How would you re-imagine the leader of the Fatal Five for the modern era?

My suggestion: Take the Colossal Boy approach, and make him from a race of robotic beings who make heavy use of organic technology. Perhaps they could grow clones for the Dark Circle? Anyway, the beings are programmed with an absolute prohibition against harming one another, so that when one accidentally severely damages another one, they make a desperate attempt to repair their fellow. Lacking the resources to repair its circuitry, they attach a clone half to their comrade, which miracously, saves his life. The downside is that it also gives him the freedom to rebel against his programming, leading him to become an outcast among his people, and eventually a notorious villain.

Wow. That's cool. Hopefully, Waid is reading the board.

Would the "origin" recap take place on Zadron (if sticking to at least one scrap of the Tharok back story) because at least it would help hook the long-time fans back in rather than create an entirely new background - as Waid seems to be doing for characters like Star Boy and Colossal Boy.

Sure. Zadron can be a world of robotic beings on the edge of Dark Circle/U.P. space, where they grow bald clone guys for use in the Dark Circle Army!

The Zadronians could also have a cult which worships the malevolent entity known as the "Dark Man"

The "Dark Man" could be a ruse the Dark Circle use to control the Zadronians!

Great idea! Maybe the organics that Tharok's race use wouldn't be limited to humans, so Tharok's organic mind might include a different way of thinking (like a snake brain, but some more exotic, alien organic being). This would enable him to follow different logic or even program his robotic half in ways that neither his fellow robot-beings nor the humanoids of other planets could easily figure out. Tharok would be full of surprises, and none of them very nice.

I still like this idea!

Me too (I missed it the first time)!

Yes, yes... good stuff. My mind began to instantly wonder what they did with the other half of the clone! (cue creepy music...)

I'd have him steal and use the Computo Technolgy from Brainiac 5.

I already did in my After Zero Hour fanfic...link below.

I was actually referring to the re-imagining Thaorak, but I actually did do what you suggested as well in a way.

He really reveals himself in part 4...but Isuggest reading the whole thing for context. [Wink]
