That's what I'd like to see in the new series.

I second that. I always did like a little meat on my women.

It would make a lot of sense, if the new Legion is rebelling against the "utopian" sameness and perfection of their society - we did already see a billboard suggesting that people shouldn't be overweight.

Hey, i like women with curves as well. These skinny, anorexic chicks everyone seems to go for these days aren't to my taste. I could say something more about the lovin, but this is a clean board.

In general, I'd just like to see more variety of body types among the Legionnaires. Especially if we're returning them to their "club" roots, rather than this notion of them as the "best" and "brightest" their worlds have to offer (which might bias the team's membership towards certain conventional standards of appearance). Make them look more like a random selection of teenagers, all of whom just happen to have special powers.

A long time ago, I did a little sketch project where I gave all the girl Legionnaires very distinctive body types. Ayla and Nura were my larger sized girls. I think it makes a lot of sense if you have a flight ring and a super-power where you zap people, that you might not really have to have an ultra lean body.

Also, when I first read this topic, I thought of Vi. The short, pudgy version of her could still be very shy and quiet, but tough and buff. Maybe a fight would really tire her out, but she'd go for it 100%.

I don't know. I think making the girl who shrinks the short one would be a bit too obvious for my tastes.

Maybe Mysa would work well?

What I'd really like to see is a Legionnaire who is just plain unattractive. Not "alien-unattractive" like Hate-Face, Ferro or what have you, but a plain ol' regular joe/josephine who simply isn't that cute!

Posted by Faraway Lad on :

i always thought Chuck took that role Lash, but I agree, I would like to see some Legionnaires who are not that perfect. It could lead to some interesting conflict as the "good looking" Legionnaires get all the press and adoration whilst the less attractive ones feel ignored

Shouldn't some of these lads and lasses at least have serious cases of untreatable space acne?!? They ARE teenagers, for chrissakes!

I would even settle for characters who look realistically awkward, as many teenagers do.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Hopefully they cured acne by the 31st Century! Think of all the angst that would be solved that way--probably a few less wars!

Like Rhino once said: FEH TO FATAPHOBIA!

Shouldn't someone compile the "Sayings of Lil' Rhino?" We really should have enough quotes by now. It would be valuable for future generations.

Rhino is the Confucius of Legion World!

But even more faboo than ol' Confuci!

Bumped to go with Sketchie's distinct looks thread!

Posted by cleome on :

This might happen if they get Gilbert Hernandez or Alex Robinson to draw the book.

Otherwise, don't wait up. [snerk]

They actually did that in the Silver Age, and I thought exactly that.

The return of Monstress???

Lessee....

Imra could not become the 5FTSPKLL because she is the Legion blonde covergirl.

Tinya is an option. She could be maybe more punk than ghosty goth, change costumes, and be a more assertive, offense-oriented phantom.

Lu must remain less powerful but pretty. It's just her role.

Vi has been discussed as too obvious, but sometimes the obvious choice is the right choice.

Ayla is an option. Not my preference for her, but it could work.

Jecky is an option. I'd like to see her as a spoiled little over-indulged princess, who will kick nass if she doesn't get her way. On the other hand, if Jecky is not a lean platinum beauty, her fans tend to go nuts.

Dreamy is an option, but I'd rather see her as a 5FTSPKLL but take out th K (kicknass). I'd like to see her all sleepy and lazy and only willing to work in bed (ahem!). She'd have meals and desserts auto-delivered and holo her visions in to the Legionnaire on Mission Monitor Board duty.

Dawnstar is not really an option. She needs to stay lean for aerodynamics in space.

Shadow Lass is an option. But I'd rather see her as even taller than she is, and more muscular, more of a warrior. Not pudgy and short. Still, if she was pufgy and short, she'd be kinda cute!

I think that's it for prebbot!

I think Vi probably is the best choice of the pre-Crisis lasses.

Kinetix definitely has potential as well, however.

Gah! I'll be doing sketches of plain Jane short n squat Legion lasses now!

(Actually, I've had the idea of creating a thread at Bits called "The All Sketches Inspired by the LSH Board Threads." I had a funny sketch idea for the Brainy's crush on Superman thread, but I couldn't seem to follow through on Superman as an object of desire for Brainy. I guess that job will have to go to some other artist.

Anyway, one of my sketch ideas for this thread could be a 5 ft pudgy Tinya in bell bottoms asking, "Do these pants make me look fa---"

I like her, but I don't see "pretty" as her role. She'd be one of my first choices for out-of-shape.

I usually think of her as athletic, but I've tried thinking of her as softer and thicker, and it doesn't feel wrong at all. She's a lover of life, and that sort of character often overeats.

This is a problem with too many comic fans; it becomes most obvious in team books. Fans usually don't want to see their favorite character "weakened" in any way. However, a team doesn't have to be all "strong" characters. (They should all be strongly characterized, though.)

And she's who I was thinking of, because of the last time something like this came up. Not everyone has to be K.

What I said about Projectra reminds me: The Legion girls I'd more accept being out of shape are my favorite girls! I think I know why. I'm willing to do that because they're characters I like enough that I'd still like them just as much if they were less conventionally attractive.

I hate to gum up the works here, but there are athletic folks who are nonetheless not skinny. Alarming but true. [snerk] You can be short and/or fat and still participate in athletic activities without risking a heart attack every time you break into a sprint.

Just as you can be tall and/or skinny and sedentary and thus, below the surface, "out of shape."

Harrumph.

Trip, I was referring to the scene where
chuck was trying to make Lu feel better about her lack of heavy hitting power, by telling her that she's so pretty. I think that was in a late Adventure comic or an Action comic. Today, that would come across as more of an insult, I suppose. But, I do stand by my comment that Lu should remain a very attractive girl with a slim build and average height, with a concern about her power levels. I just think altering her into the 5FTSPKLL is not her.

cleome,
I totally agree with you about the fitness question. This short and stout Legion Lass must be a nasskicker. That's part of the challenge.

Ultimately, I think she must be a new character, not a re-imagining of beloved established ones.

Cant remember who drew it, but in the old comics, when Ayle was exposed as an "imposter" for Garth, she actually looked sloop-shouldered to me.

Wouldn't like to see it now, but thats what i thought back then.

I could totally see Tasmia as a cross between;
Aeryn Sun and K'ehleyr.

[Quick-thinking male Legionnaire cuts her off] "Fa-mous? Yes, they do!"
