Assuming the entire galaxy hasn't adopted the Mid-West Anchorman accent by 3003, what Earth accents would you associate with which Legionnaire?
I've just made Apparition speak White South African - didn't like their politics, but I do like the accent.
M'onel sounds British, upper crust.
I'll bet some of our British members could come up with more accurate accents from the UK, based on the different regions.
Gates has a Russian accent.
Sensor sounds Arabic. Shikari sounds East Indian.
Brainiac 5 - I'm usually inclined to give him the old Oxbridge sound, but this time I think I'll make him sound German.
And R.J. - Texas, of course!

Garth and Ayla would have an Oklahoma accent.

Someone should have that vocal reverb like the Visitors in V.

And maybe Imra would have a Bostonian/Kennedy accent.

Tellus?

Gates -- Scottish accent Jo -- pure Keanu "dude" accent Shikari -- Japanese accent Ayla and Garth -- definitely mid-west Brainiac -- upper class stiff British Timberwolf -- Irish (I may have been influenced by Colin Farell on that one) Tinya -- New England Triad -- New Zealand Cham -- North African

Oh yeah -- and WILDFIRE -- represen'n da boogie down! (that's the Bronx to y'all)
Posted by Fat Cramer on :
I'd give Chuck Taine a southern drawl. And Triad would sound Swedish.

Jo - Brooklyn
Kid Q II - Gullah
Kinetix - old southern
Mon-El - Kansas

Apparition talks with the kind of "faux-British 'cos were being all formal" accent that Princess Leia had in Star Wars
Gear is now Don Adams in my mind.
Darkseid has the voice he had on the Superfriends cartoon.

Please let this work, please let this work! (Ahem, I'm playing with Firebird.)
I think someone once suggested in a fanfic that Violet had an East European accent. I like that.
I keep thinnking of Brin as having a British Accent, but Irish works well, too.
Apparition might have an upper class Boston accent. (It would certainly suit her mother.)

Yay! I can still post.

FC has started some awesome threads!
And this is one of them...

Garth and Ayla- FARGO accent! Imra-the perfect American broadcaster accent Brainy- like a teen Dexter Jo-like Deniro (you talkin' ta me?) Winema and Tinya- Winema would be really annoying like the Nanny (Long Island style), but snotty, and Tinya's voice would be a refined version of the same. (Tinya would say to Jo, "Come 'ere yooo.")

I always imagined Jan and his fellow Trommites sounding Finnish, except I don't really know that Finnish sounds like.
Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :
Definitely some kind of Scandanavian accent for Jan!

I wonder if we'll have to be re-imagining the Legionnaires' accents come the New Year!

FC,
Great idea! It never occurred to me to think of accents! This would actually be a great way for Waid to differentiate the Legionnaires -- give them different colloquialisms, pronunciations and vocabulary sets. This is one of the best things about Fantastic Four (which Waid writes very well, IMO).
Brainy as Dexter is brilliant! (Although I somehow imagine Mr. Burns for Brainy, as well, mainly because my boss has a 12th-level intelligence and frequently lapses into Burns.)
Since I am fond of my adopted home town, I would love to see a Legionnaire with a Chicago accent/sensibility: a combination of plain-spokeness (not rudeness) and street-smarts, expressed in Dem/Dese/Dose. I think Cosmic Boy would be good candidate (magnetism = rust belt/poverty). It would be great if more Legionnaires were more working-class heroes rather than always so erudite.

I think Brainy would sound like the Niles Crane character from cheers.

What if they all had Monty Pythonesque bad Frainch Ac-soints?
Noiw go awey, or we shell taount you some more!

Good one! Yeah, what if?

Listening to Donovan's Season of the Witch (again), thinking how it reminds me of Mysa as the Black Witch, it occurred to me that Blok could have a voice like Donovan's - soft, Scottish accent.
I always fell into the cliché of hearing him in a low, rumbly voice, because his form is so substantial. A softer, higher voice would match his character.
