Someone else out there has to love the little fella so join me in appreciating the pinnacle of Silver Age greatness aka. Beppo the Super Monkey!

Origin:
Beppo the Super Monkey survived the destruction of Planet Krypton by stowing away in Superboy's rocket, another aspect of Superboy's origin which was sadly and needlessly removed with Byrne's Superman revision. [Frown]

Memorable Quotes
"Yeep! Me like her!" - (In reference to Saturn
Girl)

Interesting Bits of Beppo Trivia:
Beppo was never actually named Beppo. Beppo was in fact the name of an organ-grinder's monkey who Super-Monkey briefly impersonated in his first appearance.

On a side note, I always wondered why Beppo thought in dyslexic broken english while Comet, Streaky, Krypto and Proty all spoke in perfect English.

Crimes perpertrated against the little guy:
* Beppo made no appearance in Crisis on Infinite Earths an event which supposedly featured every DC character ever
* In recent years the Superman writers brought back Krpyto the Superdog but failed to do the same for his primate companion
* Beppo's role as the legion's monkey comic relief was made redundant by the excruciatingly lame Koko

[Evil]

Can anyone think of anything else?

Ah but wasn't Koko Braniacs monkey? Wouldn't have symmetry if Bebbo hung around Brainy.

Now that Koko has apparently gone the way of evil genious, maybe we can get that long awaited Bebbo vs. Koko galactic slugfest. Now compared to that Joker thing, this is crossover material!

Bebbo you are missed and needed.

I love Beppo and all the other Super-Pets! [Smile]

I'm especially fond of Beppo's amusing origin -- like the Kents wouldn't have noticed a MONKEY in lil' baby Kal-El's rocket? [Big Grin]

(And, come to think of it... what kind of father would have let a MONKEY climb into his baby's rocket on Krypton in the first place...?)

If the Brainy-Superboy rivalry continues once we get Supes back, could a Kono-Beppo rivalry be far behind?

Incidentally, did the Silver Age Kono and Beppo ever meet?

I don't see why not. Great idea guys!

Not that I know of and the only thing I can say to that is: Why the hell not? [Evil]

Wouldn't it have been great if the Superman writers had followed up the Krypto Space Canine Patrol story with Beppo joining the group's monkey counterparts the Space Primate Patrol! Instead of the Sirius star cluster thing being their the team symbol they SPP could use the Gorilla nebula!

Waitasec, the monkey stowed away in the rocket ship with Superbaby? And just what did Ma and Pa do when this Super Monkey climbed out? And who do yo think cleaned up the mess Beppo left behind? Ma or Pa?

btw, did you see "Beppo" in the Kingdom Come mini?

I wonder if Beppo and baby Kal threw feces at each other to kill time in the rocket?

Are you telling me Beppo's little red briefs were actually indestructable diapers ??

*The rest of the super-pets only wore capes while Beppo had a little super-outfit.

I think somebody on this thread asked me to post my Super Pets figurines when I got them done, but it looks like that conversation got deleted in the great message board crash a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, they are done now and the awesome Jo and Terri Sanning have graciously posted pictures of them on their fabulous Silver Age Legion site:

Hope you enjoy them.

Jim,

A most excellent job. In true Silver Age fashion, all I can say is *choke*

KoNo?? don't you mean KoKo? *confused*

Say, look at the bright side, at least Beppo made an appearance in Kingdom Come, alongside the Legion of Super Pets.

AND he got his own merchandise - Soft Toy ! I have it! look good in my office. That cute monkey!! Aww....
