I don't know EDE, the brain in the jar candidate seems too retro. We need a really big candidate, like a sentient planet.

Agreed. I also hate seeing mostly bi-pedal aliens in crowd scenes, unless they are very inhuman in appearance. Personally, I'd like to see more outside-the-box type aliens like the Vorlons from Babylon 5 appear in the book more often. Good examples of existing DC universe aliens that I'd like to see appear more in crowd scenes are Proteans, those one-eyed, long-necked bi-peds that Giffen used to favour, persons from Dr. Gymll's race (whatever its called), and individuals from Berton Diib's race (y'know, the invulnerable alien from the defunct L.E.G.I.O.N. book).
Furthermore--with apologies to Brainy, Shady, and Kono (who I think are all great characters)--I'd prefer to see humans with unearthly coloring appear less frequently--especially in crowd scenes or as one-off background "extras." In particular, the arbitrary coloring changes to Plant Lad and Polar Boy rankles me to no end. Making them persons-of-color would have been fine, though. After all, why show dark pink, red, neon-orange, or azure-skinned people too frequently when relatively few persons-of-color from our own world today are ever depicted?

Agreed to a point. I rather see more black and asians than another generic blue nobody. If they go out of their way to say what planet the humanoid aliens are from I don't mind. I don't mind a large number of planets but the geek in me wants an encyclopedia! Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
