I focus on the story and the characters first, so I'm often not even aware of who's drawing a story.
Call me old fashioned, but I think that's the way it should be. Creators (writers as well as artists) should "disappear" into the story being told.

Seriously, though, if you take out the Forte, Swan, Mortimer stories, doesn't that just leave the handful of tales drawn by Jim Mooney? At least if were only counting Adv. 300-380?

With Eryk's help, I think I've made an ugly realization about myself... I don't like Jim Mooney's artwork.
I *hate* not liking an artist's work... I've always thought myself very liberal in re: to artwork... but if it's ADV 300-380 and it ain't drawn by Forte, Swan or Mortimer... Feh!

Great Krypton! I suggest massively indulging yourself in the awesomeness of the Supergirl Archives to cure yourself of your strange aversion to Jim Mooney!

Jim Mooney was great on the Supergirl ACTION stuff... his ADV work on the Dynamo Boy issues, on the other hand... The art looked too sketchy (sorry, Dean! ) I wonder if he worked with a different inker?

Somewhere in the Library of Unpublished Books-- the comics wing-- there's a hundred or so issues of Neal Adams illustrated Adventure tales to go along with the handful of covers he drew towards the end of the Legion's run.
I was *so* disappointed about the interior not matching the cover when I bought a back issue with an Adams cover, featuring the Tornado Twins, I think.
Not that the art inside was bad, by any means. But, it weren't Adams...

Mooney drew THE cutest Lyle. The last page of that Legion origin story where he breaks the 4th wall? Divoone! or was that drawn by Costanza?

I don't think Jim Mooney drew the best futuristic settings, but he's a real pro and some of his Supergirl work is just magnificent. I believe his Legion work was mostly emergency fill-in stuff, as was the inking of his pencils (rushed and not the best). I still enjoyed the Dynamo Boy/LSV issues.
Imagine having to do the Legion art - as a rush job! Artists back then thought the Legion was a lot of work anyway.

Mooney drew such a little pansy/snarky Dynamo Boy that I still get all a-titter with delight when I read about the LoSV double-crossing him! I love when villains I like betray villains I don't like!

Jeepers! Reread your Action Comics with Legion backups. I'm not a Bob Brown fan but I loved the story about the super powered androids that were powered by Superboy and Mon-el!
Ok, so that's not quite Adventure era but those transition stories between Adventure and first Cockrum issues are really groovy.
