them in reverse even with such obvious references within the shows. The magic statement could, IMO, be missed by a network screener easily. To reverse these would have been stupid.

Wonder what order the DVD will have? Script or Air date?

This episode is on Youtube, YAY!

Anyways, this episode is great, although I didn't think so the first time I watched it, mainly because Lightning Lad is my least favorite character, but I think that's going to change because of the amount of depth they gave him in this episode. And some other notes....

Timberwolf just gets cooler and cooler by the episode, like the part where he just came out of nowhere and suggested a stake-out. Awesome!

The Subs? Yes.
The Flashback? Hell yes.
"Now that's what I call matter over mind!" That line was total cheese, but Saturn girl pulled it off for some reason(not to mention she kicked ass too). Let's hope the writers don't go overboard with lame comebacks and such. One of the things I like about this show is that they hardly use any bad puns, the fight scenes speak for themselves.

Let the Bouncing Boy/Triplicate girl shipping begin!

Great episode, and loved all the cameos! I think what I really liked about this one was that on top of the usual episode action there was the added fun of hunting all the 'Easter Egg' characters. I've been taking screen shots of episode so I can check out character designs for manips.

Okay, you are my hero of the day, now. I was having trouble finding the most recent eps in non-hi def format and now I can get them! (And for me, it's not really just for re-watching because I tape the eps on good ol' VHS every Saturday. Nah...I still have hopes of making a music video...)

People...

I hate to be a wet blanket here, but we should NOT be promoting illegal dissemination of any copyrighted work.

Nightcrawler and others have worked very hard to build good relations with DC, and I for one would hate to see this site - or Nightcrawler - fall prey to a pack of hungry attorneys.

I just noticed something. In the Korbal flashback, the Ranzz siblings all have dark colored eyes. I gather the lightning beast not only turned Mekt's hair silver-white and gave Garth his scar, but gave them (the boys at least) their bright electric-blue eyes.

I was pleased to see another entry in the Legion of Lightining Beasts of Korbal. I still intend on corralling all the various designs into a single collection sometime.

I liked this episode! The show's definitely getting better.

Gim was totally wasted though. Can't believe they didn't even show us him using his power! Bring back Colossal Boy!

Yeah, I thought the use of Colossal Boy was the one weak part of the show.

Apologies...

Well, hopefully, Legion will get released on DVD in a timely manner. For one, I've been fully supportive of the DC cartoons series we've liked; my fiancé and I have already bought season 2 of Teen Titans on DVD, as well as seasons 1 and 2 of The Batman. (And if I can find season 1 of TT, I'll get that, too!) If stuff's out there for me to get on the shelves, I'll go get it. [Wink]

speaking of DVD, which season that Legion appeared in JLU? Season two or three? I think that JLU Season 2 is out ???

Posted by Tekwych on :

JLU 2 is out next month but the LSH are in Last season.

Edit - Did some research - This is the last season of JLU, the LSH episode should be on disc 4 of this set.

Loved this one. The latest two shows have been the best(Subs!).

I guess I relate to LL here. Why can't the Legion be cooler? [Wink] I love Garth and Brin in this series.

It seemed like they picked some of my favorite villains here. After the Fatal Four(i hate tharok) Tyr, Mekt, Orion and even Esper Lass are my faves!

The writers are doing a good job getting the message across without being hokey. I will now by the dvd just for the last two episodes.

I love Sussa and the code name Wave, she was my favorite legionnaire in The Legion on the run saga.
I miss Lydda, Polar Boy and Fire Lad in the Subs too.

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

I enjoyed this episode more this week, seeing if for the second time. I liked the Space Cafe... it'd be nice to see more scenes set here or somewhere similar.

I was hoping Wave would turn on the LSV with Lightning Lad-- mainly because she had no lines and I could plug in whatever motivations for her I wanted.

I didn't catch any wateriness to her hair, but I'm intrigued by that possibility. If Ron Karr can get a drastic upgrade, why not Wave?

Esper had more personality than any of her non-Ranzz teammates. Maybe she and Mekt will form a more traditionaly nucleus for future LSV's?
