I can never remember this off the top of my head. Do we have an accurate idea of all the people who Grinn supposedly ‘killed’, aka pulling the plug on them, when he, the Subs and Universo’s men took control that Dominator underground laboratory? To be honest, I can’t even remember if we knew for sure if they were dead or not, or if some escaped and some remained Dominator test subjects.

We know the following ‘got out’: Crystal Kid, Catspaw, Dragonmage, Computo (Danielle)

I seem to recall Myg and Calamity King being imprisoned, but I don’t know for sure. Wasn’t Flynt (Legion’s biggest fan), also?

There was a (partial) list of people imprisoned. As I recall, a number of those were confirmed as surviving, but I'm not sure who offhand. I'm not sure anyone was confirmed as being killed, per se.

I didn't think so, but started to doubt myself when I was reminded that both Nightwing and Atmos (both 5YGap Legionnaries) were killed during TMK earlier. I was wondering if another 'Legionnaire' might have died then too. I kind of recall the list was a bunch of 'oh, that's where ___ has been' type characters that were absent thus far.

My guess is that most people who were listed as being imprisoned in the chambers survived, because the destruction wasn't as bad in that part. Of course, whether any of them survived the subsequent destruction of the Earth is anybody's guess.

IIRC, Atmos was killed when the Dominators tested BION's abilities on him. (Well, at least it was for a good cause...)

[Atmos]

My personal theory is that the Dominators conquered Earth, imprisoned all those people in the pods, conceived their grudge with the Legion and created B.I.O.N. just so they'd have an excuse to use B.I.O.N. to kill Atmos.

And it was worth it.

So, speaking of Grinn, do we actually see him kicked out of the aircraft?

As those who stalk my every movement should know, I've been re-reading these issues digitally, but, unless I just skipped over that scene, we're just told about it after it happens.

Strangely, however, I seem to remember seeing a panel in which Sade kicks him out. Am I just going space-happy?

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I think just space-happy. [Big Grin]

It's been a good five years since I read it but I think it basically happens between panels. But you see what happened right before too so that's prob why you remember thinking toy saw it.

Oh and since the original creation of this thread, I did reread and learned the answers. Unfortunately it's again been many years.

But also down there was:

Crocheta Drisden, Grimbor's daughter

Squire Burroughs (lives as seen issues layer)

Calamity King

Flynt Brojii

Myg

Possibly Echo???

One or two more I'm forgetting. At least one villain IIRC.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Not Echo, but the Polecat and Absorbancy Boy.

Give me a sec, and I'll check for more.

Absorbancy Boy ... [Hug] [Big Grin]

Okay, so, listed in v4, #27, we have:

Dafe Meron, Pungent Toxic Emissions (Polecat)
Wray Muntz, Reality Distortion (??)
Kirt Niedrich, Absorbs Residual Super-Energy (Absorbancy Boy)
Chi Tsan, Acidic Secretions (Caress, right?)
Leemac Allen, Deceased
Flynt Brojj, Sensory Enhancement and Deprivation
Squire Burroughs, Object Animation
Cocheta Disden, Hypnotic control of males (Charma II)
Myg, Sonic Emissions (Karate Kid II)
Mick Yardreigh, no abilities manifested

STATUS NO MIND WIPE

Shanen Dreys, Tremor Projections (Quake Kid)
Annie Foxmoor, Misfortune-Probability
Bobb Kohn, Crystal Projection and Transmutation (Crystal Kid)
Monica Sade, Teleportation

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Of those, Squire Burroughs, Cochetta Drisden, Bobb Kohn, and Rhent Ustin all turn up alive. Dirk survives though it aggravates his already deteriorating condition.

Nam'Lor? Nam'Lor not there. Nam'Lor alive.

Flex muscles. Yah!

A little internet research suggest D. Spengler Bonita and Wray Muntz were references to Legion fans.

Interesting--another Foxmoor connection! The greatest of all Legion mysteries deepens!

For the record, I've now officially decided that this chick is D. Spengler Bonita.

I hereby christen it CANON

I just micro'd her! Totally love the idea of that Academy student being this mysterious "D. Spengler Bonita," Eryk.

Now the new mystery becomes - what's the "D" stand for?

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Is it a name initial? Or a designation? The possibilities!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Oh, and per #33, Danielle Foccart "mentally defused the charge closest to the pods, and some of us survived". Since one of those was Crystal Kid, that pretty much leaves open any of the others mentioned above having survived.

Posted by Future on :

What if poor Annie Foxmoor's misfortune ability caused her pant leg to get stuck at the worst possible time? KABOOM.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Apparently Mick Yardreigh is Black Mace.

And Annie Foxmoor totes needs to meet E. Davis Ester.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

It's a match made in Ventura!

Posted by Future on :

Good luck on the potential romance, Ester. You'll both need it!

Also "Leemac Allen," who earlier in the series (v.4 #2) was listed as an "anti-Earthgov subversive".

I hope Shanen survived, as so many aliens both beautiful amd hideous would have gone unmacked upon otherwise.

I wonder if his super-being-deceased power helped him as a subversive?

Poor Leemac was probably just a victim of a "Brazil"-like clerical error.

"I swear I'm not related to those Tornado Twins!"

"Whatever, Allen... tell it to the diskheads."

I'm sure his super-deceased power helped him fleece Earthgov out of his monthly salary and benefits, and cheat in elections by voting multiple times!

Squire was supposed to be Wildfire's long lost brother or something, right? And they put him through the same process that turned Drake into living energy. His suit was orange and blue, and he dissipated at the end of the issue, right?

Tom Bierbaum's blog goes into a lot of detail as to nods to fans and old continuity.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Yeah, that's where I got the info from.

I've never actually read the Squire Burroughs story (though it should be released in the next week or two as a digital version). It's interesting that they went with "Randall" as Wildfire's brother in the threeboot, though.

Do you have a link?

It's Okay, I'm a Senator

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

So, confirmed as surviving in LSH #40:

Myg, Cochetta Drisden, Squire Burroughs, Holdur, Polecat, Absorbancy Boy, and Caress.

Squire blows his suit at the end of the battle, and disappears.

Our unearthed legend, D. Spengler Bonita, was also listed as an ally and contact of Shvaughn Erin per the initial v4 issues. I'd like to say that, since this list was populated with former Subs and Legion contacts, this backs our theory she represents the girl from the Legion Academy.

How odd... I seem to remember seeing a panel where that happens as well.

Perhaps our sheer hatred for Grinn has caused our subconscious minds to fantasize this panel!

In #32, Sade knocks him down when they're in the chambers and he says he set the pods to self-destruct. Maybe that's the image you remember.
