Doesn't sound too great on paper, but I'll give it a shot

Hmm... hopefully there's more to these villains than the "dressing as 21st century heroes" schtick... I like the idea of the Legion facing more political terrorist types rather than the past couple of would-be universe conquerors, though...

at least the team are facing off against a group of SUPER VILLAINS !!! we haven't really seen any of these during DnA's run, apart from the 2 part FATAL FIVE story !!!

i miss the costumed villains ....

Matthew.

A few legionnaires left to hold the fort against chaos, assassination and super villains! We know Mekt likes to dress up...

But as a 21st century hero? Maybe...

I'm really looking forward to this. [Smile]

Adam Hughes cover!? I'm sold! Well okay so I was sold before that but now I'm solder.

Although it does sound like a fill in story. I remember when I first heard about Legion of the Damned. I felt the same way. And look how that turned out!

I will wait and see. I am excited to see costumed villains again...

Gail Simone? Adam Hughes? Dan Jurgens? An actual group of villains? I'm there!

Granted, I'd love to finally have an arc or story that didn't tie in some villain, costume, or mythos from the 21st century super-heroes...but I suppose that's asking too much with Superboy on the team now and those heroes being the Legion's inspiration and all. In any case, I'm sure Gail will put a delightful twist or connection on the villains' use of the old heroes costumes to hopefully subside my worry.

We got some crazy stuff happening, and the 21st century bit is kinda not what it may at first seem.

It's FUN!

Fun is good!

Thanks Gail. [Wink]

pretty like the Thunderbolts (from Marvel, no less) in 30th century. Nonetheless I will buy these issues anyway.

Okay - not sure what makes me think this, but am I the only one that thinks this guy -> - could be some kind of post-boot Nemesis Kid? [Cool]

Well, I guess the fact that the cover's up the top as one of those little picture deelies means I didn't really need all that spoiler space, but the question stands, I suppose...
Ahem.

Hooray for crooks in costumes! I also like the idea of returning to Metropolis for a story. Legion World is a useful storytelling tool, but I miss the wide open spaces.

Nemesis Kid wouldn't need a rifle with a scope. Can't actually imagine anyone in the 31st century using a rifle with a scope but if it's a LSV arc, perhaps Hunter?

I was just thinking that it could be the postboot Oli-3 Queen, but wouldn't he be using a bow and arrow?

Could be interesting if they were dressed as LATE 21st century heroes.

Well, he would need the rifle until he is attacked.

Recall, NK's power is almost purely defensive. He can adapt whatever power he needs to defeat any one foe. However, he can't adapt until he has something to adapt too. Until attacked, NK has no powers.

Of course, the blond perm and the green makes me think pre-boot Jan.

BTW, I did not notice anyone else commenting on this... does it seem odd that the villains are going after the President of the United States. I thought that there was no such political enitity in the Legion's time....

The solicitation said that the villains were going after the President of the United Planets... not States [Smile]

And no disrespect intended to any creator who might read this, but I hope that after this arc we start to distance ourselves from the 21st Century for a while. I mean, the lion's share of this run of the Legion has focused on modern day villains (Ra's, Darkseid, villains dressed as modern day, even Computo is kinda 21st Century now). I would like to see the Legion tangle with some strictly 31st Century adversaries for awhile.

Let the Legion build up their own Rogues Gallery again, rather than relying on 1,000 year old menaces.

But that could just be my opinion [Big Grin]

Well, I'll be goshed darned if that's not the oddest thing. They must've corrected it after I read it the first time.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but maybe the powers that be have decided that the only way to sell more "Legion" is to help the main stream comic buyers identify with them more buy giving them a deep 21st Century tie-in. We may not be looking at creators calling the shots here, but the bottom line may be dictating policy, so to speak.

I, for one, don't mind the 21st Century tie-ins. I'd read Legion without them too. I just want good stories told, and if they can do that with Batman joining The Legion, then I'm all for it. If they can do that without Batman, then I'm pretty OK with that too.

After reading Gail's other works, I'm convinced that she could put a flight ring and Legion belt on Scooby Doo, and find a way to make it interesting.

Having just read a few issues of BoP, I'm not convinced Gail is a good match for the Legion, but I'll keep my mouth shut until I've actually read the arc.

By "70s disaster" I was thinking massive earthquake or gigundo tidal wave or something like that. Now I understand why Gail couldn't find a role for Wildfire, one of her faves. Hardly a coincidence that the "handful of Legionnaires" she chose to feature in this arc includes no energy beings, or the story would be over in one issue.

Gail mentioned she wasn't interested in [re]writing a classic Legion story, so it's possible the villains will be entirely NEW characters. I agree with Spellbinder's sentiments above. It's a bit too soon to play the 21st century card again.

The only serious question here is: will Winema live or die?

Posted by Blockade Boy on :

Ooh Ooh, if Winema dies it will all be worth it! Die Die Winema Die you EVIL B. Die slowly, bring back the nine panel grid with a degree of death in each one.

If a phantom dies, is their ghost solid?

Posted by SiliconDream on :

Yep. Remember Jo holding Tinya's charred corpse?

I love Birds of Prey, so I am more than willing to give Gail the green light to amaze me. I do agree, though, that the Legion should have their own rogues gallery, instead of using baddies from the 21st century. I am quite weary of the rehashed villains. Maybe some of Shooter's villains could be reconstituted? He certainly created enough of them.

That's what I thought too - although I was recasting Nemesis Kid as a post-boot version that may or may not have his previous (hard-to-define) powers. I like the idea of Hart Druiter as Nemesis, deadliest assassin of the 30th Century.

(Or maybe I'm making waaaay to much of that blonde do and green garb. The 30thC Green Arrow might be a better call after all. [Wink] )

Don't give up on your idea so easily StarBoy. Did no one notice that the Legionnaire targeted in the scope is Val? Now, someone remind me...what happened the last time Val and Hart got together?

I think this could be a little clue as to who the blond guy in green might be.
