I treated myself to it today! This is my final Legion archive purchase. I'm thrilled to have it!

And it's a great one, huh!
The coloring (even on the corrected version) is a little off, but I don't care much.

1 and 10 are my favorites... 1 because it has what early appearances I don't actually have, and ten because of the "spotlight" effect of the collection of Dave's Legion work in a single volume. It might just be my favorite overall.

Makes you wonder if the person responsible for planning out the archives was a fan of Dave's work.

I've a sneaking suspicion # 10 will be my favorite also.
I knew there were some coloring issues, so I mentally prepped for that already. (on the cover ALONE, Garth, Ayla & Dirk's hair is wrong and U-boy's mint-green is BROWN!!!) But -I- -will- -deal-. Mine says FIRST CORRECTED PRINTING on the back.
Plus it features the dazzling debut of Drura!!!!!

And I have all week to fully immerse myself in it! Yay!!!!

I got Legion #1 to #12 and will continue to purchase more of them...and DCDirect too. So I can build my dream project - which is a bookcase only for the Legion merchandise...7-11 slurpee, all Archives (Legion will be on the second top shelf while the DCDirect will be on the top shelf for sure....and the rest of Archives (JLA, All-Stars, Atom, Plastic Man, etc) will be on the bottom shelf. Nice looking bookcase, I hope so!

The next archive I get (which may or may not ever happen) would be Dave's without a doubt. My copies of those issues are just about pulped from multiple readings although they are among the very few comics I own that I try to keep bagged. They're so yellowed, and in some cases the printing is very poor. I must see them in their restored state, flaws included.

IIRC, Volume 10 was the one that had poor repro quality. A lot of very splotchy heavy inks. Vol 1 has one or two pages like that, vol 4 or 5 too I think, but 10 was pretty bad throughout. DC issues a corrected volume and offered to replace the first print for customers who wished. That makes the first uncorrected volume something of a collector's item.... if you can read it.

I'm finished with the archive-- it's truly lovely and the pride of my archive collection. I was pleased to see the coloring issues were actually few and far-between.
DAMN, Cockrum drew a lovely Duo Damsel. She and Saturn Girl were the femme stars of HIS run, no doubt.
Now I am extremely tempted to go ahead and get ARCHIVE # 11 for the wonderful early Grell art, when he was closely imitating Cockrum.
What issues does Archive # 11 contain? If it contains S/LSH 212-- the intro of Calorie Queen-- I'll probably go ahead and make IT my final LSH archive purchase.
Cockrum's run ended with S/LSH # 203, so Archive 11 SHOULD contains S/LSH 212-- that would be 9 issues, from 204 to 212. And it contains S/LSH # 205, my first exposure to the Legion.

You must get 11 and 12. The disco legion.
I have all 12 legion archives, the flash, green lantern, aquaman, and doom patrol. What can I say, I was a Silver Age baby.

Yes, Archive 11 does contain Superboy 212.
"And you, Matter-Eater Lad, are useless ... You should be replaced by Calorie Queen!" - Calorie Queen
(I don't personally agree with the sentiment, you understand.

I have all the Legion Archive Editions. I don't know if anyone recalls, but I went off on a big fat hissy fit rant about the coloring mistakes they made. I exchanged several emails with the editor in charge, letting him know that Legion fans don't take this lightly. I made these errors known at the DC mbs. I was criticized by at least one vocal fan of the AE's, but was fairly well supported by others. Nowadays, when I look at my AE's I still get a bit distracted by the very very obvious coloring mistakes, but don't get as concerned about the minor ones. I'm happy to have the stories in this format.
I never exchanged my "bad" #10 edition in for a reprint. Maybe I'll look for one of them some time. Although the art was pretty messed up on a number of pages, it's still at least...legible...
I love those Cockrum stories because I found most of them WAAAAAYYYY out of sequence. It's cool to fill in those oh-so-large blanks. Dave's art was really lush, full of detail. It was obvious he was a sci-fi fan, because he made the Legion's ...stuff... look so sci-fi. The costuming was awesome, most of his designs stayed intact for YEARS following. He really amped up the action in his stories, too. Very dynamic.
