Hm. Maybe that was the original name of the planet. It was founded by a monk whose name is lost to history. Over the centuries, the spelling was altered. It was even given an "X" to denote its Christian origins.

Or: "anthu" appears to mean "people", from this translation page on biblical text in Chichewa, a language of south-central Africa. (Also backed up with this translation page.) So the monk could have come from what is current day Malawi...
