Hi Guys No graemlins this post as I'm going to cram 8 images in!
This was an unusual cover as I wanted to capture the feel of the 'classic' Mon-el character without making anything confused that it might be an 'imaginary tale' or outside our ongoing continuity...which may well be why I ended up doing two verions!
As usual we started with a quick thumbnail
Steve Wacker our editor asked that I shift the layout to ensure Kara wasn't obscured by the logo so a new rough was done
and refined
I sketched out the figures
and then moved on to my first pencilled version
and inked it
but then I felt that I hadn't quite caught the feeling I wanted in the piece so began again and pencilled version 2
and inked that
which was the version used.
I think this is the first time I've actually drawn and inked two versions of a cover...and might well have done a third had time allowed!
I hoe you find the scans of interest! Thanks as always to Nightcrawler for hosting the images!

Thanks Barry!
Supergirl looks more evil or villianous in the first version. Maybe that's why you wanted it changed?
Either one makes a beautiful, striking, and shocking cover.

She's not as pretty in the first version! Supergirl should always be pretty, even when choking a guy.

I really like Mon-el's hairdo! It's *choke* so pretty!

Lar's head is smaller in comparison to Kara's in the second version, too. The change looses some dimensional effect while making SG more equal in importance, I think. She's also prettier! Shady

Wow. Barry, I love the evil on Supergirl's face in the first one. Like, whoa. But the second definitely has an elegance more befitting of the characters. Good show. Posted by Nick Vinson on :
Mon-El maintains his teenage glow in the second cover. The first cover makes him look like an adult. That and version A makes Supergirl looks like shes ready to shove Mon down a dark hole and make him rub the lotion on his skin.

The act of strangulation has never looked so.....gorgeous before.
Thanks again for another peek at the creative process, Barry!
