So which name do you prefer? Shadow Lass or Umbra? If Umbra got too near Sun Boy, would she be burnt Umbra? Does Umbra use an umbrella? Is Shadow Lass involed in...less-than-honest activities? Does she moon-bathe to keep that blue coloration? and one stupid question: what is her favorite color?

I think Shadow Lass secretly rules both the Legion and the United Planets

If Shadow Lass married Star Boy she would be Tasmia Mallor Kallor.
*crickets chirping*
I'll get me coat.
(I like both code names! yay)

Maybe they could move to Lallor and become Thom and Tasmia Mallor Kallor of Lallor

Oh. That hurt.
I want to know if the Fatal Five story is ancient history. Did they take over TalokVIII a few years back and that's when Shady joined up or did it even happen at all? I'd be fine with a flashback but I'll bet Waid and Kitson will give us the whole story before Year-1 is out, she's too cool a character to be a cypher for long.

PRINCESS; Don't you know? By 31st century customs, she'd be Tasmia Thom Mallor Kallor of Lallor. She's too independent to settle for second spot. If you disagree, give me a haller, er, holler.

I like Umbra for some reason though I know it's not popular. Trust me I'm a fan of classic Shady but Umbra was way cool.
First off while I loved the precrisis Legion even by age 12 I was over the codenames...I can't begin to explain how Triplicate Girl or Matter Eater Lad sound like nails on a blackboard. So while I despised the ZH reboot I loved the names.
Why I think "Umbra" is cool.
I guess cause I speak spanish and some italian...I think of the word for shadow ombra (italian) sombra(spanish). But specially the Italian version makes me think of Umbria a dark mysterious Italian region.
"When we think of Umbria we think of the Italian word ombra. Shadow. One of Italy's smallest regions, Umbria lies in the shadow of its more illustrious neighbor, Tuscany. The many Umbrian hills and mountains cast long dark shadows over river valleys which are already darkened by lush chestnut groves and elm forests. This landlocked region's overwhelmingly medieval character harkens one back to the mysticism and mysteries of the Dark Ages. In so many ways, Umbria has lain in the shadows for centuries. The very identity of its original inhabitants, the Umbrians, is so clouded that we still have no clear understanding of the meaning of their name."
This region is somewhat obscure for various reasons whick make it quiet alien...has a corky gothic vibe.
All of these things I think make Shady cool as well...thus Umbra for me fit right away. An obscure dark magical medieval soceity???
Yes I am a dork. Umbra was cool darn it!!!

Coming on Feb. 30th: Shadow Lass I vs. Umbra vs. Shadow Lass II! Umbra: Who the sprock are you, hanging around that muscle-bound Mon-El? Shadow Lass I: Beg pardon? Are you talking to me? Umbra: That's right, you little twit! Why don't you put a shadow around you and KEEP IT THERE? Shadow Lass II: 'Lady' - and I use the term VERY loosely - y'know, you've got all the appeal of yesterday's coffee grounds. Sounds like you're a real b**tch. Why don't you go back to chasing cars? Umbra: Oh, tough talk! What a pair of losers! Shadow Lass I and II: It could be worse. We could be you!

The current version is pretty interesting, so far. She's got the edge of Umbra but may not be so indulgently angry.
She actually reminds me of Miss Misery in the Sleeper series - who is a beautiful, nasty, chain-smoking psycho - but here's hoping Shadow Lass is not quite that edgy.

Damn! This could be a VERY long wait!

Of course I love the preboot Shadow Lass for sentimental reasons, but the reboot Umbra was often the best thing about the team! She kicked ass and was, ironically, a bright spot of the reboot.
The new Shady? Oh, I'm digging her!

But what if their fortunes run dry, and they have to live in... squalor?

While I generally prefer the single-names to the -boy and -lass names, Shadow Lass was an okay one. Still like the name Umbra better, especially after having visited Umbria.

I don't know where I stand in terms of character, but visually speaking, the current version of Shadow Lass / Umbra is fantastic, obviously, my favourite one yet!
