Remember the DC/Marvel crossover stuff a few years ago?
I LOVED that! The Legion was SO much fun. The roll calls, the depictions of the different eras. So funny and well done.
I don't recall being part of any discussions about it. I'd love to make up for that!
I suppose I should dig the issue out and give more details, huh?

Hi sketch Lad, would be as interesting to compare the parallel between the Legion and Marvel's Imperial Guard team
Posted by MLLASH on :
Yes, let's please do this. I will haul out my issue and reread it today.
I seem to remember they had a Bouncing Boy parallel called "The Bouncing Ball" or something. It was funny...
Posted by MLLASH on :
Also I think the Dream Girl parallel was called "Dream Date". Okay gotta dig this issue out...
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
I'll have to do that too. I remember a Lightning Lad/Electro spoof, with the moniker 'Lectro.
And the TMK spoof was priceless!
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I don't think I ever got this cross-over. I remember picking up a bunch but the Spiderboy one was one I never could find.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Until I can find a real copy for my collection, an electronic one will have to do. Here is the splash page from the team-up issue, featuring the roll call:

Here's the second roll call page:

So nobody's had a go at identifying the Amalgamated heroes? My Marvel hero knowledge is a bit spotty but I'll give it a try...
PRE-BOOT LEGION OF GALACTIC GUARDIANS 2099 Vance Cosmic - Cosmic Boy // Vance Astro Martinex 5 - Brainiac 5 // Martinex ?? Living Lightning Lass - Lightning Lass // Living Lightning Sun Lord - Sun Boy // ?? Cannonfire - Wildfire // Cannonball Multiple Maid - Triplicate Girl // Multiple Man Growing Boy - Colossal Boy // Giant Man ?? Living Lightning Lad - Lightning Lad // Living Lightning Lady Bug - Shrinking Violet // Wasp Universe Boy - Ultra Boy ?? // ?? Dream Date - Dream Girl // ?? Molecule Lad - Element Lad // Molecule Man ?? Invisible Girl - Invisible Kid II // Invisible Woman Bouncing Ball - Bouncing Boy // Speedball Paste-Eater Pete - Matter-Eater Lad // Paste-Pot Pete ?? Fantastic Lad - Elastic Lad // Mister Fantastic Chameleon - Chameleon Kid // ?? Phantom Cat - Phantom Girl // Shadowcat Shadowstar - Shadow Lass // ?? Star Charlie - Star Boy // Charlie 27 ?? Timberwolf by Night - Timber Wolf // Werewolf by Night
POST-BOOT LEGION OF GALACTIC GUARDIANS 2099 Vance Cosmic - Cosmic Boy // Vance Astro Phantom Cat - Apparition // Shadowcat?? Psi Girl - Saturn Girl // Psylocke ?? Darkstar - ?? // ?? 'lectron - Live Wire // Electro Mass - Star Boy // ?? Sparkler - Spark // Dazzler Nucleus - Element Lad // ?? Universe Boy - Ultra Boy ?? // ?? Xcel - Xs // ?? Martinex 5 - Brainiac 5 // Martinex ?? Whoa! Lots of gaps in the Marvel side there... I like the way the writer took pains to make recognisable Pre- and Post-Boot versions. This was an absolutely excellent comic!
Edited to add: I forgot there was also: Spider-Boy - Superboy (Kon) // Spider-Man Spider-Boy 2099 - Mon-El // Spider-Man 2099

Sun Lord would be Sun Boy combined with Fire Lord (the Galactus herald).
Martinex 5 is Brainy and Martinex of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Posted by Reboot on :
Only three I can't pick out that you missed:
Martinex 5 - Brainiac 5 // Martinex ??
Yup
Growing Boy - Colossal Boy // Giant Man ??
I think that's It, the Living Colossuus, like the postboot version. Although I suppose the headgear contains a hint of Pym's late-TTA/original Avengers helmet
Paste-Eater Pete - Matter-Eater Lad // Paste-Pot Pete ??
Yup
Star Charlie - Star Boy // Charlie 27 ??
Yup
Phantom Cat - Apparition // Shadowcat??
Yup (although someone reversed the colour schemes for her & Phoentix in the postboot version for some reason)
Psi Girl - Saturn Girl // Psylocke ??
Yep. Both versions have Psylocke's purple hair, and the preboot version (based on her British body) has her butterfly power signature, while the postboot version is based on her Asian body
Sun Lord - Sun Boy // ??
Sun Boy/Firelord
Universe Boy - Ultra Boy ?? // ??
Ultra Boy/Captain Universe (although Captain Universe isn't a character, per se, rather a set of powers who bond with those who need them to do something really-universally-important for a while. Spider-Man's the first and best-known CU)
Dream Date - Dream Girl // ??
Dream Girl/Destiny (X-Men villain)
Shadowstar - Shadow Lass // ??
Shadow Lass/Starhawk
Darkstar - ?? // ??
Looks like a three-way amalgam between Umbra on the DC side and Darkstar & Storm on the Marvel (not unheard of - Dr Strangefate was a three-way between Dr Strange, Dr Fate and Professor X, for instance)
Mass - Star Boy // ??
Looks like Star Boy/Charlie 27 again (note the head - that's Charlie 27).
Nucleus - Element Lad // ??
Again, Element Lad/Molecule Man again. The MM lightning scars are a giveaway
Lady Bug - Shrinking Violet // ??
Violet/Wasp again. It's based on the Crossing Wasp.

Could Xcel be Xs and Cannonball?
Posted by Reboot on :
Makes about as much sense as any other, since Sam's blond & caucasian and goes really fast.
It's the costume colours that's bugging me - light blue & black doesn't really fit anyone on the Marvel side, Cannonball included (and, obviously, they're not XS' colours. The XS influence is all in the linework). Any other panels with XCel?
Got it - it's Aleta from the Guardians. She's a caucasian blonde, and light blue with a yellow star were her colours, like Starhawk, until the Valentino series when she changed to black & orange (which is how I think of her, ergo the slowness), then red & white at the very end.

Nope. That whole portion is only three pages and the only other panel with what appears to be her is a partial head shot with the collar visible. Looks exactly like the roll call pic.
And that Cham is bugging me. I know there is an organization or something in Marvel that uses a blank face for their costume. I just can't pull it out of my memory.
Posted by Reboot on :
DOH - Chameleon's merged with Chameleon, the Spidey villain. Too obvious
And see above - I realised that XS was merged with Aleta a couple of minutes after I posted and edited accordingly

Like you I remembered the black/orange Aleta and not the earlier costume.
Did Chameleon (Marvel) ever work for Hydra? I seem to have that image stuck in my mind, that mask in a kind of Hydra uniform.
Posted by Yellow Kid on :
That was the only one of the Amalgam titles I really cared very much about. I'd have to dig out the comic boxes to fnd it but it went into my stash of Legion parodies.
I distinctly remember their using a Time Cube and iirc there were quite a few other staples of LSH lore that were incorporated into the stories.
Oh yeah, Spiderboy 2099 was trapped in the Negative Zone and later freed by Martinex-5, right?

Love these amalgams...some of them are really inspired!
Paste Eater Pete! Bouncing Ball!
Posted by Ferro Man on :
I think Growing Boy was Gim crossed with Kang's minion the Growing Man. Being a lifeless golem type creature made great sense when he became the Living Colossus.

Roll call! I loved this issue. I always wanted to get a sketch by Ladronn of someone from the issue. I wish Marvel and DC would get over their hissy-fit and make more of these!
