Hi All Here are the scans for the latest cover from it's concept thumbnail through to the inked version.
The pencils were very loose for this one as so much depended on very stark black and white areas for it's effect that spending a lot of time on details that would be obscured in the final version wasn't necessary
Hope you've enjoyed seeing the process again this month. Thanks as always to Nightcrawler for hosting the images!
Greatly enjoyed, as always, Barry. I love the black & white although this is one cover for which the colour really adds something, distinguishing between the two characters.
I keep looking at the first thumbnail and thinking that in itself would have made a very interesting cover, although not in the traditional Legion style. It has a dreamlike (or nightmarish) quality to it.

Look at all them teeth! My dentist would be in love
Cool stuff! I love the black and white. I know that alot of effects are managed with color and computers, but it's a true artist who can capture something like a bright lightning flare in a black and white picture.
Awesome!

I do usually try to give the colorists some idea of what I had in mind. In this case the different colored lightning was all Nathan's - I can't take any credit for that

Actually, I'm kinda disappointed at how the coloring washed out some of Barry's cool effects.
Barry put a lot of work into the cover to make both characters obviously have lightning powers and yet a few people who saw the colored version thought Garth switched powers.
What would Ronda do?

Yeah, the way it's colored, I don't see any lightning coming from Garth. It looks like fire with some spillover from Mekt. Before I read the solicitation, I thought he was standing next to Dirk, and the Dominators had switched their powers. With all the special effects coloring obscuring things a bit more, it still looks like it could be Dirk, except he cut his hair in 22.
Barry's original is much clearer and quite awesome.

Thanks - we figured the Dominators would have a kind of 'enforcer' elite bred for violence and hence these are a little bulkier and obviously brutal than your average Dominator...not that they are exactly cuddly
