I've kind of wondered if you couldn't, with substantial retcons, have converted the postboot Legion into "Untold stories of the 5YG"...

If by "substantial retcons" you mean "complete rewrite", then yes.

This is what worries. Why even give us the WaK Legion if they were planning all along to give us the "real" Legion back? Unless they are not going to give us the "real" Legion back. Which would be the biggest mistake ever.
