So, after their initial appearance, I know Black Mace appeared one more time (was that in an Action backup, or right before the Legion officially joined Superboy in his title?). What were any other appearances by them?

Shagrek appeared in flashback during one of the early v4 issues, with Blok protecting the White Witch from him.

Hm...that's exactly what I'm looking for. I don't recall that one at all!

Oh, and Quanto was the villain in the v3 Invisible Kid flashback issue right before the Magic Wars.

I just reread all those issues where Takron-Galtos is consumed by anti-matter and the Legionnaires fight the inmates a few times, but I didn't think of checking for them. Off-hand, I don't remember seeing any of them there, just former LSVers and Organus.

[Black Mace] [Quanto] [Mystelor] [Shagrek] [Rogarth]

All first appeared in ADVENTURE COMICS #374 (NOV 1968).

Black Mace appeared again in the back-up in SUPERBOY #213 (DEC 1975 - my first Legion comic!) against Timber Wolf and LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES vol. 3 #31 (FEB 1987) in a flashback against Princess Projectra, Karate Kid, & Ferro Lad. He's also mentioned as being mind-wiped in the Dominion computer records in LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES vol. 4 #27 (MAR 1992) and almost escaped in LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES vol. 4 #40 (FEB 1993).

Quanto appeared only as a beam of light in the flashback to an Invisible Kid I/Chemical King adventure in LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES vol. 3 #59 (APR 1989).

Shagrek appears in a holo of Blok saving the White Witch in LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES vol. 4 #10 (AUG 1990) and as a trophy of Leland McCauley in LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES vol. 4 #39 (JAN 1993) and in LEGIONNAIRES #4 (JUL 1993).

(BTW, this is why continuity is fun to have. [Smile] )

Gary, I totally agree with you! This is *exactly* why continuity is fun!

And great recap of their past appearances! It was your new graemlins that got me thinking of them in the first place.

I remember rereading that Black Mace/Timberwolf story recently (I'm currently rereading the whole run), and thinking that they could have really used the Taurus Gang as recurring villains individually for these types of stories, but never really did. Too bad!

Yeah, the Taurus Gang would make great "workout for the Legionnaires" villains. Something to do in between the cosmic battles for the fate of the universe.

And I think those types of stories are always necessary, to give the readers a break. While the focus could be on what's happening with the hero, the action involving the Taurus Gang (and how an individual Legionnaire uses their unique powers to beat him/her) would a nice side bit.

Waid keeps hinting at all these various missions the team is going on. It would be nice to see Shagrek or someone show up in one these "that mission we just had on Anvar"-style flashbacks.

Hi Eryk...

Cant remember that issue - this would have followed the Emerald Empress/Evil Eye two-parter, yes?

Yeah, it's vol. 3 #59, as Nightcrawler mentions above.

Cheers, Eryk,

Might need your input on whether you thought any or all of the Taurus Gang were good enuff for an encore performance.

I didnt read any of the other postings coz i spotted the subject heading and being an old Legion fan from way back, jumped right in - i know i probably rehashed what was said earlier, but it was good of you to confirm this.

Thanks again, buddy

Oops - thanks also to Cobalt Kid and Nightcrawler for their input, too!!!
