Jeepers! Isn't that the same solicit we've had for, like, the past six issues?

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

True-- the editors are keeping things close to their vests with the LSH. I know I don't have the least idea what's in store for this book-- beyond the first 12 issues being relatively stand-alone and the fact that there won't be any 'old' villains for awhile.

But, DC fans, the rest of this month's solicits look *amazing*. Here's a link with a link to the May text solicits...

Are we seeing Cos's faction here?

Star Boy
Phantom Girl
Light Lass
Chameleon
Ultra Boy? (or is it Micro Lad?)
Princess Projectra
Karate Kid
Indistinct dark-haired female behind KK - Shadow Lass? (looks like her hairstyle)
Indistinct fair-haired male behind PP - Element Lad? (spikey blonde hair?)

The last two would really surprise me.

I love the colors personally. I love the cover as well. Reminds me of one of 1980s New Mutants funky covers. [Wink]

Looks like Cos is still ripping up walls.

That giant figure looks like Brainiac 5, looming large over the team with his back to Cosmic Boy.

D'oh. Of course. Not too keen of me to confuse Brainy with Star Boy.

Anyone else concerned that the interior art credit goes to Art Thibert only, not Barry? Hope he's doing okay.

Posted by Vee on :

I'm sorry to see that, Tromium. While adequate, Thibert's art just doesn't grab me the way Barry's does.

Looking at the larger version it does look more like Brainy in the background. A hint of green in the face and blonde hair. Here's a larger look:

Unfortunately this cover stresses the one sore point with me for the whole series. The colors. I really hope that this preview is just a "Not Ready for Prime Time" version. [No]

On a closer look, it seems that the male character between Projectra and Cham could be Star Boy instead of Karate Kid.

I would say that Phantom girl and light lass are on Brinys side

I'm thinking "art by Art Thibert" is more of a typo and he's just inking over Barry's pencils like always.

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Maybe not.

I don't mind if Barry needed some more breathing space.

Posted by Jorg-EM on :

Geez I've turned into a big Kitson fan. I've always been a Thibert (as an inker) fan since his "glory" days back in the 90s. I love inkers that add detail or maybe should i say doesn't obscure detailed pencils.

Add Perez into the mix down the road possibly? The devil will certainly be in the details with this trio!

So far Barry has been the star of this show if you go to any message board or reviews the art is the stand out! When it comes to detailed pencillers people collect just to get those handful of "money" panels each issue. I've always been like this with Perez...now I may be like this Barry.

Can any one find the line art for this cover? I'd like a hack at doing a color job on it.

Barry do you have a scan of it?

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

Barry usually provides us with the pencils and inks when he has the time. I'm sure he'll do the same with this issue when he can.

Hi all
Thanks for the concern and support - it is very much appreciated!

The crisis (if I dare use such a word) is thankfully behind me now and although I won't be pencilling all of #9 I am penciling and inking at least some of it! Then I'm back to fully pencilling every page from #10 onwards!
(Thanks again BTW for the VERY kind words about my work from everyone!) [Smile]

I'll get scans of the pencils and inks to Nightcrawler today - all being well they should be available here in almost no time!

That IS Starboy between Projectra and Cham. [Smile]

As promised ..and courtesy of Nightcrawler - the pencils and inks for the cover to #9 - hope you like them!

Interesting how that character isn't in the pencil version ... last minute recruit?

I think it's Shadow Lass, not Vi.

She's behind Star Boy.

From what I see in the inked version, it's Shrinking Violet, Phantom Girl, Light Lass, Brainiac 5, Cosmic Boy, Lone Wolf, Element Lad, Princess Projectra, Star Boy, Shadow Lass, & Chameleon.

Lone Wolf? thought it was Micro Lad. His hair resembles Micro Lad's....? oh well, my poor eyesight! if it's Lone Wolf, does that mean he will be rescued from Lemnos and Terra Firma?

Nope you may be right. It does look like Colossal Boy. I must just have Brin on the brain.

I met an artist at Heroescon 2005 that said he did some guest artist work on LoSH - if I remember correctly for issue #9! You guys don't really want to know about it though, do you? I got him to do a sketch for me too, but you probably don't want to see it so...

i wanna see it. PLEASE!!!!!! [Embarrassed]

Oh well okay if you want to know, check out the link below:
Legion Fill In Artist

I think this artist was talking about other fill in folks to come, but I didn't exactly catch who else was gonna be coming up...

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Thanks! After rereading "The Origin..." thread several times, maybe I should campaign to get Steve a shot at Barry's new Legionnaires.

Posted by Barry Kitson on :

Neat sketches!

Georges Jeanty's fill-in is the last one planned - hoepfully my 'real-life' will stay calmer now so that we won't be requiring any more. Hmmm - hope you consider that good news! [Smile]

But of course!

I have to say I enjoy the story more when you are the artist, rather than a fill in. Much of the subtle nuances that you add make the story complete. None of the fill in artists to date have had that level of depth.

Posted by Barry Kitson on :

Thanks!
I have to admit something of an unfair advantage over any fill-in artist as I'm part of the plotting process with Mark (and Steve) so I do get a chance to add some 'subtle' touches that an artist new to the book couldn't possibly know about. It's actually one of the best parts about being a regular artist on a book - knowing the characters so intimately because they're part of your life everyday!

Posted by Jorg-EM on :

Barry I think you shouldn't be as subtle. [Wink] You so far are the star of the show from every message board and review I read.

I remember at one point you started writing L.E.G.I.O.N. Have you considered maybe writing this full time after Mr. Waid is gone? I mean Waid is great but you seem to be a bit more "hip" being british and all. [Wink] But seriously any plans to write and rest the drawing hand in a few years?

SouthtownKid posted the link to a preview of this issue over at Todd's Calling for #8.

Hi Jorg-Em
Sorry for taking a while to respond - don't know why I missed your post!

Thanks about my writing - I get a lot of input with Mark and really enjoy working with him so I don't miss being a writer at all these days. I would like to do some more writing again sometime, but as long as Mark and I can work together on LSH - it's more than enough for me! My main ambition at the moment is just to stay well ahead of LSH schedules so I don't have to miss any more issues! [Smile]

barry, if you can't keep up drawing so many pages a month, why don't you guys at DC plan for the legion art something like what it's going on with green lantern?
on GL there are two huge artists at work drawing an arc each, so we have three issues by pacheco, then two by van sciver, then pacheco again and so on.
would it be so difficult for you to find a "regular fill-in artist" so you can breathe more? i understand that he would be disadvantaged since you're the co-writer of the series and he wouldn't, but... well, i'm sorry to say i didn't like very much the art of issue 8, and when i've seen the previews for issue 9 i was almost up to cry...
thank you in advance for your kind reply!

Jillikers! Is that our very own "Loser" making an appearance?

Posted by Hamz on :

Can we please keep the the colorist from issue #8?? The colors in that issue and the colors of the preview pages for # 9 are a huge improvement.

Definitely! Keep Sno-Cone on colors!

Posted by mechana on :

Hey, if you guys keep this up people are going to think I'm paying you or something. [Wink]

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Hey, the colors are sooo good, you can cancel my payment - I'll praise them for free! [Smile] [Wink] [Big Grin]

Posted by KidChaos on :

Very nice to see Sno-Cone will be doing the colors again on issue 9!

Now if only we could be treated with Sno-Cones colors with Barry's pencils! (though the fill in artist for #9 looks cool)

Something else I noticed from the preview pages (and forgive me if this has already been mentioned elsewhere) :

S
P
O
I
L
E
R

S
P
A
C
E

Garth is from Winath after all! yay!

Posted by Barry Kitson on :

I just saw the colors in #8 myself and I thought they looked great too!

As far as I know Sno-cone will have colored the pages I did in #9 and will be coloring all of #10 (maybe Mechana can confirm that) I'm excited to see how it looks too - and with any luck I should be getting to see proofs very soon! [Smile]
