Well it's no wonder they were evil & cranky...they were hungry! Blood sugar all out of space-whack and all that.

Is that scene supposed to be some weird parody of The Last Supper?

No kidding! Who got the thirty pieces of silver? [Confused]

It may just be my monitor but I swear The Big J is wearing an outfit that's orange on one side and purple on the other.

I'd never noticed the connection before. Good call, Eryk.

Waitresses please note: never kiss a grumpy hungry villain on fire.

Probably the third one in from the right.

Sun Emperor! You traitor!

Uhh, I don't want to get sacreligious here or anything, but I do wonder about the messianic aspirations of the central figure.

It's funny. I've thought there was something odd about that panel for ages, but never made the connection myself until Leapy posted it.

I think we might want to keep this a secret from Mekt, however. His position in this panel might just go to his head...

Uh, count again, Cramey.

I actually think Roy is in the "Judas" position. It would have been really interesting if they'd actually used that symbolism for something, though.

Wow, great connection EDE! Holy Moley! I never noticed it before!

And now for a quick Art History lesson that involves some of the conspiracy theories in the Da Vinci code!:

The figure directly on Jesus right (our left), when analyzed by a comptuer that allowed the image to be seen at a higher resolution reveals this: that figure is a girl!!!

What you ask? The figure to Jesus' right, as depicted by Leonardo Da Vinci, is actually Mary Magdeline! Da Vinci, along with 2000 years worth of scholars and kings, believed that Mary Magdeline was actually the wife of Jesus. Their children and descendents, the bloodline of Christ, is the true 'Holy Grail' written about in legends and protected by the Templars.

Da Vinci purposely depicted Mary Magdeline next to Jesus to show this, although he did it in a way that makes it hard to tell if it's really her, or John the Apostle.

In addition, there are a bunch of other crazy things in the picture, like a Peter holding a knife up to Mary's throat, and a third arm coming from somewhere...

Which makes it even crazier when you consider that Giffen made sure that the Mary Magdeline figure, when done as the LoSV, was a girl, Esper Lass.

Done on purpose? Well, Giffen is known for being well read and into that kind of stuff...

I think so! Esper Lass as Mary Magdeline in comparison to Mekt as Jesus?

Super Supper...of Space!

But you'll notice a wholly lack of Grell.

IIRC, Grell did a Last Supper type scene in the Ben Pares story.

You know... I'm *still* amazed at this!

As Picasso said, "Good artists copy; great artists steal."

Giffen, then, was thus somewhere between good and great. At least he didn't, it seems, use another damn photostat. Though I wouldn't put a tracing past him.

Anyway, the name boxes almost ruin the effect, wouldn't you agree?

I, for one, believe it's John. And here's an argument why:
Is that a man or a woman in The Last Supper?

I think having Esper Lass be the one in that position, though, is a cute nod to the controversy of the question. I also think it's interesting that in the position of Judas we have the sod babbling about serving the Dark Lord.

But I agree: let's not let Mekt get wind of this - his life sucked enough without him thinking he has to deal with the sins of others on top of his own.

Another parody - or was this from the Sistine Chapel of Space?

Is there some other painting that would correspond to Orion blasting Light Lass? I thought this might be two images combined.

Well, if you're gonna steal from somebody, make sure they've been dead for centuries and can't sue.
