hmmm, like for instance -

Infectious Lass should be renamed as Outbreak?

Polar Boy ---> Iceberg

Night Girl ---> the Owl

Color Kid ----> the Hue

Is that what you're asking us for?

Umm.... let's not and pretend we did!

Not the Subs... the SUPER-COMPANIONS!

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

Maybe the Super Animal-Companions, that I could support.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Oh, yeah!!!

That team of all-gay superheroes who tried to convert Superboy!

That Storm Boy sure was cute...

Hey! In the 2995 Sourcebook, it is revealed that Storm Boy joined the Legion during the 5-Year Gap.

Since the other Storm Boy that was introduced in the early ADV. run didn't have actual powers, I must conclude that Super-Companion Storm Boy was the one who joined.

ANOTHER gay Legionnaire!

Posted by Comet King on :

Who are the Super Companions?

Posted by MLLASH on :

They were a group of super-homosexuals of space.

They appeared in ADVENTURE COMICS # 371, their only appearance.

The membership included:

The above-mentioned STORMBOY, who had the power to create rainstorms.

LIQUIDMAN, who had the sensing-shattering ability to turn into-- a puddle! Really!

TREE-MAN, whose bark was worse than his bite!

SHADOWMAN, a sissy-boy version of Phantom Girl.

TELEPATHY MAN, but, ummm... I can't remember what his powers were... *duh!*

Anyhoo, this gay space-sugar daddy with a giant bald head (from a world of folks with giant bald heads, apparently) decides he wants a super-sex harem so he forces these heroes from differnet worlds to join him. They even get Superboy to leave the Legion and join 'cause he was going through a brief bi-curious stage (Ultra Boy: "Superboy... have you gone space-happy?").

Eventually, the homo-heroes concoct a plan to escape the bald sugar-daddy dude, and Superboy, his curiosity satiated for the nonce, leaves the team.

Gay stuff in the story:

Page 1: chicken-meat STORMBOY is engaged in a rather passionate embrace with the decidedly older LIQUIDMAN.

Page 4: the above-referenced Ultra Boy quote referring to Superboy's decision to tiptoe through the tulips.

Page 6: In an attempt to create pathos, it is revealed that STORMBOY can be killed by a rainbow (forever banishing him from Pride Festivals galaxy-wide)

Page 12: "Look! Telepathy Man created wepons that shoot terrible balls of fire!"

Plus more stuff, but I don't wanna spoil the WHOLE thing...!

Telepathy Man-- Wouldn't be such a dumb name if the guy was actually telepathic!

Instead, he had super-telekinesis or something.

Super-GAY-telekinesis!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I think Tree Man was the gayest of the Super-Companions, with his power to grow extra limbs!

Posted by MLLASH on :

More gay stff in that story...

Stormboy, spoken like a true queen in a jealous rage: "The power of being ruler has given Superboy a swelled head!"

Superboy dons a nelly space-tiara for half of the story.

Superboy, explaining his bi-curiosity: "Smallville... is a nice place! The only thing that bothered me was an iquisitive girl, Lana Lang, who suspected my secret."

Posted by MLLASH on :

Hmmm... it occurs to me that the Super-Companions would be a swell place for the reboot Anti-Lad, the bald, butt-crack headed man-hating lesbian. But who would HER companion be...?

Posted by MLLASH on :

Not much love for the idea of bringing back the Super-Companions.

You're all a bunch of space-homophobes!

Or, more likely, you think Liquidman, Telepathy Man, etc. were lame characters.

I bet you'd buy the SUPER-COMPANIONS SPECIAL written by Grant Morrison and drawn by Jim Lee, though!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... there must be a way to de-lamify the Super-Companions, while keeping all of their super-gayness intact...

Posted by MLLASH on :

First of all, those lame codenames HAVE to go!

How 'bout...

Liquidman becomes SPLASH.

Stormboy becomes THUNDERSTORM.

Tree-Man becomes BOBB BARKER.

Telepathy Man becomes MZGRZZ THE MAGNIFICENT.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jeepers! You got to wonder how well-thought a concept this was with the guy who creates rainstorms and the guy who turns into a puddle on the same team. I mean... did they plan on drowning half the villains?

Posted by MLLASH on :

Hey! Instead of Splash, let's call Liquidman COCKTAIL. It's a liquid, after all, and sounds REAL gay!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Further lameness: okay, don't rainbows come about as a result of rain? And Stormboy's power is, what was it again, oh yeah... to make it rain! So basically, he causes his own weakness! Jeepers!

The other femme member of the Super-Companions MUST be... Rainbow Girl! [Rainbow Girl]

We'll just have to come up with some OTHER way to create pathos for Stormboy...

Who published "Companions Three?" I'm a Golden Age fanatic and I never heard of them.

Fawcett! Master Comics.

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Cool, then DC can bring them back. Maybe I should start a letter writing campaign.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Aren't there legal problems with DC's use of the non-Marvel Family Fawcett characters though? Which is why we never see Bulletman, Spy Smasher, etc. any more? So maybe Spike, Don, and Nifty are tied up in the same wrangling...

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

I thought that was settled. Many Non-Marvel Family Fawcett characters showed up in the DC Encyclopedia book. They also appeared in the POWER OF SHAZAM! series. Plus, isn't Bulletwoman one of the new Soldiers of Victory?

Never really pictured him riding a lightning bolt in his boxers though. Swinging from a vine maybe ...

Thoughts on 'rebooting' the Super-Companions (who first off, need another name, like Company of Heroes or something!);

Tree-Man – power upgrade to 'root' self and grow to enormous size, skin hard as wood, grow various alien fruits, flowers, pollens, thorns and nuts that do cool things, can also change the color of his leafy covering
New name: Hardwood, Timber, Undergrowth, Wildwood, Weald

Liquidman – no longer needs to drink his special elixir, and can change part of all of self solid or liquid as needed, including worn or carried objects (allowing him to grab a bad-guys gun and turn it to water in his hand). Established as a scientist, he builds freeze pellets and burn pellets that allow him to become ice or steam, can also use them as incendiraries or freeze grenades, later will invent shock pellets that allow him to shock people he splashes as well, and poison pellets that allow him to paralyze people
New name: Water, Aquatic, Aqueous, Limnal, Pluvial, Deluge, Serum, Splash, Hydrous, Torrent

Stormboy – needs no upgrade or development from the already cool power to create rainstorms and throw lightning
New names: Tempest, Thunderbolt, Weatherman, Downdraft, Climate, Atmosphere, Cloudburst, Furor, Blitzkrieg, Typhoon, Cyclone, Gale, Hurricane, Blizzard, Windstorm, Squall, Whiteout, Monsoon, Downpour, Deluge, Skyfire, Lightning Rod, Thunderstorm

Shadowman – Establish whether or not he can move fast in altered / intangible state, can become invisible and or can fly? Does he alter particles of things he passes through, making them fall apart (or possibly strengthening them, as he wishes, by 'possessing' an item and using his own self to reinforce their molecular bonds?)?
Dusk, Penumbra, Gloom, Umbra, Vestige, Occult, Shade, Sunset, Twilight, Aphotic, Atrementous, Caliginous, Crepulscular, Inky, Nebulous, Murk, Opaque, Stygian, Tenebrous, Midnight, Eclipse, Nightfall

Telepathy Man – Tulpa/thoughtform, able to generate any item that he can understand, which is mostly simple items, but can study up to create complicated things. Most creations are temporary. Later revealed (when he ‘dies’) that his body is a ‘telepathic projection’ and that the real Telepathy Man never leaves his home world, creating new thoughtforms to project his powers across the galaxy.
Cerebration, Cogitation, Cogito, Thought Lord,
Thoughtmaster, Tulpa, Thoughtform, Reverie, Trance, Daydreamer, Cognate

With names that aren't mock-bait, and powers more clearly established and refined (and, in Liquidman's case, augmented by further use of his scientific genius), the team could be salvagable and used quite seriously.

The silly crown-bestowing collector alien could have turned over a new leaf (or, another member of his species could have done so, to atone for her brother's misdeeds), and serve as their 'R.J. Brande' civilian handler type person, coordinating their actions and providing them a base of operations, etc. Where the first alien basically hornswaggled (and, in some cases, blackmailed!) them into coming to his world, the new contact could simply do her best to keep them coordinated, without imposing any sort of agenda on them. Their related worlds could be close enough together that they serve as a sort of 'local branch' superhero team, in that region, which would be far enough from UP central space as to benefit from having it's own local team for local emergencies, rather than having to call to Earth for Legion assistance and hope they aren't busy / get there in time.

A member of a whole team of characters, each modeled after one of the Seven Wonders of the 31st Century!

I'd read it!!!

Posted by Candle on :

Guys, they weren't really supposed to all be gay, were they?
All of them?
[LOL]
I made a comment on another thread, asking where the girls were, so I didn't get 'it'.
sorry

Puddle Guy was tuned into a female on Smallville and eventually killed by Doomsday (Tori Spelling, whom I was glad to see go.)
It was actually a pretty cool power the way it was shown there.

Shadowman's power is half of my superpower here on the role-playing boards (mixed with a little low level empathy.)
So, I don't think of it as a lame power, completely.

Tree Man reminds me of Ents from Lord of the Rings, so I like him, too.

Stormboy is great, except he should be able to fly, like Storm.

And I think that EDE is right about Telepathy Man, he's really Telekinesis Guy, which is a great power, really.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Yep, ALL of 'em... especially Superboy and his tiara...

Posted by Candle on :

Was that the reason that the scientist/kidnapper forced them to join him?
That part of the story was left out of Nightcrawler's pages.

Ah, but what if his power is to create solid projections from his imagination? Instead of telepathy or telekinesis, he's got a form of matter creation that's less common than either.

Posted by Candle on :

The matter used to create has to come from somewhere, either stored, converted, teleported, or rearranged (those are the only options that I can come up with at the moment, I'm sure there's more.}

They're more than projections, solid or not, if they stay around and function when he's not thinking about them or if he's not present.

Ya know what I mean?

God may be able to create something from nothing and form things from His thoughts, but anyone lesser is in the conversion business.
Paraphrasing - energy and matter are neither created or destroyed, they merely change states.

There might be special conditions recognized now, but they wouldn't be at the command of a guy who can be captured by Othar.
imo

Nonsense! Why, everyone knows that Storm Boy and his secret lover Shadowman entered the shadow dimensions, where time runs more slowly, in order to live a happy life together.

However, when the 30th century rolled around, they got into a tiff and Storm Boy exited in a Big Gay Huff! He went on to join the Legion briefly, before Shadowman followed him. They then kissed and made up, and when the Legion was disbanded anyway, they went back home.
