Seems the worlds of the Legion has had an expansion since the 90's. We've seen super types from other worlds that a) aren't interested in being Legionnaires, b)are criminals and can't be Legionnaires d) possess the same power as an already existing Legionnaire or c) already belong to another group and won't switch.

In the first boot there weren't many, The Wanderers, The Fatal Five, The Heroes of Lallor, The Devil's Dozen, the LSV, The Subs and probably just a very few others (that escape my memory just now).

The reboot, the 3boot and the Johnsboot have seen an explosion of supers contemporary to the Legion, The Workforce, The Oversight Watch, Earthman's Justice League, UP Young Heroes, The Amazors (reboot Heroes of Lallor), Terror Firma and very likely a few more that I'm forgetting... and there may or may not be a few Green Lanterns depending on which writer/editor you ask or which boot you feel is "canon".

Who do you like? Someone you hate? Someone you love? Do you see a potential that the rest of us are missing somewhere? Is there a hero or villain group in the 31st Century that you really think ought to try out their own feature?

I was a big fan of The Oversight Watch, less because I liked the characters than because I really liked the concept. I saw potential in a quasi-military unit under the direct command of the President of the UP. The possibilities are wide open for expansion and crossover. Maybe I wouldn't have liked them so much if we hadn't been introduced to them with Valor as a member but that one little fact sparked an affection for the little rag tag group of wannabes that I still enjoy.
I really liked the idea of the equivalent of a 31st C. Suicide Squad working their hearts out to do good and rebuild their names as good guys.
It's not their fault the Prez turned out to be a crazy thousand year old fiend with delusions of godhood. They were just in it for the paycheck and an ass kickin' from the LSH wasn't in their contract.

Now that you point out the concept, I see that UPYH is essentially sort of a klutzy version of Oversight Watch.

The problem with these secondary teams, for me, is that there haven't been any characters who could carry a series, as they stand now - that's not to say that they couldn't be developed.

Oversight Watch, Workforce and the Amazors had some appeal because they contained known characters - the best of whom folded back into the Legion. The other characters weren't really developed much as personalities.

The criminal groups might provide more interest, à la Secret Six. Terror Firma was pretty thin personality wise and Earthman's Justice League are just too rotten to enjoy as a series.

I thought the Wanderers had potential, especially with Mekt leading and White Witch and Jeyra as members. They were in some degree of limbo, ethics-wise, which would allow them to do both good and evil deeds and would provide a mix of motivations and personalities.

I hadn't really given a lot of thought to the modern Wanderers but you make a good argument for them. I could totally go for a one-shot or mini with the group as it currently stands.

I'd love to see Mekt "fighting the good fight" and your point about their questionable ethics could make for some good drama.

Mekt Ranzz, for one.

Folding in some aspects of earlier Mekt, who was redeemed by the end and living a quiet life with his new 'brother,' and a Wanderers group could be pretty cool. The threeboot Mekt wasn't nearly to this point, although he too could have gotten there through good plot development.

This has all been thrown away in the Action Legion pretend-original-Legion, as Mekt is completely psychotic again, but hey, what's 30 years of character development...

Several of the Heroes of Lallor really interested me. Duplicate Boy was too powerful, IMO, to be really useful, but Gas Girl, Life Lass and Evolvo had really neat powers.

In the threeboot Wanderers, I wouldn't have minded seeing more of the healer who gave Lyle a new alien arm, or the telekinetic who was briefly shown, although I was less impressed by the Micro Lass, Plant Lad, etc. obvious clones of pre-existing characters. I think Waid was better with his original characters, like Theena and Jeyra Entin, than with his knock-offs.

But my absolute favorite group that I'd like to see more of, bar none, would be the Legion Academy recruits; Nightwind, Lamprey, Laurel Kent, Crystal Kid and Power Boy. (Not so much Power Boy, but he's one of the original Academy crew, and a good writer could make him cooler, I'm sure.)
